Every movie from the present was in some way inspired by a movie from the past, and Trey Edward Shults’ contained thriller It Comes at Night is no exception.
Released last weekend by A24, the film is a tense, stripped to the bone take on the post-apocalypse, starring Joel Edgerton as a man determined to do whatever it takes to keep his family safe from, well, what’s killing everyone outside.
So which horror movies inspired Shults to make It Comes at Night? Shults himself revealed the four main ones in a featurette video that you can check out below!
In the film…
“Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge.
Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within him as he learns that the protection of his family comes at the cost of his soul.”
Riley Keough, Carmen Ejogo, Christopher Abbot, and Kelvin Harrison, Jr. star.
