A Visit to the Set of James Wan’s ‘Insidious’ Part I

After a departure from the horror genre with 2007′s Death Sentence, director James Wan has re-teamed with Saw and Dead Silence partner Leigh Wannell for the supernatural horror/thriller Insidious, premiering next month in the Toronto Film Festival’s “Midnight Madness” category. Back in May B-D’s Chris Eggertsen had the opportunity to visit the set in downtown Los Angeles to check out some of the filming and talk to star Patrick Wilson, production designer Aaron Sims, and special makeup effects artist Justin Raleigh. First Casting for James Wan’s Now Filming ‘Insidious’

Bloody Disgusting learned that Rose Byrne (Knowing, 28 Weeks Later, The Dead Girl, Sunshine), Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy, Watchmen, The Ledge) and Barbara Hershey (Black Swan, Riding the Bullet) have all been cast in James Wan’s latest horror entry, Insidious, which is currently lensing under the title “The Astral” here in Los Angeles. Re-teaming Wan with Saw co-writer Leigh Whannell, the pic follows a young family makes the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further. Fox to Fold Fox Atomic, What’s the Fate of ’28 Months Later’?

It was only a matter of time, but it looks as if Fox is about to fold their Fox Atomic label, which was responsible for a slew of comedies and genre pics including 28 Weeks Later, The Hills Have Eyes II, and Turistas. This would mean that the forthcoming Jennifer’s Body would be released via 20th Century Fox on September 18, assuming the studio doesn’t push it. In addition, the news also confirms that there were in fact plans for a 28 Months Later, the third zombie film in the franchise created by Danny Boyle. No word on what will happen now. Horror Vets Pile On David Goyer’s ‘Unborn’

Meagan Good (One Missed Call), Carla Gugino (Sin City, Rise), Jane Alexander (The Ring), Idris Elba (Prom Night, 28 Weeks Later, The Reaping) and Rhys Coiro (Last House on the Left) are joining a rabbinical Gary Oldman (Backwoods) and a haunted Odette Yustman (Cloverfield) in Rogue Pictures’ supernatural thriller Unborn. Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing writer-director David Goyer’s tale of a girl (Yustman) tormented by the soul of a boy who died in the Holocaust. Good will play the girl’s best friend, and Gugino has been cast as her mother. Alexander will play a Holocaust survivor whose brother’s spirit is returning. Elba will play a priest who helps Rabbi Oldman perform exorcisms. Coiro is the college professor of Yustman’s character, and Cam Gigandet will play her boyfriend. FDM Review: Fox Atomic’s ’28 Weeks Later’

If you head on over to FDM you can read our first of two reviews for Fox Atomic’s 28 Weeks Later, which hits theaters everywhere tomorrow. Lead by director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, 28 Weeks Later picks up six months after the Rage virus has decimated the city of London. The US Army has restored order and is repopulating the quarantined city, when a carrier of the Rage virus enters London and unknowingly re-ignites the spread of the deadly infection, wreaking havoc on the entire population.
