Do We Really Want Another ‘Zombieland,’ Anyways?
I’m a huge fan of Ruben Fleischer‘s 2009 surprise hit Zombieland, yet, after a few years to dwell on it, I don’t think I really care if they make a sequel anymore.
In an interview with Collider to talk Gangster Squad, now in theaters, Fleischer had this moderately shocking update: “I hate to do it, but I can say that there’s no immediate plans to make the movie. There’s no script, really, so the likelihood of it happening is slim. But I would not wanna put a nail in that coffin.”
After years of updates, and even casting news, it’s sort of a mind-boggling revelation that there’s no script. And at this point, I’m not even sure there’s a franchise to build on. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be the first in line to see a sequel, I just don’t really care if one ever gets made…
In addition, he goes on to explain that they took a single pass at the script and it didn’t excite the studio nor the filmmaker, yet he doesn’t close the door on directing once again. At least he did offer a taste of the plot: “It was a continuation of the original story with the same characters. I guess the only thing I could really say is that the threat to our heroes wasn’t only zombies, like they encounter other people that they’re all jockeying for positions.”

Keanu Reeves Describes Untitled Time Loop Thriller from Director Tim Miller as ‘Groundhog Day’ With Sharks
At one point known as Shiver, Tim Miller‘s (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate) next movie doesn’t yet have a title, but star Keanu Reeves offers a very intriguing tease this week.
Chatting with Collider, Reeves explains what drew him to the mysterious upcoming project from director Tim Miller. He tells the outlet, “Sharks. Time machine. Groundhog Day.”
That lines up with early plot details that surfaced earlier this year, with the film said to center on a “smuggler in the middle of a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea.”
That synopsis continued, “Surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries, and bloodthirsty sharks, the man finds himself in a time loop and scrambling to break the cycle.”
Callie Cooke (“The Stranger”), Stefan Kapičić (Deadpool), Steven Waddington (Sleepy Hollow), Nicholas Duvernay (“The White Lotus”), Abraham Popoola (Cruella), Anastasia Safonov, and Bobby Holland Hanton (Thor: Love and Thunder) also star.
Ian Shorr (Splinter, Infinite) penned the screenplay for the sci-fi thriller, which had previously been described as having shades of Edge of Tomorrow and The Shallows.
Stay tuned for more on the untitled Warner Bros. project.
