First off sharks scare the hell outta me. Its just something about a giant fish with razor sharp teeth. But anyways this movie is a classic and it freaks me out every time I watch it. I love pretty much everything about this movie because its one of the few movies out there that actually scares me. If you havent seen this then you have a problem.
This my first favorite movie EVER. It got me intersted in sharks. This movie will make you find out why sharks are the perfact killing machines. Theres also a jaws video game and its awsome.
Classic, you got to love a huge shark eattin people!
TWO THUMBS UP
Best Fishing Movie Ever!
Do I really need to explain…?
Put simply…I don’t like the Ocean anymore…
Not just one of the best horror films of all time, one of THE best films of all time.
This movie is a classic. Nothing short of a masterpiece. Baste on the best selling author peter benchley. This movie made everyone scared of the water. With an oscar worthy performance, superb directing, fantastic story. This movie is great. If you haven’t seen this movie. I urge you to see it. Actually don’t walk to pick up this gem actually run. Once you see this baby you won’t want to put it down. My favorite movie of all time…
My second fave movie of all time behind Halloween. Classic masterpiece . There is nothing else to say
The pinnacle of cinematic bliss. My all-time favorite flick. Robert Shaw steals the show, from his offer to kill the beast, to his epic, grisly demise. Quint is my favorite movie character of all-time. He’s also the inspiration for my site name “Quint’s Machete”. A timeless masterpiece!!!
Good movie.
perfect movie, i have all 4 in the series. the shark view is great. i still have to snuggle someone on my couch, and keep my feet on it, cause it so scary you can think the sharks in your living room, waiting…..
……..
i love this movie!! it’s very scary, and makes you scared of the ocean!!
easily has one of the most recognizable soundtracks ever, sooo classic that even though i hate sharks i love this movie…hell yeah jaws!
a must have, i have all 4.
How can you not love this movie.
Feels pointless to review the classics. What else can I say that hasn’t already been said?
It’s brilliant, it’s terrifying. It’s the best movie about a killer animal period. Cept maybe Harry and the Hendersons… that was a joke.
when i first saw jaws it was at my friends house,in 3rd grade my friend fast forward 2 all the bloody parts.then i went on 2 see the others.they should make jaws 5. without jaws i would never have/or wanted 2 see a scary movie ever
amazing classic…remake, anyone? lol
I literally have not swam in the ocean since 1975.
Easily one of the best films ever made. If you don’t hear John Williams score in your head whenever you’re in the water then you’ve obviously somehow missed this, what are you waiting for?
its a great classic
The best blockbuster ever made!! It is extremely amazing, Terrifying and intense. Its just awesome!!!
absolutely terryfying in every way imaginable.
Still unrelenting to this day.
a powerful experience that needs to be watched with the lights on. This movie freaked me out so much that i couldnt swim in my own pool without checking it first and even then i was still pretty scared when i was in it. no horror fan should call themself a horror fan without experiencing one of the scariest and most vicious creature feature ever made.
Sweet jesus. You’ll never swim in the sea the same way again. Jaws is a new type of terror, horror and gore. Jaws, directed by master of thrills Steven Speilberg, is a new wave (get it?) of terror. The unexpected public, swimming in the sea are devoured one by one, by this massive shark, Jaws! What else can I say really that hasn’t been said? Terror, horror, blood, guts, and one damn big shark! Watch it!
10/10
haha…wen this was on starz the rating was PG
Okk not as good as i thought but a classic film.
Great thriller!
This movie was indeed one of the best movies i’ve ever seen. It was released in 1975 and still has much to offer to us also still leaves fear in peoples minds about swimming at the beach. The cast was great & producing was excellent. If you haven’t seen it i recommend you renting 100%.
Is it even needed to say anything? A movie that will live forever and stay as my favorite movie forever. If you have not seen this movie go buy it and then watch it and watch it again so this way you know for sure you watched it like everyone else in the world has. I CANNOT WAIT MUCH LONGER FOR THIS TO COME OUT ON BLU-RAY
i’m not trying to be an elitist asshole. the rating IS pg though. not R at all. it would definately be R in our generation but not at all then. do ur research..or just know a great flick.?
Not only one of the best horror movies but the best nature/animal versus man horror movie ever made.
love Jaws…
Jaws is a good film but i still don’t think it much as a horror. It’s called a monster movie. Sharks terrify me. i want one as a pet. but in my opinion Deep Blue Sea is better. Scarier, Bloodier and in places hilarious!!! This is a classic shark film and i like it but it IS NOT a fecking Horror Film!!!!! GET OVER IT!!!!!!
“You’re gonna need a bigger boat…”
A great movie. And sometimes REALLY creepy.
scariest movie ever.
Pretty good, but not a gore-fan movie.
The perfect film!Great Characters,Plot,Acting,Special Effects especially for 1975,Gore,Musical Score, and Cinematography. The music and the shark vision point of view takes you into the water as the maneating nemisis which to this date nothing hasn’t come close.Don’t even try to compare this to Deep Blue Sea which is fun but no where near the brilliance of this masterpiece! This movie still makes people nervous about going into water!
The Movie’s Okay But The First Half Is Really Boring But When They Get On The Orca That’s Where It Gets FUN! But Has An Awesome Score By John Williams
P.S. They Got The Rating Wrong On This Movie It’s Rated PG Not R
Lol, I never noticed BD needs to change the rating to PG! However, I think if this movie was made today it would have easily received an R rating. Two great movies that I can’t believe got a PG rating; Jaws and Indiana Jones Temple of Doom. Either way, this movie is one of the greatest horror films of all time!
one of the best movies of all time it scared me SHITLESS when i was a kid and when I first watched this i was eating fish and chips…put me off for life.
Still terrifying audiences worldwide even when it reaches the 35 year mark…
I really liked this movie. the shark effects were pretty coool. lots of parts were petty scary, the musical score was great,it is a classic
The best shark movie ever made. If they were to ever remake this, I would want to see them keep it (almost) frame by frame and add in the scenes that were cut for being to voilent.
If they made it like the book it would be a definate R rated gore fest
Classic
This has to be one of my favourite horror movies of all time. When i first saw it it scared the living shit out of me. It made me fear not just sharks but open water in gerneral. I absolutley love the fact that we dont even know what we’re dealing with until the very last sequence of the movie. The fact that we do not see Jaws until this point just builds the suspence which makes the film that much more frightening. I think nowadays suspence is ruined because the creatures are basically thrown in your face. An example of this would be the new wolfman film. I think if they would have withheld showing him then the impact of the insanely awesome makeup would have been much more relevant. But ya anyways this film is amazing, the acting is suburb and it should most definetly not be missed!
People saying Jaws isn’t a horror movie need to pull their heads out of their asses! Very few films have ever had the psychological impact on the movie going masses as Jaws did. It took several years for ocean side communities to recoup their lost tourism…people were literally afraid of the ocean like never seen before or since! Jaws instilled more fear into people than any gore, slasher, or torture film ever did. Jaws IS horror. Fact.
The movie in itself is 100% classic. The effects may be slightly outdated at times, but they are still good. Add the score, directing, acting, and excellent screenplay (and awesome novel it’s based on!) which gave us incredible character development…Jaws is a win in every category.
This isn’t Rated R; it says right up there on the movie poster PG.
I saw this when I was like 5 years old and to this day I’m scared of the water. I think “Jaws” is the culprit. Traumatized me as an infink.
This movie has aged pretty well. Still a classic.
The definitive killer shark film, this should be in everyone’s collection.
this is movie legend. just the fact that people were scared to get into the water makes it great! the story is awesome, as is the acting. there’s nothing wrong with this film whatsoever. i personally have a fear of the ocean, not a lake, not the tub, not the pool, just the ocean. and i will never get into it.
Amazing film. Last week my 10 y/o nephew asked me which horror movie is the scariest I have ever seen (he knows I’ve been a huge horror fan since I was a kid). I thought for a couple of minutes, really thought deep for which moive seriously scared me and stayed with me through my life… And it’s Jaws and Jaws 2! He was pretty bummed that I picked such a “boring” movie by todays standards, haha. But shit, I’m still scared to swim in the ocean and I can’t swim in a swimming pool at night unless the light is on, like for real!! I’m in my 30′s and there is no way in hell I will keep walking into the ocean after the water hits my knees! I just rewatched Jaws and Jaws 2 and my toes were curling! These are PG rated movies!! PG!! “Your gonna need a bigger boat”- Hell ya!!!
Ahhh, come now, who doesn’t love a classic? Worshiping this movie since I was around 10 and choosing gracefully to ignore all sequels this is one of those, “feels like home movies” for me. No I have no idea what that means either… just it’s a, “Hey, I like this movie let’s watch it!” type thing.
Apparently when it came to theaters my Dad was afraid to go near the toilet… I counter this by constantly quoting Q with my friend who calls me ‘Chiefy.’ Gotta love it.
Side Note: Michael Caputo’s ‘Close to Shore’ is a great read. (Account of the Jersey attacks that inspired ‘Jaws’)
Brilliant movie. I love how Spielberg shows us more of the people as apposed to showing the shark alot, even though that wasn’t his intention, the shark kept breaking down during shooting, but to show the family I think makes us likes the characters better. Jaws 2 is a good movie, I don’t understand why everyone hates it. Stay away from parts 3 and 4 though, GOD AWFUL.
This is a perfect movie.I could watch this movie over and over.Sheeeiit,I got it memorized. This is one of the reasons I never go swimming, even in freshwater lakes.
Classic.
A great 70s movie! An all time classic.
It makes me terrified to take a bath some days. A buddy movie, an adventure film, a truly great movie with a timeless tale.
One of the greatest walk away fear movies ever, Jaws is and always will be the greatest movie on my list of all time great movies. The gritty raw elements of the character built relationship which the movie gives the viewer is phenomenal. To think when this movie was released it psychologically effected everybody who watched it, you can not possibly tell me you did not contemplate what lurked beneath you when swimming in the sea after watching this film. 36 years on this movie can still be watched, enjoyed and effect people now. Spielberg should think about remaking this film himself and not change the story just upgrade the effects, I watched an Australian film called The Reef that will put the shivers up you indefinitely, but what that film lacks in contrast to Jaws is the embodiment of a chilling tale which turns into a great adventure story. This film is a true testament to something what will stand the test of time………
The granddaddy of all monster shark flicks!
If you’re reading these reviews and haven’t seen Jaws yet…watch it tonight. I loved this as a kid and became a shark fanatic in grade school. Watched it again recently and still love it. Best scene is Quint’s description of the sinking of the Indianapolis – “The thing about a shark… he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes”. Classic. Would have given it a 10 except the shark was a little phony looking at times.
DA-DUM. DA-DUM. DA-DUM. DA-DUM. DA-DUM.
CLASSIC.
No movie has ever, in my life, effected me the way this movie did. I saw it when I was very young, was so terrified, but simply could not look away from the screen. A combination of horrific fear and utter fascination came over me. I can say this movie is honestly the scariest movie for me. My biggest fears still to this day; open water and sharks. Thanks a lot JAWS.
Learn it. Live it. Love it.
This movie is the reason I wont go more than waist deep in the ocean… seriously.
It really doesn’t get much better than this. There’s a reason it was the scariest movie in its time. There’s a reason Spielberg’s a genius, there’s a reason the film struck fear into the hearts of people worldwide to the point where they were too scared to even enter their bathtub.
The film editor actually was the one to decide not to use the extra footage of the shark. It was the best last-minute decision in film history. The lack of footage of the shark gives it the extra feel of doom.
This is a masterpiece. With spine-tingling scenes, and BRILLIANT cinematography, the master of suspense strikes here with his greatest weapon.
This is also further proof that GOOD HORRORS DON’T HAVE TO BE R RATED. I’m all for a good r flick, but I hate the morons who claim that if a horror isn’t R rated, it’s not worth seeing. WRONG. This is one of THE highest rated horrors of all time and it’s PG (PG-13 by today’s standards).
This film did what a lot can’t do today
Apparently I watched this many years ago as a small child and so I decided to revisit it for the first time last night and found it to be a really great film! Not the best film ever made or the scariest but it’s definitely very entertaining and filled with exciting, nail-biting suspense. The final confrontation with the shark is a fantastic finale. It does have that feeling of a Steven Spielberg blockbuster without anything too over the top. Overall it’s a great entertaining film that gripped and chilled me. It seriously does make you think twice about going to the bean again, not that I ever did really swim in the ocean, it’s a tad too chilly for me.
One of Steven Spielberg’s best movies ever. Out of all the shark movies I’ve ever seen, this is, by far, the best.
Jaws 2 wasn’t as good as the first one, but it’s not half bad, and I recommend giving it a watch.
As for 3 and The Revenge, forget about them.
Classic! I love this movie and can watch it over and over again.
I remember queuing for a very long time when JAWS was first released back in 1976 and now when I arrived at the cinema no queue at all…in fact I was the only one seated. It felt like I hired the whole cinema for myself. Absolute quality. This cleaned up version gives you the highest picture quality, it’s like watching a film that was made very recently. Obviously the Blu- ray version is supreme image quality, however it was a cinematic experience seeing such a perfect slice of film history on the big screen. So many editions of this film have been released over the years, but this time as well as a short run at the cinema; the fantastic Blu-ray version is the first time JAWS is in this format. When the film started I thought ‘my god I’m in the cinema watching JAWS again’, it took me a while to calm down from the initial schoolboy excitement. This is without doubt Director Steven Speilberg at his finest. The decision to film dramatic water sequences with half the camera beneath the waters surface is genius and the script is still to this day well written and wonderfully acted by the cast.
When I was watching JAWS I had a sad feeling – We have incredible film technology available today and fantastic special effects that consistently entertain and amaze, however, with many current films the standard of story telling and original ideas have dropped, it seems to be about aesthetics now with very little depth of story or character. There is an innocence watching an old film that’s not aggressive or full of high end sweeping camera shots, boring dialogue, dull characters and bad acting. JAWS represents film entertainment perfection. The only other perfect film in the 1970’s was the original ‘The Exorcist’ (1973). They both have classic status for different reasons but they are timeless and even to this day are pure visual gold.
The John Williams film score is one the most famous and recognized in the world. It’s the soundtrack to tension and fear, its pure cinematic genius. I wonder if the score was different would JAWS be as successful and held in high regard as it is today. I knew almost all the dialogue and every scene, nothing was a surprise. I just wish there was a pill that removes film from your memory so when watching again today you relive the JAWS experience like many did way back in the 1970’s. The star of this film is without doubt Robert Shaw, he was a true great actor and I love his character ‘Quint’. One of my favorite moments is when Quint is seated on his ship the ‘Orca’ with his fishing rod and the wheel of fishing line starts to unwind gently and Quint stealthy straps himself into his chair – knowing the shark has taken the bait. The brilliant scene when wounds are compared and Quint then talks about his experience on the ‘USS Indianopolis’ is genuinely chilling: ‘eleven hundred men went into the water. 316 men come out, the sharks took the rest, June the 12th, 1945’. No other film speech has stayed with me more than this one proving words can be more powerful than any image. Unfortunately Shaw died in Ireland in 1978 aged 51. JAWS will remain in my top ten of all time because the memory of the huge impact it had on me back in 1976.
For those of us who went through that new and original cinematic experience many many years ago, you will never relive those initial reactions and emotions again and although it’s dated and predictable JAWS is genuinely moving and beautiful to watch again.
