Top Cow Relaunches ‘Cyber Force’ For Free With A Little Kickstart

Published

on

Mark Silvestri, one of Image Comics founding fathers, is looking to reboot “Cyber Force”, the original series he broke away from Marvel to create twenty years ago, and he needs your help. Silvestri has plans to reboot the series as a new five issue mini-series that will free across comic shops and digitally through Comixology. In order to fund the project Silvestri is looking to raise $75,000 via the crowdsourcing site Kickstarter.

The series will be co-written by Mark Silvestri and Top Cow publisher Matt Hawkins with art by Khoi Pham, who previously worked on “X-Men”, “The Avengers” and “X-Factor” for Marvel.

The KickStarter rewards being offered for this project are pretty amazing with Top Cow offering original sketches ($500), a one-on-one one hour art lesson with Silvestri ($1,000) or you can achieve comic book immortality by having character in the book named after you (2,500). The rewards for those that pledge are endless, but if you don’t have a huge bankroll you can always get the best bang for your buck with an exclusive hardcover edition of the series, as well as each of the five KickStarter variant covers for a mere $50 pledge. Don’t get left behind or you will be stuck bidding on the variant covers on Ebay for big money after this this gets published.

In a recent interview with the LA Times Marc Silvestri said:

“While most everybody uses Kickstarter to fund a project in order to build it and then sell it, we at Top Cow are going to use the funds to build “Cyber Force” and give it away — for free! Plus we’re not talking just one issue but five full issues of the comic. And it won’t be free just digitally, but also as a full-color printed comic that will be available at any participating comic shop. So for people that want to read “Cyber Force” digitally — yes, including torrent sites — it’s free. And for anyone wanting to hold a traditional comic in their hands to read it — it’s still free. We figure this is a great way to reward loyal comic fans plus get new people to get onboard reading comics and see what they’ve been missing. Plus it allows fans to actually get involved in the comic making process and be part of something truly groundbreaking that will help all of us that love the genre. ”Cyber Force” obviously holds a special spot in my heart, so I’ll be doing all the concept art and working very closely with artist Khoi Pham. Plus I’ll be writing the book along with Top Cow President Matt Hawkins. I’m really excited and proud of what we’ve done with the stories and characters and believe that fans both old and new are gonna love all the surprises.”

The project currently sits at $10,229 raised of their $75,000 goal. Those interested in contributing to the funding of the project can do so online.

‘Curse of the Where Wolf’ Bites Into August Release With Trio of Werewolf Theatrical Screenings [Exclusive Preview]

Curse of the Where Wolf

Larry Chaney‘s hairy misadventures are continuing in the sequel graphic novel Curse of the Where Wolf from creative team Rob SaucedoDebora Lancianese, and Jack Morelli, and its author is celebrating with a trio of horror’s greatest werewolf films.

The Curse of the Where Wolf hits shelves on August 7 from Encyclopocalypse Publications.

That coincides with the launch of a theatrical screening event in Houston, Texas, featuring a trio of seminal werewolf flicks turning 45 this year: The Howling on August 7, Wolfen on August 14, and An American Werewolf in London on August 21.

Each screening features a “werewolf in film” presentation as well as a book signing from Where Wolf author and River Oaks Theatre artistic director Rob Saucedo.

In the new graphic novel, “Being a werewolf sucks. Reporter Larry Chaney wanted to be a hero. Instead, he became a werewolf. Now, caught between incredible new powers and a desire to eat everything (and everyone) in sight, Larry must find a cure for his curse. Or die trying.”

“With Where Wolf, I wanted to tell a whodunit set in a furry convention, so the story was pretty contained within a very specific setting and genre. With Curse of the Where Wolf, I wanted to celebrate everything I love about the possibility of comic books. Curse of the Where Wolf is a funny book, in every sense of the phrase, but it’s also an earnest look at a person’s struggle to become a better version of themselves, especially when the alternative is to become a literal monster,” Saucedo says of Curse.

The original graphic novel was previously serialized as the first webcomic hosted on Fangoria before being collected by Encyclopocalypse Publications in 2023 and has already been optioned for film, podcast, and television development ahead of launch by producers James Fino (“The Freak Brothers” for Tubi, “Rick and Morty” for Adult Swim) and Charles Horak (First Date for Magnolia Pictures).

Expect Larry to find himself in even weirder situations in the 362-page full color sequel; Saucedo has provided Bloody Disgusting with exclusive art pages from the upcoming graphic novel that showcase lupine humor.
