Horror Nights ’09: Corey Feldman & Jamison Newlander Talk ‘Lost Boys: The Thirst’!

One of the big surprises at this past Friday’s Chiller Eyegore Awards in Hollywood, CA was the surprise appearance by both Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander, who will both return side-by-side as the Frog brothers in Warner Premiere’s Lost Boys: The Thirst, the third film in the revitalized vampire franchise. While on the red carpet before the opening of this year’s incredible Halloween Horror Nights at the Universal Studios in Hollywood, we caught up with both Feldman and Newlander who chatted about the forthcoming direct-to-disc sequel that begins filming next month in South Africa.
In LOST BOYS: THE THIRST, when veteran vampire hunter Edgar Frog (Feldman) finds himself destitute and almost friendless, he thinks his live has hit bottom – but wealthy vampire-romance novelist Gwen Liebling offers him a small fortune to go on the vampire hunt of a lifetime and rescue her son Peter from the Alpha Vampire D.J.Dusk. With the help of his friends Zoe, Lars and Blake, Edgar heads into a bloody battle to exterminate evil.

They’re the ones with all of the inside information,” Feldman jokes when introduced to Bloody Disgusting. We kick of the brief conversation by asking Feldman, who is standing next to returning Frog brother Jamison Newlander, if he’ll have any creative control now that he’s executive producing.

Let’s no get carries way,” Feldman laughs, “My influence will definitely be there, I don’t want to take more credit than I should because at the end of the day it’s a creative process and there are many people that work together as a team that work together to try and make the best product possible. But, what I’ve been doing is really been listening to what the fans want,” he adds, “I’ve had my fingers on the pulse of it if you will. Number one, more than anything, what they want to see is this guy (points to Jamison Newlander) back in action.

In talking to the fans, I see fans from around the country, but they wanna see the Frog brothers,” Newlander says with a huge smile. “I’m excited to be back!

It’s the return of the Frog brothers officially, we can say that, and I can tell you that we are definitely amping up everything including the storyline,” Feldman continues talking about really giving the third film some juice. “That’s a very important piece of it. Last time, people liked the second film, but they didn’t LOVE it. For us what’s really important is that the fans get everything they want out of this situation. We want there to be more scares certainly – we may have missed the mark on the scare-o-meter last time around – more comedy, because I kinda wasn’t funny, and basically the music is there…Truth Movement is lending some music this time around, which is really exciting for me, hopefully the fans will enjoy that too. I think that it’ll be more riveting, with more vampires, more blood, more hot chicks, more scares and more Jamison Newlander for Gods sake!

Shooting is slated to begin November in South Africa.

Shudder’s ‘Hellcat’ Exclusive Trailer Traps an Infected Hostage in a Race Against Time

Hellcat trailer exclusive

A gnarly infection threatens to claw its way out of a moving camper in the first trailer for Shudder’s claustrophobic Hellcat.

The feature debut of writer/editor/director Brock Bodell, who previously edited the Fantasia title Ultrasound, makes its debut on Shudder on August 14.

In Hellcat,Lena wakes up in a moving camper trailer with a horrifying wound. She’s warned by the driver that they have one hour to get to a doctor, or she’ll succumb to an unimaginably awful fate. As the pain sets in and reality begins to fray, who should really be afraid?

Dakota Gorman (Natural Disasters) leads the cast that also includes Todd Terry (Breaking Bad), Liz Atwater (The Other People), Jordan Mullins (The Bikeriders), and James Austin Johnson (Saturday Night Live) in a voice role. Bodell also produces alongside Andrew Duensing and Nate Eggert.

Hellcat made its world premiere last summer at Fantasia. I wrote in my review,Hellcat is a bit of a Trojan horror that defies easy classification, by design. Bodell’s sneaky debut feature is occasionally too sparse in its worldbuilding in its bid to preserve the mystery, but not enough to detract from the thrilling road thriller that transforms into a completely left-field type of horror we don’t get nearly enough of. The stripped-down tribute to a classic horror staple catches you off guard in more ways than one, marking Bodell as one to watch.

In other words, there’s a lot more than meets the eye to Hellcat‘s simple infection setup, delivering plenty of surprises along its bumpy road of horrors.

Check out the trailer and poster below and add Hellcat to your watchlists asap.
