Threshold Entertainment Lands Fatality on Warners, ‘Mortal Kombat’ Lawsuit Filed
A few weeks back we broke the news that Warner Brtos. Pictures was moving forward on a remake of Mortal Kombat with Oren Uziel (who saw his Shimmer Lake screenplay made the 2009 black list) in talks to write. It looks like Threshold Entertainment just landed a fatality on Warner Bros. as they’ve opened a suit alleging breach of contract over development. You can read more about this below.

“The suit was filed Tuesday in state court in Los Angeles, accusing Warners of “failing to cooperate and respond to Threshold and seeking to cut out Threshold.”
Reps for Warner Bros. had no comment.
It’s the third “Kombat” suit filed by Threshold over “Mortal Kombat,” according to Threshold attorney Peter C. Bierne. The first two actions were filed in 2008 and 2009 against Warner and subsidiary New Line over accounting from the first “Mortal Kombat” film, released in 1995.
The latest suit asserts that Threshold has a property ownership of a third “Kombat” pic, due to agreements it made with Midway Games.
Warner Bros. picked up most of Midway Games’ assets in bankruptcy court last year for the fire-sale price of $33 million, giving the studio rights to “Mortal Kombat,” “Spy Hunter,” “Joust” and several other game franchises.”
Based on Midway’s popular 1992 video game, the franchise follows the best fighters from around the globe who are summoned to an island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will determine the fate of the entire planet.
This really blows ’cause it would have been cool to see a bloody R-rated version of the fight game on the big screen. Maybe they’ll work it out? Shyeah right, you know how long these things take.
The killer tomatoes are back in Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, and the offiical poster for the brand new movie has been unleashed tonight.
Additionally, we’ve learned that the film’s theatrical release is set for this August, with a panel set for San Diego Comic-Con this month featuring the world premiere of the trailer.

The film features an ensemble cast led by franchise icon John Astin (The Addams Family), reprising his role as Professor Gangreen, comedy legend David Koechner (Anchorman), Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), horror favorite Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), comedy veteran Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Myrna Velasco (Star Wars Resistance), Vernée Watson (Shrinking, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), and Paul Bates (Coming to America).
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes launched in 1979, followed by 1988’s Return of the Killer Tomatoes, 1991’s Killer Tomatoes Strike Back, and 1992’s Killer Tomatoes Eat France.
The franchise also spawned an animated series in 1990.
