‘Juan of the Dead’ Shambles Into the U.S.
Focus Features’ digital distribution initiative, Focus World, has added Cuban zombie comedy Juan of the Dead (review) to its U.S. release slate.
A festival favorite that world premiered in September at Toronto, “‘Juan’ turns on a 40-year-old slacker who, when a zombie outbreak hits Cuba, turns a quick buck slaying families’ shambling undead.”
Critics have been quick to see “Juan” as political allegory. If it really says anything about Cuba, it is its inhabitants’ knack of making ends meet, according to director Alejandro Brugues.
Focus World premieres titles across video-on-demand and electronic sell-thru platforms, including cable/satellite providers, iTunes, Xbox 360, Playstation and YouTube.
After making $230 million at the worldwide box office, this year’s franchise reboot Scary Movie is now headed home to Digital, and a brand new Extended Cut is coming with it!

This new cut promises “Extended scenes and alternate cuts.”

We don’t know too much about Scary Movie: Extended Cut at this time, but we did recently hear that additional Terrifier spoof footage was one thing left on the cutting room floor.
Fedor Steer’s appearance as Artie Claus is brief in Scary Movie, but he noted in an Instagram post that more footage was shot for the Terrifier 3 spoof scene. Steer explained, “Sadly, the scene where I cut off [the mall Santa’s] arms and head and twirl in the fountain of blood spewing from his neck didn’t make the movie. Just trust me when I tell you it was awesome!”
We also know that a bit featuring Smile parody Ghostface masks was cut from the film.
Scary Movie is listed for DVD and Blu-ray release on September 22, 2026.
