one of the best remakes ever. this movie has awesome blood and gore and was intense as hell. this is 2006′s best horror movie. the mutants are creepty and the horror is amazingly real. the unrated version makes the movie much better.
Great Remake.
This is a truly great remake to a truly mediocre original movie. Aja really knows how to pack thrills into a movie. It’s very effective, thrilling… hell, even scary. Easily the best remake since the new craze has hit.
amazing
It was alright. Never really scary but pushed the limits on horrible. The freaks were okay. Great for a remake but didn’t cut it for me.
amazing alex aja is a great director.
by far one of the best remakes.
Way better than the original…
This movie was pretty ok..second one was alot better
Just an awesome remake that outshines the original in every way.
I like this. For one, it is better than both the original and the sequal to this, so it must be good. Fortunetly, it is. Its no legendary horror movie, though, in fact, it is pretty much known for the scene where this girl gets raped by a mutant cannibal thing. Graphically. Very. Visually…graphically. Anyhow, the rest of the movie is pretty cool, features a guy getting a pick-axe to the head, a baseball bat to the head, guns, weapons, etc. Overall, I would say get it, and if you really like it, try out the sequal to it…it has more guns

perfect remake
Alex aja… When someone says his name, I can Name THE HILLS HAVE EYES right off the bat. Well i felt a little embaressed about leaving the theater when the Rape part came and i barley saw any movie like that Before that gave me that Shock and horror. Alex Makes The Original Wes movie “THE HILLS HAVE EYES”(1977) look like Elmos world. It was brilliant with how the Jagged hills and the town, Especially The fight scene was very well done and Very bloody and graphic. Looked like he used a little CGI blood on some scenes. But dont even get me Started on Score. Tomandandy Not only match the music with the movie, He makes a Masterpeice of horror. Disturing and heart pounding. Perfect from The Beginning Titles to the Credits.
I love how the dog gets his revenge. its awesome.
Slicing and dicing. I just wish he Directed the second one. Which comes to mind. I need to review that one too. I give this movie a perfect 10. With Mutant rapes to Waking up in a Pile of body parts. I wish i could meet this brilliant man. Well Peace Out!
Down right BRUTAL! Remake or no remake its still a movie that will make you cringe and actully feel what the victims in the movie are feeling, so many times I wanted to jump into the movie and fight along side of the family and beat the living hell out of them mutants. Aja did a great job with this movie. This movie I use every year in my halloween movie marathon!
Truly an instant classic, probably the most terrified I have ever been in a theatre, definately my favorite from Alexandre Aja. Well done
Good movie.
I love Alexandre Aja’s works, he has this amazing creativity and style that brings movies to life and makes them so much fun to watch. This movie is definatley a questionable flick though. There were many things that made you just want to cancel out on a family vacation in this film. It was very uncomfortable to watch at times and I’m not one to say this for many films but hell, it scared me. The sets were errie and unsettling, and the acting was very good considering the genre. The ending was really cool too, which is another reason why I love Alexandre’s projects, he always, I reapeat, ALWAYS gives you an ending that will make you think beyond. To talk about some drawbacks of the film, there are a few: Sometimes the action was a bit silly in terms of what was all going on at once, and the consistency of the film just seemed a little odd. Aside from that, I think gorehounds, indie movie lovers, and vacationers will like this movie. It’s a really fun and thrilling watch. In conclusion, I’m not going with my family to New Mexico for spring break this year after seeing this movie.
Pretty intense flick. I was shocked by what they did with this. This movie is not for the weak. I felt the ending was rushed. Awesome though.
Yeah, I totally dont agree with the bd review, how could you not say that this was a great horror movie, the trailer scene in the beginning was so fuckin fucked up it actually upset me the first 1 or 2 times I saw it. and when that democrat dude or whatever, fights that rediculously strong freak, that was great, this movie was really good, the second one was pretty shitty though, whyd they have to bring the army in? I knew from the beginning it wouldnt be good. This is a classic. Gory as hell, and yes, admit it! this is gorier than frontier(s).
Kill The Baby!, great movie!
What takes place in the trailer once the shit hits the fan makes this film; relentless violence and the demise of some “important” characters in deeply unpleasant circumstances.
I can’t believe BD gave this film such a low review,I was very pleased with this film. One of the very few remakes I like.
amazing remake the surpasses the original in every way. i’m shocked BD gave it a low rating as well, it was and is, so far, the best remake of a horror film to date.
I loved this movie, one of the better remakes i have seen in awhile… It was just a badass movie!
Great remake/movie it was really scary and very gory. Flat out great film.
Definitely a film worth watching!!
10/10
How could they remake a classic like The Hills Have Eyes? Well, they have, and they have succeeded! This awesome remake is everything you need from a horror movie. Gore, action, suspense and terror. This movie is one of the best American horror movies I have ever seen in this modern age. Amazing CGI, great gore and special effects and an even better sound track, this movie is possibly the best remake of them all, along with Halloween! The acting is solid, the script and plot are amazing, and those deformed people are just brilliant.
10/10
Man remaking an amazing cult classic was a bad idea, but they made it good. This movie is awesome; great music, GREAT gore, and some pretty suspenseful sequences. An amazing remake, easily the best out there, and I’m ashamed to say this but I thought it was better than the original.
Easily the best of the Horror remakes. I find the original to be dull and more of a chore to actually have to sit through. Aja brought an amazing style to the film and actually made me care about what’s going on. I’m so confused as to how it recieved such a low rating.
BAD
By far one of the best remakes I’ve seen.
It was DISGUSTING. It grossed me out beyond anything I have ever watched, but I just couldn’t turn it off. Loved it. Definitley recommend : )
8/10
nice remake but I prefer the Original
A great remake. I saw it in theaters when it was released and i truely enjoyed the entire movie. I haven’t seen many remakes i really like but this is one of the great few.
A solid remake that was a lot of fun to watch. Definitely creeped me out.
The Hills Have eyes is an exception to the tried and cliche remakes that are pointless and utterly redundant. Finally an intelligent remake with actors that at least have half a brain. The gore was truly amazing, the actors were spot on, and the concept was great. The whole film was suspenseful and tension building. Definitely an intense, balls-to-the-wall horror flick. I highly recommend it. A solid horror film indeed.
Very good remake.
Good acting, plot, location.
Some pretty twisted sh*t going on in this movie lol but im used to it by now.
Reccomended
One of the best re-makes
This is waaaaaaay better than the original Wes Craven version. The old 70′s version was a piece of cheap crap. This one has better acting, great visuals and…that’s about it.
The story is still flimsy. Why in the world would a family take the loooong way to San Diego through the New Mexico desert where you go for miles without seeing a human soul. I’ve traveled through New Mexico/Arizona, albeit on a state highway, and there are actually signs that warn you to gas up because the next gas station is 100 miles away.
So, the family patriarch listens to a squirrel-y old man at a run down gas station and takes a dirt road THROUGH the desert. What a dumbass. Of course the mutants make sure the truck wrecks/breaks down and then the mayhem begins. Cell phones don’t work and neither does the CB. The men have to hoof it to find help with predictable results.
This is just okay. I started watching it and remembered I’d seen it before on the SciFi channel or somewhere. The mutants are pretty fucked up looking with a great make-up job. The actual gore stuff is unconvincing and kinda lame. It looks like Rob Zombie edited this movie since it plays out like a music video. The desert is slow and vast, so it would make since to have long shots with no cuts (check out perfection by seeing The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly).
I see reviews saying this is brutal and twisted. It’s quite the opposite. Wrong Turn and Wolf Creek are far more worthy updates of the stranded in the middle of nowhere and pursued by sick fucks genre. A Bad movie but worth a rental.
The Hills Have Eyes (remake)
2/5/2010
Very few words can make a hardened movie fanatic like me cringe more then when I hear “remake” or the now popular “reboot.” Studios will only remake successful movies that they shouldn’t touch to begin with. Because nobody in there right mind would remake a piece of crap that actually deserves to be remade. No matter how good or bad the remake is they still make money due to sheer name recognition and curiosity. Now you must be thinking this is going to be a negative review. This movie is the exception to the rule. The original “Hills Have Eyes” was made in 1977 by Wes Craven, and it was mediocre at best. The job of remaking this film was given to French director Alexandre Aja who’s horror film “High Tension” was completely awesome (if you can ignore the illogical ending).
Aja and his writing partner Gregory Lavesuer took Craven’s original script and made into one of the sickest and taboo busting horror films in years. Filmed in Morocco to look like New Mexico, it really looks like the surface of Mars. This movie is like a shotgun to your senses. Although it is based on some well known horror clichés, it just works.
The basic premise of the “Hills” movies goes like this. Back in the 1940′s and 50′s the United States did extensive Atomic bomb testing in the Nevada and New Mexico deserts. A group of miners were caught in the fallout and have been hideously deformed and now have a taste for human flesh. These mutants live in the abandon mine shafts picking off tourists. The bomb tests and radiation deformities are based on fact, while the whole cannibalistic mutant tribes are not (maybe).
The Carter family is taking a summer road trip to San Diego. They’re driving a Suburban with a refurbished Airstream trailer in tow. All of the characters are very likable and down to earth. Real characters, not just one dimensional stereotypes. They stop at the ole clichéd dilapidated gas station with the one crazy attendant, which is the very definition of a tourist trap. The man has a deal with the Hill people. The Carters take a short cut suggested by the attendant and run to a trap that cripples their Suburban. Stuck in the middle of the dessert, they try to make the best out of the situation. Little do they know they are being watched. The mood, atmosphere, and music add the perfect touch of edge of your seat creepiness. When the Hill people make there move on the Carter’s all bets are off. The filmmakers hold nothing back; this sequence of events is so utterly disturbing it will rock even hardcore fans. I don’t want to give away too much, because this is a movie that has to be experienced. Although this is a crazy story, it seems to be grounded in a sort of reality. This is an extremely rare occurrence when a remake is far superior to the original. There are two version of film available “R” and Unrated. There was a sequel made the following year that is very average.
The ONLY good remake that’s been made so far…PERIOD!!
Not true this is the only good remake but it was awsome. I give this one a Ten easy.
The sense of dread in this movie is almost too much to bare! From the beginning I was in suspense all the way up to the trailer death scenes because thats when most of the cast is killed off. Then it kinda lost me afterwards.Because I knew who was left would live. I also have to give it props for the rape scene. It was disturbing but not nearly as much as the last house on the left or its remake.I hate films that put that in there.its really no point! But to make u feel disgusted maybe its bc of my childhood that messes my head up so but i dont know who would want to watch that. But it wasn’t nearly as bad as some that ive seen although I do wish it was just left out.Cast was great, suspense was amazing better than the original but still just an ok film for me.
Imo one of the only good re-makes besides Night of The Living Dead and The Thing. Not really sure why this movie gets 2.5 out of 5 skulls but F13 remake gets 4 this is a far superior film. The actors were good and the gore is top notch. I don’t cheer or hope for characters to survive or prevail often but this movie did that(i did want to see the dad die though). Awesome movie check it out
best horror movie in world
Like most everyone else I found this remake to be top notch. Gritty has hell, characters you care about that grow and change, a roller coaster ride of terror and gore. This is a movie that no matter how many times I’ve seen it, if it’s playing on TV I will get sucked into it, even if it’s edited. This kind of great character development is difficult to find in horror and the family was so believeable that when the shit stared to go down it was like a horrible train wreck that sickened me but I couldn’t turn away. The unrated version is worth it, if you think you can handle it
It’s a great movie to show to nonhorror fans. Just sit back and see how long they can take it before they have to “go to the bathroom”
great movie effects, use of animals helped make it feel real. brutal deaths, burning alive is always seen as brutal to me.the dessert really set the tone though.
EWWW! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? MAYBE IF THEY ADDED A STORY ID THINK ITS DECENT! ewww… no… no
i did not like this movie. aside from the great cinematography, and a good climax, it felt like a shot by shot remake with nothing new to offer.
It’a good remake, very entertaining and well made, the soundtracks is wow.
I hate most new horror movies and I especially hate most horror remakes, but i ll be damned if this one wasnt half bad. It was actually surprisingly good. The best moments being at the end when the main character goes rambo on the mutants with his dog.
The music and gore in this movie are great. I reccommend this movie to anyone who likes horror and doesnt mind some disturbing scenes.
This movie was done so well. Although they took some cheap shots (Watered down rape scene, gun to a baby’s head). This movie was effective in bringing terror to the screen. Love the mutants and the way they inflict punishment to this family. Never take
an alternate route through the desert.
great film
good movie, this scared me a couple of times lol, this kinda has a Wrong Turn feal to it, yep really good acting , really creepy ending:)
Great Great Great movie, extremely goryy!!
I never like the original and this one was just as bad imo. No entertainment value for me.
This is one of those good remakes. Loved the story.Only thing wrong was the scares, there weren’t any.Good gore effects, but that was it. this movie relied on gore not scares.
Good after all.
This remake blew me away! The scenery transports you to an alien environment full of craters, canyons, and mutants. Aja doesn’t hold back on the gore for all the High Tension fans.
not a very good movie, but still a fun way to kill a couple hrs. on fri. night. story doesn’t really make sense, but i guess it might be plausible. thought that the makeup and special effx were ok.
Alexandre Aja is my favorite horror movie director, and this movie is way better than the old version, because Alexandre made it more scarier.
It’s a good movie.
Pretty damn good remake with definite improvements from the original. The “trailer attack” scene is shocking, disturbing, and definitely the highlight of the film.
It’s a sad, sad world when stuff like this can sell so well. “The Hills Have Eyes, which has been remade here by Alexandre Aja, confirms my claim that us Americans like to watch on-screen violence. I don’t expect that this movie, or any other Aja film for the matter, was made to solely make money, but the fact that this kind of film can make so much big bucks makes me sick.
The whole thing is a wilderness of genuinely poor execution and genuinely good stylization. The film looks mighty fine; the cinematography is nice, the blood is realistic, and the thing is just brutal, brutal, brutal. That’s great. That’s fantastic. But please, give this violence a reason. I do know that psychopathic, deformed mutants would act in such violent ways; but that does not mean that a freaking movie should be made about it.
The story is that of the original film; people stop at creepy gas station, people leave and go a little ways away, and finally, people get stuck in the middle of nowhere with a family of bloodthirsty mutants stalking and surrounding them at all times. Not a bad story, but like in the original film, it’s not particularly well-executed. This is horror that is designed to sicken, and while sometimes, I can get by that, I just can’t in this case. This film does not have a good enough plot, good enough characters, and it does not know where it’s heart is at. The film tries to balance horror with drama; and can’t do much of either. It’s a gruesome blood-bath toward the end, and it’s almost entertaining. But blood-and-gore without substance and beauty makes for an uneven film, and that’s why “The Hills Have Eyes” is such generic genre trash. However, it’s not unwatchable. But that’s far from a recommendation.
I have already rated and reviewed this film, but I will say that this is an amazing remake to a really good classic. I have seen the Wes Craven version and I really liked it. It doesn’t come close to Aja’s, but it’s good and enjoyable.
Alexandra Aja is a fantastic horror director, who directed “High Tension, and the “Piranha” re-do. High Tension is amazing and Piranha is great.
The Hills Have Eyes (2006) 10/10
The Hills Have Eyes (1977) 8.8/10.
I was drunk on several 40′s of King Cobra and high on meth & crack when I saw this… but it was some good sh*t bro.
Hobo Approved(TM)
Officially the horror that disturbed me.
I was new to horrors when this came out. I was not nearly as desensitized as I am now. It was highly disturbing and morbid.
I can’t give it the lowest score though, it was impressively scary. But disturbing as helllllll
This remake was great i really liked it.
This is undoubtly one of the best horror remakes of all time. Very gory, suspenseful and great characters.
