There’s a whole lot going on in the world of Hellboy right now, despite Guillermo del Toro’s hotly-anticipated third film being scrubbed from existence. For starters, The Descent director Neill Marshall is directing brand new, rated R film Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, which will star David Harbour (“Stranger Things”) as the title character.
The new film was co-written by Mike Mignola, who also announced his return to the world of Hellboy comics this week. In a chat with Nerdist, Mignola revealed that he’s written three brand new Hellboy universe titles for Dark Horse: Rasputin: The Voice of the Dragon, Koshchei the Deathless and Hellboy: Krampusnacht.
The first two will be 5-issue series’, while Hellboy: Krampusnacht will be a one-shot holiday comic book. Artist Adam Hughes is working with Mignola on the latter.
“This grim little Christmas story has been gathering dust for years on my mental shelf, apparently just waiting for the right artist to come along and ask to draw it,” said Mignola. “I just never imagined that the right artist would be Adam Hughes!”
Check out a sneak peek of Hellboy’s crossover with Krampus below, which will “pit Hellboy against this Satanic spin on Santa“. It’s due out December 20th.
