‘Amityville’ Was Delayed Because… (Exclusive)

Some bummer news hit a week ago, announcing the delay of TWC-Dimension’s Amityville, which was to hit theaters this coming January.

Now, we’re being told one of the potential reasons behind the push.

A source who wishes to remain anonymous explains that the studio held two separate screenings for Amityville: The Awakening (this I have confirmed), and the feedback was overwhelemingly positive.

The main issue audiences had with the Franck Khalfoun-directed sequel was with the ending, resulting in the Weinstein execs to order re-shoots. In additional to some additional photography (to spruce up the movie), the effects work was falling behind. The delay gives more time for post work, such as the VFX.

Lastly, the reason for the indefinite delay is that star Cameron Monaghan is in the middle of shooting the new season of “Shameless”, and his schedule is unclear.

Our multiple sources tell us that the plan is to finish everything after the November holiday and aim for a mid/late summer 2015 release.

In the film, “Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

It stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann and Jennifer Morrison.

Sounds hard to believe this is the reason why….they should just admit they don’t have a clear and professional way to manage movie releases unless they’re academy awards favorites

      pablitonizer, EXACTLY! well said.

Whatever. One of the few upcoming horror films I was actually excited about. Now it’ll come out in the summer and probably be ignored with all the big summer blockbusters hitting next year. Big mistake.

Positive??? Didn’t see that coming. This movie looked like a cliche piece of shit. And if they are changing the ending let it be an ending where everyone dies I hate happy endings. I might see it on netflix though.

  • If they need to fix things in the movie then that’s fine. Hopefully they make it better. More importantly to me is why the fuck was Demonic pulled off schedule, too? I was more excited for that one so I’d like to know why we’re not getting it this year and why we have yet to receive a new release date for it.

The Weinsteins strike again. Any changes they order is guaranteed to make a film worse not better. I can’t wait to see how badly they fudge up this movie.

Big mistake. If people had positive things to say about it, release the damn movie when it was scheduled! Now it’s going to be a piece of crap. Great job.

Hopefully they don’t kill the ending because of some dumb fuck screeners.

1408 had a killer ending until the director arrogantly chose to put HIS preferred ending on the dvd/blu ray releases which ruins the entire film, the one that test audiences didn’t like. So it’s possible the test screeners know what they’re talking about.

        works both ways i guess.

@pablitonizer What about the films delay doesn’t make any sense? The feedback from the screenings were positive, although it seems some didn’t like the ending. Another thing, if the FX are not complete and need to be worked on, as well as the main star not available for additional photography at this time, why not hold off for a bit and allow time to make the needed improvements? It all makes sense to me.
