Sundance ’11: ‘The Silent House’ Acuired for US Distro

Mickey Liddell’s Liddell Ent. has snapped up worldwide right to Sundance horror pic The Silent House (review), excluding Blighty, Scandinavia and the Middle East. A domestic deal is expected to unfold shortly after CAA negotiated the deal with Liddell for a reported $3 million minimum with a P&A commitment north of $3 million. A number of U.S. buyers are circling the project including Lionsgate and the Weinstein Co. Expect news soon. Silent House, an English remake of the Uruguayan La Casa Muda, is the second pic from Open Water helmers Chris Kentis and Laura Lau. It toplines Elizabeth Olsen and Maggie Gyllenhaal and follows the tale of a family who returns to their longtime summerhouse after it was violated by squatters in the off-season. Watch for exclusive interviews and a review this week! (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst ’10: HORROR GUY KEENAN’S TOP 10 OF 2010

It was a rough year finding good horror films in theaters. The last two years seemed to have some great gems. Not to mention a lot of theaters pulled some great horror movies out way to early (but I won’t go into that whole shenanigans right now). I had to look elsewhere for decent horror and stumbled upon a few I think will be soon to be classics. So read below and check out my top list of 2010. (more…) READ MORE

Lionsgate’s ‘Siren’ is ‘Dead Calm’ Meets ‘Open Water’

Seduction can be murder. Feel the fear as Lionsgate debuts Siren on DVD, Digital Download and On Demand March 22. What’s meant to be a relaxing weekend on the coast turns deadly for a group of friends when they attempt to rescue a young temptress waving to them for help. Called “an exotic tale of lust and revenge” (Maxim.com), Siren stars Eoin Macken (Showtime’s “The Tudors”), Anna Skellern (The Descent: Part 2), Tereza Srbova (Inkheart) and Anthony Jabre (film debut). The Siren DVD includes never-before-seen deleted scenes. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst of 2009: The Year’s Best One Sheets

Before any footage from a film is seen, typically a teaser or full one sheet is released by a studio. This is an incredibly important, even detrimental process as it is the first thing the consumers will see and identify with a movie. If the poster stinks, the consumer might write it off all together, while a good poster could lead to them checking out the official website, trailer and best case scenario, hanging it from their wall (the most personal relationship any of us have with a movie). To say the least, posters are damn important. As part of our year end coverage, we present to you the year’s best theatrical posters. (more…) READ MORE
