Okay i will tell you what this whole movie is about in one whole sentence…get ready
“A BUNCH OF ASIAN KIDS MAKIN KREEPY NOISES!”
the end…
exteamly sad excuse for a movie
i wish i could give this no rating…
this movie freaked me out. i watched this last night at midnight and i was totallyy freaked. a scary ass movie. cant wait 2 watch grudge 2.
Scary
This in in my top 10 worse movies I have ever seen. So damn boreing.
Yes, it was cheaply shot. Yes, the plot made no sense (if it even had one at all). But unlike 95% of horror movies I’ve seen, this actually tried to be scary and it succeeded. And it wasn’t a all-out rip-off.
As well, it proves that rating doesn’t matter. This got PG-13, but The Orphanage got R, and they both had exactly the same content. In all honesty, this movie was probably more mature in the first place. I really don’t understand MPAA.
Very good,scary,bloody ghost story
This is one of those films where it’s so frightening and terrifying that the plot just does not matter in the slightest. I don’t give a shit about the plot. This movie is genuinely creepy and much better than the original, and is definitely worth watching because it does deliver what it promises, if not much else.
I fail to see any actual scary or terrifying things in this film, this was an over hyped movie like the ring and had negative results, in my opinion.
entertainin but got dumb
The Grudge is one of my favorite horror movies and in my opinion is extremely underrated. I love the structure of the movie: how more and more of the layers of the mystery are slowly as different stories are revealed. The payoff is fantastic. Some great scares and the ghosts are frighteningly vicious. I love the Japanese actors that played the ghosts. I still get shivers when i hear that gutteral sound.
Pretty good and entertaining. The dead girl was really creepy!
I sat and watched this movie alone andit kinda freaked me out. Then my son got home from school and I watched with him because I knew itwould scare the crap out of him,so I got a good giggle out of it the second time around. All in all, avery creepy movie.I can still scare my son by making that creepy noise the ghost made and he’s almost 19.HA,HA.
it takes alot for a movie to scare me. i can watch something like the excorcist and not be fased. but this flick scared the hell out of me. i saw this in a theater, and i dropped half my popcorn from jumping. movie kinda sucks, but man, its scary as hell.
nice movie, gave me chills
The grudge is actually a decent remake. The scares are okay and like the story a lot. I agree, The grudge has some flaws, but once you get past that you’ll like The grudge. It’s somewhat gory, scary, and leaves you guessing what’s going to happen next. Is the original better? Yes. But is the remake still good? Yes. As long as you aren’t expecting anything fantastic or even original, you will be satisfied with The grudge.
this one and the second one scared the shit out of me… me and my gf were paralyzed after seeing this movie!!!!
yuck,origional was better.
one of my favourite scary movies.
So so remake. The only thing that really made it stand out was the chick that had her lower jaw ripped off, but really that was just stolen from the Ju-on 2.
I may be a horror junkie, but it takes a lot to bring something home with me after watching a movie. This is one of the few films that did, and I had two sleepless nights to credit to it.
The Grudge was, in my mind, the second real horror film I ever saw (the first was THE RING! which is still my favorite). It is a brilliant display of director Takashi Shimizu’s talents (I hope I spelt that correctly!). Delving into the inner recesses of our minds, the Grudge does more that set out jumpy scares, it affects the audience psychologically. I found myself with real terror in each scene. And the best part about this movie is: when it builds up, it doesn’t disappoint! The scare is just as scary as you anticipate!
I’ve returned to this movie countless times after the first viewing, and it never ceases to entertain me. A classic horror film that, in my opinion (and don’t hate me for this) is far superior to the original japanese film!
The Grudge- 2004
Good Parts- very creepy and scary atomsphere, pretty good acting, good make up and special effects
Bad Parts- slow paced and drags on, some moments are very predictable
Overall a pretty decent horror movie that (unfortunatley) sparked a series of PG-13 American remakes of Japanese horror films, it has it moments but it drags on way too much
6/10
it was pretty good
This movie scared the shit out of me! I usally don’t get scared by horror movies, but this one… Scared me!! Great movie!! Well done i thought.
ummmmmm its not that bad not as good as i thought
The Grudge isn’t that good. Despite all the great reviews, it’s nothing that special actually. I mean, it is very scary, and that’s coming from me, and the little boy is a very disturbing figure. The Grudge has a fair plot, but nothing special, and it drags on a bit to the point of boredom. The acting isn’t as good as everyone makes it look like, but Sarah Gellar is a great actress. The horror aspect is there, and there are some stunning special effects and classic cliche’s. Most of this movie is predictable though.
Overall, a basic thriller, with nothing much going for it except some scary ass scenes.
6/10
For what it is, I’d say it was ok. Still not that good; terrible acting, very light suspense, and only a couple good scares. Only decent the first time around.
Ehh hmm ok.
terrible! One of the least scary films ever!
if u really take the time watching this movie and understand it its really good and really scary
I wanted to rip my eyes out.
Back when it came out and I was in high school, my buddy and me were scared senseless. Loved every minute of it. Still love the Extended Directors’ Cut even more.
I actually prefer the U.S. remake to the original Japanese Ju-On…I know that may sound like sacrilege. The story flowed smoother, connected the dots a little better, and if I remember correctly, showed a little more of how the curse began. Of course, the unrated version is the only way to go…the theatrical version is avoidable.
i found this movie to be kinda boring. it has’nt been that long since i’ve seen it, but it’s so boring that i kinda forgot about the storyline!
This is one of the scariest films I’ve ever seen, i don’t know why everyone hates it! It has soom fantastic creepy moments and really keeps you on the edge of your seat, it made me jump a few times as well! This really is a great film, you will jump. The atmosphere is so tense throught the whole film and it keeps you curious about whats going to happen next. Everything is great about this film (apart from the acting)
One of my favorite ghost movies
not as good as the original but a very good remake
Fuck the Motherfucking Grudge. Normally, my reviews aren’t this base but this movie deserves no better. They took a movie with brilliant imagery, clever scares, and a truly horrifying story and turned it into Sarah Michelle Gellar trying to save her boyfriend. I know Sam Raimi brought over the original director to make an Americanized version of Ju-On and this was a huge mistake. Other countries don’t think too highly of the United States. I give a lot of credit to Takashi Shimizu as a director, though, because sadly, if a full-blooded U.S. director made this, it would’ve been the exact same movie.
This is the most scarest J-Horror Remake ever!!! (& The Ring) great acting by Sarah Michelle Geller & cast brilltant gorey/spookyfil but had it flaws
but an excettlen sacry film
what a shitty movie. I mean absolutly horrible. I actually watched it with my girlfriends daughter who is only 5 (we allow her to watch pg13 horror as long as we are with her) she didn;t find anything in the movie scary. After we watched this piece of shit, we put on Poltergeist and wow she loved that movie and she had some moments where she had to use my hand to cover the screen, but back to the piece of shit. Why do filmakers have to use a cat to set up a pseudo scare, come on people how ofter has that been done? Why are pale little asian kids so scary? If this is what you call horror then you have shallow taste, I usually dont insult people based on there opinions but I have to make an exceptions because this is pure shit and to all you motherfuckers who actually recomended this to me, may you burn in hell. Sam Raimi actually produced this and this will be his absolute worst film he has been associated with. If you have a conversation with someone about horror movies and they recomend this piece of shit to you, don’t listen to them becuase there positive opinion about this movie proves that they are ignorant to the horror genre in general for there is no reason to tell someone to watch the pile of garbage with all the great horror films out there. Watch Poltergeist, The entity I would rather watch the original amytivile before I watch this fuck I would rather watch SAW 3 or jaws revenge before I watch this again and we all know how shitty saw 3 was. Oh yea if you liked saw 3 then you are a fucking retard.
If you think this movie’s scary your a faggot, it’s total & utter shit.
While I do prefer the original Japanese version, I still enjoy watching this film. I adore everything Sarah Michelle Gellar; the horror genre fits her like a glove.
There are times where this gets really predictable, but for the most part, this is genuinely creepy.
lol this movie scared the piss outta me the 1st tiem I saw it years ago. Thats a rare occurence so it gets a 10 on that alone.
Not a huge Sarah Michelle Gellar fan but she managed to not make me want to strangle her here.
I personally found it scary, but its all about what scares you most and it did to get to me, i found it uncomfortable to watch, and quite thin story wise
When i first seen this movie it creeped me the fuck out! The cast wasn’t great but that girl in
attic…shit or crawling down the stairs groaning. That one got to me for a bit. Overall not a horrible movie!
Come on, 1/10? It’s not that bad. ‘The Grudge’ is actually quite scary for the most of it, however very American-esque and nothing to rival the classics, like ‘The Exorcist’. Its worth a rent, maybe even a buy.
Some say its very scary and a good film, while others say its not scary and a poor film. Me? I say its inbetween. I fully agree with groundgamer’s review on August 22nd 2009.
6/10
Jesus Freaking christ!
Why are Chinease movies sooo fucking Scary?
Theres actually nothing wrong with addmiting that you scared of something, it actually makes you feel more alive when you have fears, it doesn’t make you a faggot. I thought this movie was a masterpeace
Very creepy ghost movie. I liked it.
a girl that sounds asmatic yeah, no thanks. pass
boring…
Creepy and intense. The Grudge has plenty of scares.
Good one, well ambiented and the end is amazing!
I remember I was like 10 when this came out and I just about shit myself, but now when i watch it i realize its not that scary and its not the best movie.
Only good end, thats all
not anywhere near as good as the japanese version. typical hollywood shmollywood bullshit.
Lets put it this way… if Japan ever decides to re-militarize and bomb us again… IT WILL BECAUSE WE ALWAYS DESTROY THEIR FRACKIN’ HORROR MOVIES. And sadly I might not be inclined to fight back at this rate.
Scariest thing about this one for me was simply the way the girl moved and the sounds she made… plus the hair… I hate hair…
Wait no I’m sorry the scary thing might be that Sarah Michelle Gellar managed to live (through this one.)
And no, being Buffy is not an excuse for survival…
Meh.
….
An interesting and creepy, supernatural thriller. Love it!
not gonna lie, when this first came out (I was in like 9th grade) this movie scared the living hell out of me. I couldn’t sleep, I would shake, cry, etc. Now of course, not really scary, haha. However, I will give it props. I think it’s decent. Takashi Shimizu did a great job, and it helped that the remake still got the original director.
I’m sorry, but little asian boys covered in white make-up yelping cat noises from the top of a staircase don’t really scare me…
A rip-off from The Ring/Ringu. But still not bad…
So yeah, the Grudge…what can I say? The movie actually freaked me out quite a bit. Even though she didn’t have a huge part, I watch everying Clea DuVall is in, I think she’s an awesome actress. Review over.
Little kids who scream like cats and pasty face women with long hair are not scary. 5/10
This movie wasn’t really scary, but the storyline and acting were good.
