TV: A&E Bringing Rosario Dawson’s “Occult Crimes Taskforce” Back From The Dead

Published

on

Back in September of 2006, Dimension was developing O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce, an Image Comics series that launched in July of that year. That comic was co-created by Rosario Dawson and David Atchison, and it was always designed as a star vehicle for her.

But time changes things. Obviously that iteration of Occult Crimes Taskforce never happened but, proving that there’s hope for even the most tortured of development projects, now it appears as though A&E and “Walking Dead” producer Gale Anne Hurd may have come to the rescue.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, “Rosario Dawson is teaming with The Walking Dead’s Gale Anne Hurd to bring her graphic novel to A&E with both women attached as executive producers. The scripted drama, an increasingly appealing genre for the cable network, will explore the inner workings of the task force, which was established after the Civil War to make the New York City streets safe from practitioners of black magic, demons from another dimension and all manner of supernatural malcontents.

The show “will center on the character of Sophia Ortiz, a new member of the bureau who uses magic, spells, ghosts, the undead and the unnatural. At the heart of the story is an ongoing struggle between the O.C.T. detectives and an organized demon-force attempting to take over Manhattan.

This concept sounds like it may actually be better suited to television than film, I could actually see it taking off as a variation on the standard police procedural formula.

Adam Wingard’s ‘Onslaught’ Receives ‘R’ Rating for Strong Bloody Violence and Sexual Material

Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) is getting back to his roots with the A24 movie Onslaught, and the film has received an ‘R’ rating from the MPA this week.

Releasing in theaters on September 4, Adam Wingard’s Onslaught is Rated ‘R’ for “Strong bloody violence, some gore, sexual material/nudity, and language.”

Watch the previously released Onslaught trailer below.

The duo behind The Guest, director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, are re-teaming for the upcoming Onslaught, which stars Adria Arjona in the leading role.

Here’s the synopsis: “When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.”

Rebecca Hall (The Night House, Godzilla x Kong) and Dan Stevens (The Guest) also star in Adam Wingard’s upcoming new movie Onslaught alongside Michael Biehn, Reginald VelJohnsonEric WareheimDrew Starkey, and Alex “Poatan” Pereira

Wingard has spent the past several years making Hollywood blockbusters including Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the idea behind Onslaught is to get back to his filmmaking roots. Onslaught looks very much in line with Wingard’s fan favorite The Guest, so much so that fans have been speculating that it’s set in the very same universe.

Dan Stevens starred alongside Maika Monroe in 2014 action-thriller The Guest. He played a mysterious ex-soldier with a secret agenda who wreaks havoc on a small town.

At the very least, The Guest and Onslaught look to be cut from the same cloth.

And yes, Dan Stevens is in both of them!
