‘Upgrade’ Director Leigh Whannell’s Top 5 80’s Sci-Fi Movie Deaths // #1. ‘Scanners’ [Exclusive]

SAW and Insidious co-creator Leigh Whannell returns to the director’s chair with BH Tilt’s Upgrade, a new sci-fi horror thriller that stars Prometheus‘ Logan Marshall-Green as a man who is upgraded to become the ultimate killing machine. The film is promised to be ultra-violent and give heavy homage to classic sci-fi horror films from RoboCop to Hardware.

To celebrate today’s release, Bloody Disgusting is excited to present Whannell’s “Top 5 80’s Sci-Fi Movie Deaths”, which concludes today with a look back at David Cronenberg‘s Scanners (1981)!

“The best thing about this death is it happens like five minutes into the film,” Whannell explained. “That’s a way to open a movie.”

#5. Aliens | #4. Total Recall | #3. The Thing | #2. RoboCop | #1. Scanners

Upgrade centers on Grey Trace, a technophobe in a utopian near-future when computers control nearly everything – from cars to crime-surveillance – who is paralyzed in a freak mugging.  But when a billionaire technologist offers him an experimental paralysis cure – an implanted computer chip called STEM – Grey finds that the chip has a voice and a mind of its own.”

Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus, Snowden, The Invitation) headlines the film as Grey Trace and is joined by Betty Gabriel (Get Out, Purge: Election Year)Harrison Gilbertson(Picnic at Hanging Rock, Hounds of Love)Simon Maiden (The Dressmaker, Killer Elite) and Benedict Hardie (Hacksaw Ridge, The Light Between Two Oceans).

Meredith reviewed Upgrade for Bloody Disgusting out of the World premiere and called it “breathtakingly violent.”
