‘Grizzly’ Trailer Takes a Bite Outta Thornton (Exclusive)!

What was once known as Red Machine and Endangered is now entitled Grizzly. Penned by Jack Reher and directed by Saw V‘s David Hackl, the film stars James Marsden, Thomas Jane, Billy Bob Thornton, Piper Perabo, Scott Glenn, Adam Beach, Michaela McManus and Kelly Curran. Now we’ve come across the trailer (thanks to Marsha for the tip)!

The pic centers around two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) who reconcile on a camping trip with their girlfriends. Once in the remote wilderness, however, things go horribly awry when they are attacked and relentlessly stalked by a horrifying grizzly bear — the Red Machine.

Hopefully Open Road will update us with release info soon. Head below for the trailer. All I’ll say is that there are NEVER enough killer bear movies.

Looks pretty good! I’ll be keeping an eye on this. I loved the original title- Red Machine, even “Endangered” has a bit of flare to it, but the new title “Grizzly” is sort of generic.

  • J Jett

i agree! this is looking good! PROPHECY (1979) is still my favorite killer bear movie (albeit a mutant killer bear!) though. 🙂

  • Anthony Gulino

Not liking the name change… Naming this film “GRIZZLY” would be like if the had taken the film “Deep Blue Sea” and named it “JAWS”… I’m not saying that Jaws and Grizzly are in the same ballpark but Grizzly starring Andrew Pine and Christopher George is a cult classic to a lot of people however hokey the film is..Red Machine was a great title anyways, not sure why they abandoned that one …

    • Khy

Agreed Red Machine was a fantastic title

      • J Jett

i agree guys. RED MACHINE was an awesome name.

It’s like that movie “The Possession”. It was originally titled “Bibbuk Box”, which was mysterious and alluring. You see that title and think “WTF does THAT mean?” and you get interested. Then they probably did what studios do and got the world’s dumbest people to be in focus groups and ended up changing the title to the incredibly generic “The Possession”, which could have been one of like, 20 movies in the cinemas that year, so that mass audiences wouldn’t be confused by a word they may not be able to pronounce.
So probably with this, focus groups that didn’t pay attention to the movie left notes like “Why’s it called ‘Red Machine’? The bear isn’t red! That doesn’t make sense!” so the studio was like “Okay, how about ‘Grizzly’?”

Same thing happened with “300: Rise of an Empire”. That title doesn’t even make sense, because it’s not about the 300 Spartans and at no point in the movie does an empire rise, but the studio thought the original title of “Xerxes” might sound too “exotic” to the casual movie-goer (despite that being the name of the main antagonist in the incredibly popular and successful previous movie), and they wanted to convey, in no uncertain terms, that it was indeed a sequel to “300”.

Hey J.Jett just curious and obviously you dont have to answer but your screen name is that a nod to Joan Jett aka Joan Larkin??? Just curious as i met her and some of the original Blackhearts back in 82 and then again in 84… Anywayz sorry if im imposing but I have a tremendous amount of respect for Joanie and Its always nice when she is recognized however small….

  • Blood-Sicles

With so many cheap horror movies hitting theaters recently, it’s nice to see one with some production value again! I have to agree, “Grizzly” sounds like the cheap Asylum rip-off of this movie. The Red Machine title was ten times better.

  • Marco Arizpe

I could have sworn this movie already existed.

  • Wasn’t Red Machine the nickname of thebear that killed Timothy Treadwell?

    • Kagutaba

      No, that was the ‘Grinch.’

  • peter gildersleve

is it a remake of the 70’s film grizzly?

  • Ravinus

    Great cast IMO. Can’t wait.

  • A Killer bear movie starring Thornton and Marsden?? I’m in.

  • Jonathan Larsson

Grizzly is definably a better title. Red Machine and Endangered? It just doesn’t go well on the market.

  • Lucca Cantisano

My only worry are the visual effects, which in a movie like this could go from “good” to “atrocious” in a frame.

  • Fantasma George

I dunno man, The Edge had Anthony Hopkins and Bart The Bear. I’m just not sure how even Thornton can top that.

    • JB

Bart is the bear in this as well.

      • Fantasma George

        Man really?

I thought that bear died decades ago.

        • JB

My bad, just checked and it was Bart II.

  • Samuel Pullen

Looks great, but the trailer looks like it gives a lot away.

  • ThunderDragoon

This actually looks pretty good. I was expecting Syfy cheese. Glad to see people taking this seriously.

  • Jay Myers

Red Machine was a much better title, but if they wanted to go with Grizzly, they should’ve spelled it Grisly. Nice word play, and would fit well.

  • Finally, we’re getting the first trailer for this one. Looks ok to me.

  • REC03

this looked great….until the shot of the bear. lol. what the hell i’ll watch it though. looks like old school fun!

  • Tigernan Quinn

    So, jump scares then.

    • wikig1itch

I see nothing wrong with jump scares as long as they are well implemented into the film, but it’s the false jump scares (like a cat that jumps out of nowhere) that annoy me though.

  • James

Should have stuck with Red Machine

  • dman99999

awesome ive actually been waiting for somebody do something similar to “the edge” again i really enjoyed “the grey” too dont get much scarrier then being hunted by man eating animals that will rip you apart in seconds

  • brewers_rule

Seeing actors in a movie like this reminds me of how it’s just utterly “impossible” to get ones to agree to do a movie like MIB3 which took forever or Ghostbusters 3 that never happened because of their hubris. Scott Glenn’s been a grizzled, awesome actor for years. Jane’s the freakin’ Punisher. Thornton’s highly respected. And Marsden and Perabo are good additions. But, as I said before, cue the animal activists’ outrage when this one arrives.

  • AM

    this looks amazing.

  • pacman68

  • TCM66633

This looks pretty good. Better than I expected.

  • JB

Just watched this. It wasn’t too terrible except for some crappy cgi at the end and apparently no one could aim a gun properly. It was pretty gory too, which was nice. I’d give it 3/5.
