No matter what’s going on behind the scenes, and it’s hard to even know at this point, the fact remains that the James Wan-produced “Swamp Thing” is headed to the DC Universe streaming service on May 31st, with ten episodes airing as part of the debut season. We were treated to the first teaser trailer last week, and this week brings some new promo images.

Thanks to Twitter’s @UberKryptonian, who removed the text from one of those meme-style marketing images, we’ve got our best look yet at Derek Mears as the titular “Swamp Thing”!

Join the DC Universe today with a 7-day free trial.

Mears stars alongside Jennifer BealsVirginia Madsen, Ian ZieringWill Patton, Andy BeanCrystal Reed, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott and Maria Sten. Directors include E.L. Katz and Len Wiseman.

“Swamp Thing” centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Reed). When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

Ziering will play Daniel Cassidy, also known as Blue Devil.  Durand stars as Jason Woodrue, the brilliant but abrasive scientist who longtime fans of DC Comics also know as the transmogrified super-villain called Floronic Man.

The series, based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, is written by “Ash vs. Evil Dead” writer Mark Verheiden and IT co-writer Gary Dauberman.

The series aiming to be scary and rated “R” violent, primarily based on Alan Moore’s run. It will also feature a practical creature suit, which Mears will be donning.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Last week we learned that Steve Buscemi had joined the cast of “Wednesday” Season 2 at Netflix, and Variety lets us know that Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”) has also signed on.

Jenna Ortega is back as Wednesday Addams in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” with Steve Buscemi playing the new principal of Nevermore Academy.

Jenna Ortega stars in the hit series as Wednesday Addams, with Luis Guzmán playing Gomez and Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Morticia in Tim Burton’s Netflix series. Christina Ricci also appears in the show, playing a brand new role, with Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester.

“Wednesday” is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.” The series follows…

“Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.”

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (“Smallville”) are the writers and showrunners, with Tim Burton executive producing and directing several episodes of the show’s debut season.

We don’t know much about “Wednesday” Season 2 at the moment but Jenna Ortega has promised that the new season will be “bolder” and darker than the first season of the series.

“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more,” Ortega said last year.
