Director Kimberly Peirce On The New Ending Of ‘Carrie’!
Sony Screen Gems’ Carrie stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the title character along with Julianne Moore as her overprotective mother Margaret. Obviously quite a few things remain intact from Brian De Palma’s 1976 version of the film, but producer Kevin Misher and director Kimberly Peirce have also been vocal about the fact that they are, first and foremost, basing their adaptation on Stephen King’s book – which had some key differences.
In the new, “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of Carrie earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

Per Spinoff Online, Peirce spoke with De Palma about changing the ending of the film. “Well, Brian said to me, “So what are you gonna do about that end?” And I was like, “Brian, I know you revolutionized cinema …” [laughs] Of course it’s on my mind! I’m not blind to the brilliance of his movie, but I’m also not blind to the fact that I can’t go down a road that he’s done. You have to be mindful. And I just don’t think you have to try to duplicate something that is so unique and so brilliant and revolutionized cinema. I mean, maybe I should be bolder and do it, but I think I’m a little too wise to. So I think you do something different, I think you just make sure your movie is what it is and that it fires on all cylinders as much as you can. And if you find yourself in a situation where you can top it, do it. But you probably won’t.”
Since this film is based more on the book, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the scope will be bigger. Heck, we even see what could be the aftermath in last month’s teaser trailer…
The killer tomatoes are back in Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, and the offiical poster for the brand new movie has been unleashed tonight.
Additionally, we’ve learned that the film’s theatrical release is set for this August, with a panel set for San Diego Comic-Con this month featuring the world premiere of the trailer.

The film features an ensemble cast led by franchise icon John Astin (The Addams Family), reprising his role as Professor Gangreen, comedy legend David Koechner (Anchorman), Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), horror favorite Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), comedy veteran Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Myrna Velasco (Star Wars Resistance), Vernée Watson (Shrinking, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), and Paul Bates (Coming to America).
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes launched in 1979, followed by 1988’s Return of the Killer Tomatoes, 1991’s Killer Tomatoes Strike Back, and 1992’s Killer Tomatoes Eat France.
The franchise also spawned an animated series in 1990.
