this is a great movie. yes it is old and there is a remake, but lost something in the update. probably that the remake was for tv. This movie is awesome and scary and really gets you rooting for this poor girl. This movie really shows the teenager years to you in a way that make you glad not to be a youth anymore. Carrie is put the the worst stuff in school and she is trying to deal with herself and her mom. This movie very good and is not able to be duplicated. The sequal tries and is good but no where close.

This movie was a good rendition of Stephen King’s novel. However, the horror and carnage are no where near the same as the novel. Too bad. The carnage in the novel would have looked way cool on the big screen.

The mother was no where near as warped as she was in the novel, but still a good try.

Sissy Spacek is awesome as Carrie. Great acting! When she has her freak out on stage covered in blood – her eyes are fantastic!

Part of the reason why this movie is good is because it was filmed in the 70s. Back then Directors dared to be more gritty and creative, and the cast were just normal people, not something out of a vogue magazine.

One of the best horror films ever made. A very well-made, entertaining and creepy horror film that gets better with age. Fantastic.

The first time I saw this movie I was in High School. It definitly makes you think twice about taunting someone in school, because you just never know. It was one of the best movies of its time. Creepy and freaky. Totally two thumbs up.

I enjoyed it, but I don’t think it’s the super-amazing classic that most people believe. It was better than the remake, though.

“Carrie boomed Sissy Spacek’s and John Travolta’s career. I understand why.

Carrie starts off at a gym locker room, where we find out how much the other kids hate Carrie. But, we find out that Carrie has some powers. Like in other Stephen King book-movies, the supernatural aspect is only minor compared to the rest of the story, but it comes into play at the end. Carrie’s mom (Piper Laurie) is an over-protective religious zealot who makes The Royal Tenenbaums seem normal. So Carrie tries to cope with her horrible life, but it’s getting tougher and tougher.

Spacek is exceptional as Carrie, and I now know why she was nominated for Best Actress. Her emotions are real, not some fake tear drops that make us think she’s sad. Either she has great motivation, or she’s one of the best actresses of the century (or both!). Laurie was equally good as her mother who locks Carrie up in a closet everytime she thinks that Carrie has sinned. This movie wouldn’t be half of what it was if the acting wasn’t so great. When Carrie was sad, you were sad. When the other kids ridiculed her, you felt like you wanted to kill the kids. When she smiled, you smiled. Emotions that raw couldn’t come from just any movie.

If you know me, I’m a stickler for character developement. Carrie didn’t take much time, but from the opening scene you knew about Carrie and her weakness. So are the secondary characters; they’re nicely developed even if their role isn’t that major. Travolta had a miniscule role, but he was fine in it; it led to Grease and Saturday Night Fever.

The prom scene has got to be one of the most memorable scenes from a horror movie. That red tint is awesome; it’s like a premonition. In fact, the movie is full of premonition: the red tint, the freaky looking voodoo doll, “They’re all going to laugh at you.” I’m assuming that director Brian De Palma meant to put that in, so it just isn’t about some supernatural powers, it’s also about foreshadowing. Also, I dig that camera movement during the dancing.

The blood and gore wasn’t held back, but they just put in what was necessary. De Palma obviously stole from Hitchcock’s Psycho, mainly the music cue whenever Carrie is using her telepathy. Also, her school, Bates High, is another Psycho refrence.

Carrie was also very creepy. It wasn’t a thrill-a-minute, but at the ending, that was Scary with a capital S. The last ten or twenty minutes were scare-inducing for sure. That last jump scene in the dream…wow! It’s still jumping at me. If there was one complaint I had to do about the movie, it’s that it took too much time to get to main scene and the prom went on a little too long, but other than that it’s a first class horrror/thriller that any horror buff needs to see.” — movieguy1021 ([email protected]), imdb.com

I’m sorry, but I thought this movie was garbage. I personally think it is one of the most overated movies of all time, let alone in horror. And it really is the story, not the actual film. I just never liked it very much. I must admit, this version is far, far better than the SciFi Channel remake.

A pretty faithful adaptation of the book and one of the best , along side Pet Sematary , Christine and Misery. Sissy Spaceck is perfectly cast as the shy , demure and come prom night down right dangerous Carrie as is Piper Laurie as her loony mother. The shock ending well, is a great shock on first viewing but everybody knows it by now. The entire prom sequence is devastating, just look at her eyes!! This film asks whats more terrifying , religious mania or being an outcast teenager? Great suspensful direction and supporting characters add to an extremely well made film from a forgotten master, Brian De Palma. Perfect.

This is the scariest film ive seen i think its amazing! The storys disturbing the actingings brilliant and the film is very moving. Carries mum is definitly the thing that makes this film scary (played brilliantly by Piper) she bullies carrie and is a religious nut! She adds a certain chill to the movie I love it although it’s terrifying and the ending will leave you screaming!

I liked this film when I first saw it years ago, and the book is still pretty great. However I watched it the other day and it bored the balls off me. The acting sucked (stand up John Travolta) and it was terribly terribly dated, from the shit effects to the crap music and those fucked up looking haircuts (the hair on the guy named Tommy was just awful!). Stick to the book.

Anybody who gives this movie crap cause it’s “dated” is a moron. Just freaking see past that; the film’s 33 years old! This is the best it can be!

No one can play the creepy outcast girl better than Sissy Spacek. Nobody! Carrie in the remake is just plain ass, for example. And that Tamara movie? Wtf is that shit?

Classic. Creepy and disturbing are all words that describe this film.

Only complaint is that the ending isn’t nearly as demented as it was in the book. But I imagine the budget and just plain a lack of special effects at that time are to blame.

the beginning of the film you get to see carries abilities which was fun. Great soundtrack throughout but the middle of the film it just piled on the story and nothing happens. Nothing terrifying about that and the prom night dance is such a wasted opportunity. I know its 30+ years old but 1 death out of the whole prom and the fire wasn’t even her doing….very disappointing.

There are many better 70s horror movies then this. Texas Chainsaw, Phantasm, Last House on the Left, Hills have eyes, Jaws, etc.

first of all, if you haven’t read the book than do it. Now. having said that, this is a really good adaptation of a King novel. sure, by todays standards it’s pretty campy with the music and all of the “EEE” noises just when something weird happens but you have to be able to look past all of that. this movie has great direction. de Palma does an excellent job of using the camera in new ways( i think the split screen shots were revolutionary). the acting, especially by Spacek, was pretty much good. and you can’t forget piper laurie as the deranged mother, who abuses carrie by locking her in the closet to pray all night as punishment for blaphemy. her role is well acted and the movie wouldn’t be as good of not for her. the scenes inside the high school are some of the best in the biz, we all know about the pigs blood. but the very end is totally fucking awesome! for first time viewers, they always jump. even King himself said that was a classy move! all around, this movie is must see. perectly made, great horror movie!! and with all of the bullying thats happening right now, people need to see this!!

I respect horror films like “Carrie”, because horror films like “Carrie” are the best kind of horror films.

“Carrie” is not only a frightening and disturbing supernatural horror piece; but also an intelligent character study and observation of the teenage woman. What I do admire is that we feel Carrie’s social skills getting drastically better-and-better as time goes on.

And as you may know, Carrie is no ordinary girl. The horror-aspect of “Carrie” comes in when we learn that this girl has telekinetic powers, and she intends to use them on her religious-freak of a mother. Carrie’s mother is the source of our heroine’s social ignorance; as she keeps the young lass locked up at home, and provides little explanation of the world.

But wait…there’s a prom coming up soon, and Carrie has been asked by a popular boy. She is overjoyed, and ready to rise up a bit on the food chain. By the time that night is over, “Carrie” will have shocked and scared you. It’s a scary horror film that is smart, sad, intelligent, and entertaining as hell. A classic for sure; and one that I do indeed respect quite greatly. Much recommended.

This movie is a definite classic. It’s one of the saddest horror films I’ve ever seen. The strange twist about the movie is that the scariest element isn’t Carrie, but her deranged mother…who gradually winds up being the story’s antagonist. Intelligent dichotomy of the movie’s potentially dangerous main character (Carrie) also being the all-around victim. Good girl with all kinds of powers and bad luck.
