This movie, has to be, one of the most amazing movies i have ever seen in my life. From the opening title scene with Cherry Darling gogo dancing, to the ending with stuntman mike, i was very entertained. And i can say that before this movie came out, i have never heard of a grindhouse movie. Now i will never forget. Planet terror is just a fun, gory, violent movie from start to finish. With some great special effects with the gun leg. Death proof, might have been a little slower, with a lot of dialouge, but when the car chase/crash scenes come, you will be on the edge of your seat. Grindhouse is overall one of the best horror movies of our time, and probably the best horror movie of 2007. You owe yourself to see this one.

An all around celebration for a cinematic past time. Thoughtful homages, yet offers an original take as well. I will say that Planet Terror is the better half, but both films are entertaining in their own way.

    Bring on Grindhouse 2.

Grindhouse was an exceptional piece of mastery created by the Tarantino and Rodriguez duo. Hopefully they’ll come again one day and create another masterpiece equal to this experience.

Grindhouse 2 will hopefully quench my Grindhouse thirst as I always look for quality horror films.

    11/10<- best theatre experience ever.

Grindhouse the DVD cuts of the movies where awesome the theater cuts where lacking what the DVD cuts showed us from if Butterfly gives stunt man mike that lap dance

WTF happens between the time Cherry darling and El ray where doing it and why the F*** was the house on fire

the music is awesome chick habit was a good song to end on THE LAST RACE is an instant classic especially how the opening of death proof is at first about to say “Quentin Tarantino’s THUNDERBO…” then cut to a frame saying “death proof”

Good ol badass old house gore. Let the imagination fill in the blanks. So what if the gore is old tech? It worked and that’s the only thing that mattered. The plot in both movies was well done and copied it down to the suspense. There was a lot of things going on and that’s what kept it entertaining.

You just can’t fuck with this movie. If you don’t like Planet Terror, I have no urge to even acknowledge you as a person for your lack of stimulation to zombies, government conspiracy, prolific lines, murderous chick affairs, sanctimonious testicle stripping, BBQ recipe lessons (blood=salt), and Rose fucking McGowan as a one legged go-go dancer turned appendage arsenal. I could watch this movie everyday and still be astonished at the cohesion of dirty comedy, break your jaw action, and way-too-realistic puss and goo filled gore. Watch it, love it, and thank whatever god you want that Robert Rodriquez and Quentin Tarantino were sent to make films worth screaming over, worth quoting at every approachable moment, and worth the price to give you the best ocular orgasm rivaling Janine Loves Jenna.

The best horror movie ever made hands down. I loved how it was so gritty feeling like back in the old grindhouses. The movies were sweet and really funny. The fake trailers and intermission was the best part about the whole movie. I was laughing so hard. This was the most fun ive ever had in a movie theater. Ya its cool that it came out on DVD but not together and they cut out the fake trailers…Now that pissed me off. I really hope the sequel comes out.

Didn’t get on with Death Proof. The first 3 girl characters were really interesting and the mystery behind the stunt man at the beginning was interesting. Then the crash which was awsome.

BUT…after that it was boring, there was too much work done on the dialogue. All the women acted like Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction, I found them really irritating and pointless. That’s until After the stuntman attavks them then it went up a notch. Other then that I was confused why Tarantino stopped the grind effect on screen, and it was obvious too. The idea was their but I found it weak. But as always he had memorable scenes, like the lap dance scene, and a fantastic soundtrack. It’s worth seeing but I was disapointed. Especially with Mr Russle, I don’t think he’s character was used enough, I liked his character.

Planet Terror on the other hand was fucking fantastic, I advise anyone whos a great lover of horror to see it. It was funny as hell and the characters were well done. It’s not supposed to be taken seriously, none of Grinhouse features are. Can’t wait for Machete!

Death Proof was the greatest film of 2007 i totally say it was a million times better then planet terror(which i think it was stupid and pointless)because of its great scene of the car crash, the girls killing the killer and the cars chasing scene the only thing bad was planet terror and the long dialogue of death proof.(by the way i only gave grindhouse a 10 because of death proof but if i would of rated grindhouse in two features like its soppused to be i would gived it a 5)

This was an incredibly amazing anthology. Death Proof was by far the better movie, in my opinion, but Planet Terror wasn’t too shabby either. I just preferred the more calm yet creepy, anticipation-of-the-kill type atmosphere of ‘Proof’ to the frantic atmosphere of ‘Terror’. Both are great though, and the fake trailers are hilarious, yet seem almost authentic. This is one of the best movies of 2007. It’s a shame about the box office.

    Death Proof:

People think this is balls-to-the-wall punk gore-horror?

    What?

The movie was basically PG-13. No gore, and I don’t think pointless talking is “punk” at all. The serial killer using his car has been done so many times it’s lame. If you want punk gore, go play No More Heroes (Wii). Now THAT is punk gore. I admire the grindhouse feel, but, contrary to this, real grindhouses actually had more than a single bloody scene that isn’t that bloody.

    Overrated by a thousand.

I’ve never seen Planet Terror, but when I do I’m sure I’ll think the same thing.

I loved Planet Terror! it’s by far one of the best films i’ve seen & has became on of my all-time favourite movies. I enjoyed it so much better than Death Proof because i found that death proof had too much story line and not enough action. Planet Terror on the other hand had it all, including comedy here & there which made the movie much more entertaining. Plus putting a chick with a gun for a leg as a main character made it much more interesting.

Kurt Russell is one of the most underated actors of all time, and i dont know why, but he’s always been my favorite actor of all time, there’s just something about him that is fascinating, his role in death proof is such a great fit for him it couldnt have been done better by anybody else, this movie reminded me of how bad ass he can really be in movies, because i dont understand him thinking posedion would be a good movie to be in, that’s probably my least favorite movie with him in it, i pretty much have liked and loved all his performances and films.
Death Proof is no different, wonderfully original and crazy ass stunts really bring an intense thriller to life. great stuff.
Planet Terror, although a zombie film, was done very originally and characters are interesting of course coming from the filmakers collaboration on these two that was obvious before watching it that at least we would have fun interesting characters that talk and a plot that unfolds itself in a fun style . great experience watching these back to back in theaters and the fake previews actually look more interesting than alot of real movie previews (example: “machette”)

A brave attempt by Tarantino to return us to the days of the double bill – just a pity that audiences missed the point!!!!
Rodriguez kicks ass with Planet Terror a turbo charged kick in the nuts of a zombie movie. Rose sparkles, even one-legged. Packed chock a block full of more ideas than ten hollywood horrors.
    Death Proof is merely average.

when i first heard that my two favorite directors, robert rodriguez and quentin tarantino, where going to make a double feature homage to the old exploitation films, i could’nt wait. i immediatly watched as many grindhouse films as i could to get prepared. and it only added to my exitement whin i saw the first teaser posters. a chick with a macine gun leg, and a cool car with a skull on the hood. and when i saw it, it had been worth the wait. when the first faux trailer, machete came on, i knew i would’nt be dissapointed. the first film, planet terror, was awsome. josh brolin was great, michael biehn and jeff fahey were good as always, and tom savivni in a supportin role was fun to see. and rose mcgowen, complete with gun-leg, was sssssmokin! the second was also good, but lacked something. planet terror was what a grindhouse movie should be, fun, violent, and dosent require alot of thought. death proof, however, is slow to start, and has the typical tarantino long conversation scenes, which i personally never saw in an exploitation film. it was still a good addition, with a great preformance by kurt russel. in my opinion, this is the best horror film put out in a while. near perfection.

Very entertaining, stylish. Uh, but the films failed at being exploitation films. If they had Rose Mcgowan naked for the intro, showed the little boy blow his brains out, and had the Deathproof girls gangbanging w/ strapons, then it would be an exploitation film. This was pretend “lets get all the coolest people in Hollywood together and play exploitation film Rob!!!” That was the problem with the film, way too soft for hardened exploitation vets, way too hard for daddy and the little league. That’s why it didn’t make money. I’m sure kids will think this is the coolest movie ever.

‘Grindhouse’ was fun in the theater, but lame on DVD now that the films are split w/out the incredible faux trailers shown in between PLANET TERROR and DEATHPROOF. Speaking of Tarantino and his righteous self–DEATHPROOF sucks. It’s a fucking chat-fest w/ a few cool death scenes. It’s so tedious to sit through. PLANET TERROR is old after the first time you see it.

I generally LOVE Tarantino films, but I absolutely hated Death Proof. Sure, it had a few good scenes, but unlike almost every other film of his, I found it very boring. Planet Terror was some good, dumb fun. 4/10 for Death Proof, 8/10 for Planet Terror. So, 6/10, but I’ll give it another point because of the fake movie trailers that were done very well.

THIS. IS. BY. FAR. THE. MOST. FUN. EXPERIENCE. EVER. I remember seeing this in theaters, the back to back, and loving every f***ing minute of it. The fake trailers the kick ass movies were f***ing mind bending. I will never be able to go back to how I felt in the theater while seeing this.

Planet Terror the better of the two and the much more violent and gorier too. This movie contains a really kick ass cast and is one of the goriest things to hit theaters in a LONG time. It really brings back the grindhouse feeling, taht im not really formiliar with but I do understand, and the little grains and lines on the movie is hilarious and it is really well done.

Death Proof is slower than Planet Terror but is still a good and fun ride. after the first 20 minutes or so the movie turns slower and into alot of dialogue, which i really didn’t care for. I do still respect on Tarantino was trying to bring back the car chase movies he grew up to love and I really did like this movie. The movie really isn’t gory and it wasn’t supposed to be.

The fake trailers just kicked ass period. Nothing else really to say.

This IS a cinema experience and if you missed it I feel bad, but it really was worth it. I highly recommend seeing these movies still, I wish they would make a Grindhouse 2 or something but they probably won’t because alot of people didn’t get this. This was great and I give it an easy 10/10!

Not only could i tell it was gunna be cheese filled but it looked like it had A class gore. the movie wasn’t taken over board. but i feel you have to have a certain humour for it.

and Death Proof is one of my favourite movies now. Its so original and my favourite Tarantino beside Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction.

A Robert Rodriguez film are always excellent especially Sin City.
A Quentin Tarantino movie is pure originality at its finest especially Pulp Fiction.
Put these fantastic Directors together and the end results turns out to be GrindHouse and it does not dissapoint whatsoever.
Check these movies out immediately and watch the beautiful carnage unfold into something some would say ART.

I’m splitting this Review in half for the fact Both “Movies” need to be rated as Individuls..First off we have “Death Proof”, I actually “Love” this Movie, It’s differnt from most of what I’ve seen, I’m not sure I’d call it a “Horror” Film but its definately Pulse Pounding! I also love the fact it takes you Off Guard with it’s set up, a Group of Young Woman, out on the Town, Looking for alittle Fun just happen to cross paths with “Stunt Man Mike” who uses his “StuntCar” to “Hunt” and “Kill” those he finds most Attractive, almost as if the “Car” was his ‘Penis”, He gets his Joy this way! Unfortunately, these same “Girls” find out the Hard way how “Hurtful” His Lust can be!! Btw, the Scene of the “Collision” WTF!! I mean, WOW, Great Effects and the Tire through the head of one of our Girls, I’m still trying to “recover’ from that! Anyways, just when you think, “well, I guess thats that”, along comes another “Group” of Young Woman who like the First, Cross paths with this Crazy Man!! And our Movie becomes this intense, Action Packed Joyride when our “Heroines” this time around, Fight Back!! The Car Chase Scenes are Fantastic, and Kurt Russell Gives a Performance unlike anything You’ve seen from Him “EVER”! The Ending is just Classic, it’s almost like saying “Who’s more Fucked Up” Our Killer or his Hapless “Victom’s” who littery go Ape Shit on his Ass!! I loved It!! Dialog is classic Quentin Taratino if that means anything to anyone who thinks there was way to much “Talking” If you’ve seen his other Films, then you know this is his “Vision” of what he does Best! Overall, this Movie was Fun!! One of the best Times I had in a Movie Theater in a Long Time, I’m just sorry it “this Grindhouse Experience” didn’t do better than what it did at the Box Office, one day it will end up being of “Cult” Status and maybe will be Appreciated for what it is! Great Time overall!!

The most fun I have ever had in a theatre! The fact that this amazing film flopped in the box office is extremely disappointing. Looks like we can look forward to another 10 years before something this innovative and daring comes out again. Thanks movie-going audiences.

Grindhouse=Fun and thats all it tries to do and it does it right. These are the most cliche movies in a long time but that is the whole idea hence the name grindhouse. If you don’t like cheese in your movies you may not like this one but why are you on this site reading what i’m writing here then? I prefer Death prrof over Planet terror but both are good in the won right. Tarantino does what he does best with great dialogue and be prepared there is a ton of it but I loved every second of it.

I enjoyed Planet Terror more than Death Proof, but I still think Death Proof is a great move.

Loved both these movies and love both Tarantino and Rodriguez.

    Reccomend both movies.

One of my favorite films in years by two of my most FAVORITE directors. It is so sad this film was not a financial success at the box office :( I will never forget the epicness of seeing this movie in theaters. I yearned so long for a theatrical USA DVD release and now my prayers are finally answered in the upcoming Blu-ray special edition!

Grindhouse is the coolest thing to reach cinemas in a long time. In it we are treated to two films back to back by two of the best filmakers out there. While both Death proof and Planlet Terror are great, I particularly liked the later, which simply rocks. Planet terror is full of laughs, blood and guts, as well as tons of action. Encore!

I wish I would have gone to the movies to watch these films, but unfortunately I had to wait till the dvd. I like both films but I like Death Proof a little better for some reason. But a very fun experience for any film lover, takin it back to the good ol days. Tarantino and Rodriguez should definitely do another double feature like this. Highly recommended.

Death Proof: Kicks you in the face so suddenly your swallowing teeth for the next hour!

Grindhouse is a pretty decent flick consisting of two features, “Planet Terror” and “Death Proof.” In between films are fake trailers, one of which, “Machete” has been made into a feature itself although I was hoping the trailer for “Thanksgiving” would’ve come first. In my opinion “Death Proof” is the better of the two with Kurt Russell playing a psychotic stuntman who kills women using his car which built for him is death proof. He ends up fucking with the wrong group of girls who turn out to be total badasses. The car chase scene was classic.

“Planet Terror” was an ok flick about zombies. If you love zombie films you will love “Planet Terror.” Zombie films are hit or miss with me but all in all not too bad.

I realize this is probably sacreligous around here but Tarantino sucks. There. I said it. Deathproof was a complete friggin waste of god awful time. He hasn’t done anything worth watching since Pupl Fiction – and even that was half as good as Resevoir Dogs. Boring. No action. A complete waste of time. At least Planet Terror was entertaining. Gross and some humor pulled me through. Not sure why people are wetting themselves over this. Skip it! (only gave it 2.5 because of Planet Terror. I’d have given Deathproof .5)

Put simply Grindhouse is not a movie that stands the test of time. when I first saw it I absolutely loved it i also was however very messed up. I thought it was fun and creative and just plain awesome. Now a few years later and sober I found the film to be entertaining, and clever but a little forced and over the top. The attempts at actual grindhouse filmmaking feel a little slighted. Rodriguez’s planet terror is the more fun of the two but definately lacks the showmanship and wit of Tarantino’s death proof. The film’s feel a little murky and at times are just plain bad instead of it being intentional. All that being said it’s all in good fun and still a fun, innovative watch but sadly not on par with what you would expect.

    DEATH PROOF
It may be not Tarantino’s best film but it’s at least a really fun and worthy tribute to all the 70s carsploitation flicks. Though it’s much too long and filled with waaay too many dialogue scenes, I pretty much enjoyed it. It’s packed with loads of great settings, cool-looking cars and stunning performances from terrific actors (most notably Zoe Bell, Kurt Russell, Vanessa Ferlito and Tracie Thoms). Like in every QT movie, the soundtrack is just fabulous (incl. excellent songs from The Coasters, Joe Tex and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich), the camera work’s wonderful and the editing’s just brilliant (R.I.P. Sally Menke).
Highlights: all the deliberate errors (jump cuts, sound errors, the replaced title insert…), Stuntman Mike’s first appearance, the outstandingly brutal and gory car-crash kill, the black-and-white scene and the awesome car-chase finale.
    – 7/10 –

    PLANET TERROR
Hell yeah, “Planet Terror” totally delivers. It’s a wonderful tribute to all the 70s and 80s zombie movies (especially to the European ones, like “Nightnare City” or “Hell Of The Living Dead”), action-packed, fast-paced and extremely entertaining.
It’s packed with gallons of glorious over-the-top gore, tons of kills, executions and disembowelments, and loads of ugly and really nasty zombie-creatures. It’s fun and thrilling, but also quite atmospheric (incl. a few cool Carpenter-like fog scenes). There are many great dialogue lines and one-liners
(“Where’s… the… shit???” / “It’s go go, not cry cry.” / “I like the way you say ‘fuck’. – “Good. Fuck you.” / “I’m gettin’ my dick wet.” – “She’s only got one leg!” – “Easier access.” – “Oh, that is a good point!” …),
the cast is pretty great (Rose McGowan, Josh Brolin, Jeff Fahey, Bruce Willis, Tarantino…), the kinda-80s synth soundtrack is just fabulous and the whole look of it (grainy pictures, deliberate errors, scratches…) is just awesome.
Highlights: the machine gun leg, Willis’ and Tarantino’s deformations, every single gore scene, the boy who kills himself, the syringe scene, the ‘balls’ collection and the amazing finale.
    – 8/10 –

    The FAKE TRAILERS
    – 9/10 –

“Grindhouse” is like a sucker punch to the face. It’s a throwback to a section of horror/action film that I don’t technically admire or enjoy; exploitation. Yet here we have directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino putting the exploitation film to darn good use. And yes, I enjoyed it.

“Death Proof” is Tarantino’s contribution; a horror spoof which skewers the slasher genre by introducing us to a sadistic, perverted “lady-killer” named Stunt Man Mike. But get this: he seduces hot woman and kills them in his stunt car. How cool is that!

Then comes “Planet Terror”; Rodriguez’s film. The film mostly centers itself on a go-go dancer who turns into a vicious fighting machine when a virus triggers a zombie apocalypse onto the world. Her leg gets bitten off; and she replaces a mere stump with a “high-power machine gun”. Again, that’s pretty cool.

So if you want exploitative violence and fun galore, check out “Grindhouse”. You can see both films together- along with some fake trailers to set the good ol’ Grindhouse mood- if you buy the Bluray package. For those like myself who favor the DVD and always will, you’ll have to watch the films separately and without the trailers. That’s not as fun; but it’s still worthy of your time either way. So why not take the ride?

    Simply amazing.

Planet Terror is an awesome b movie zombie flick that includes some dark humor and some cool over the top action sequences.

Death Proof is dialogue heavy… but if you’re a Kurt Russel fan or if you like a nice build up before the mayhem, you’re in for a real treat.

Grindhouse is one of the best cinema experiences you can have these days, showing 2 good horror movies (the gross zombie movie Planet Terror and the dialogue heavy car slasher Death Proof) in grainy quality and with hillarious fake trailers. I also recommend watching Planet Terror with the audience reaction track, which gives it even more of a feeling to sit in a cinema in the 80s.

I’ve seen Death Proof and Planet Terror, aka Grindhouse, about a dozen times apiece. Man, this is the stuff I live for. These movies stand up to repeated viewings due to the detail the filmmakers have injected into each and every scene. I can only imagine that everyone involved in making Grindhouse had a BLAST. The finished product really shows that this is a labor of love. For me, Death Proof has the slight edge just cause I like muscle cars. Actually, Death Proof is a muscle car fan’s wet dream. Full of action and sexy as hell, a must see. Highest possible recommendation. More stuff like this please, Rodriquez and Tarantino!

Hands down my favorite movie, because it’s not just a movie, it’s an experience. I was really bummed I didn’t get the chance to see it in the theater. But, once the bluray came out (a shocking three years later) I bought it and I watch it religiously now. Great directors for both the features and fake trailers, and everything’s gleefully over the top. It’s just a fun movie to watch because you can tell they had a blast making it.

Tarantino and Rodriguez have created one of the most enjoyable movie going experiences to come around in a long time and I solute them for it!

I loved Death Proof and Planet Terror… my 16 year old cherishes his Grindhouse Planet Terror Tarantino replica from Reel Toys… It was a hard choice to give it to him for his birthday a few years back, he makes me proud, though, it’s displayed unopened with many other horror collectibles. I loved Planet Terror’s over the top gruesome feel, and of course that muscle car thing had me going, and wasn’t that Lucy Lawless’ Stunt double?? Both flicks fall into what I call my “crucial classics” list. The must have in your personal collection.
