DC Universe’s short-lived “Swamp Thing” got something of a second chance when the show’s one and only season premiered on The CW this past October, at least in the sense that it was able to find a new/larger audience. But is there any chance The CW will be reviving “Swamp Thing” in an official capacity, and ordering up a fresh new second season?

That seems unlikely, we’ve sadly learned this week. In a chat with Deadline, The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz suggested a revival probably won’t be happening.

Deadline reports, “Pedowitz revealed that Swamp Thing is unlikely to return to The CW but hinted that the DC Comics character may have a small chance of returning to the network in another form. Pedowitz said that the show performed well digitally for The CW Seed and was happy that it aired it, but would like to focus on shows such as Wonder Girl, Naomi or Painkiller.” As for Swamp Thing’s return in another form, that too seems unlikely.

“It’d be interesting to have Swamp Thing on Legends of Tomorrow, that would be a fun way to do it, but I’m not sure that would happen,” Pedowitz explained to the site.

Crystal Reed, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Ian Ziering, Will Patton, Andy Bean, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott and Maria Sten starred in the series.

Swamp Thing himself was played by Derek Mears (Predators, Friday the 13th).

When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

The series, based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, was written by “Ash vs. Evil Dead” writer Mark Verheiden and IT co-writer Gary Dauberman.
