We finally get a worthy follow up in RE movie series. Most RE fans (fans of the games anyway) don’t really enjoy these movies, and I understand why being a fan of the games myself, but at some point you have to throw that shit aside and just take it for what it is.
This movie, is one of a very few, and I mean VERY FEW, where I honestly enjoyed the opening credit scene, the opening scene, and the ending. The movie was a blast from start to finish.
The acting was sub-par at best (except for Milla who is always something special), but the action, stunts, and effects more then made up for the lack of good actors. The 3-D was actually good, but since it was filmed in 3-D rather then post converted like “Piranha 3-D”, I knew it would be much better.
The fight scenes were awesome. The Executioner was quite menacing, short lived screen time wise, but fun none the less to watch. The fight scene with Wesker was pretty on par with how he fights in the actual video games (RE:CV and RE5 anyway)so that was a nice treat, but they need to explain a bit more. There were zombies in the movie that were definitely influenced by the “Las Plagas” from Resident Evil 4, but they mentioned nothing of it.
Also something else that kind of irked me was when Chris and Wesker finally come face to face, no mention of them ever knowing each other in the past ever is brought up. I guess that is something they are delving into in the movie series, which then brings me to my next point: In Resident Evil 5, when they make it (And they will make it based on the ending to RE:A) will Chris and Jill know each other? Oh yes Jill is in this movie. It also makes me wonder who the main villain will be in RE5.
Regardless of all the Game to Movie blunders, RE:A is a fun film, complete with great action, awesome stunts, good 3-D and Milla. Anything with Milla has to be somewhat decent in my book. I am sure there will be plenty of haters, but in my opinion, they finally delivered a worthy sequel for this franchise. Like what “Saw VI” did for the SAW franchise (gave it new life), I am hoping fans will appreciate RE:A in the same way.
just got back form the midnight showing, def a fun movie, not the best movie and def not the worst! i think it was the closest to a RE game than any the previous ones in feel. very good film, def worth the watch
I totally dug this movie from start to finish. There are some slow scenes, but only to introduce or bring back characters. The action is top notch and littered throughout. Anderson gave us want we want, hot chicks chillin zombies, and thats what we get. Cant wait to see what we get next.
And make sure you stick around after the cast this rolls.
The Neg- some slow down time, could have benifetted from about 10 more minutes of footage, and a tad bit too much slo mo.
The Pos- TONS of action, some good gore scenes, clever jokes, hot chicks with guns, hot guys with guns, GREAT 3D, and ZOMBIE DOGS!!!!!
one word: awesome!
I think this is also the first zombie movie in real 3d!! (not post converted 3d)
Well MR.D you were wrong. By a long shot. This movie was brilliant, and made for what IMAX is made for. The action was relentless and insane, and this time around, they actually added stuff from the games. Alot of stuff, even a scene straight from the games between a special someone who fines a special someone. It’s so kickass. Also we get the dude with the big ass AX just like in RE:5 and holy shit is he awesome. We get a scene with wesker that’s straight out of RE:5. And has to be one of the best fight scenes I have ever witness on screen in a long time. And believe me he will be having more screen time next time around. Look for a special scene that’s like the ending of cloverfield. For those that have seen CF you’ll know what I mean. Jill holy fuck Jill, is just like JILL from RE:5 I saw her AND MY JAW DROPPED. I was so impressed on how they nailed it. Chris was badass, he looked sort of like him. Not to bad. Ummm we have alot of stuff from RE:5 in this movie. SO FOR THOSE BITCHIN ABOUT THE MOVIE NOT BEING LIKE THE GAME. Well assholes here it is. And if you still bitch saying it’s not like the game. A. your not a fan of the games. And B. Your just plain out not there in the head.
the plot, like MR.D was saying there was none. Well there was, it wasn’t like an inception plot. But there was one, every movie has a plot. Even if it is paper thin. But come on we dont’ see these kinds of films for plots. We look to dramas or smart films for plots. Not laced up leave your brain at home kind of movies like this.
The acting was like the other resident evil films. Not that good. Even though milla does a great job as always, ali was pretty good, the dude from prison break was actually pretty good. But quilloy nailed it she was really convincing.
The action…. lets make this short from start to end never a soft moment. And the slow motion scenes worked great in this. I think this was best one since one. And it had an amazing kick ass ending. Can’t wait for 5 and 6.
GO SEE IT.
By far the absolute BEST in the franchise. I loved it! Great action, and the CGI creatures actually looked really convincing. I didn’t find one dull moment. The Executioner fight was amazing….as was everything else! Milla was fantastic as always. I’d see it again in heartbeat. The ending…HI JILL. I can’t wait for part 5!
If you are a fan of the series or the video games, please just go see the movie right now. It is seriously the closest the movies have ever gotten to the movies. from everything to the executioner (RE5) to the wesker battle (RE5). this movie was thrilling and breathtaking from start to finish. the beginning is a little slow after the first wesker battle but it ensures you that any freakin rediculous story line that the 2nd and 3rd movie brought in…they are done. no more. and i was relieved. The movie had its thrills and scares and it had tons of action you will never be bored. the 3D is fantastic and beautiful. Resident Evil: Afterlife is the best of the series no doubt. It is so much better than Apocalypse and Extinction combined. The ending will make your jaw drop. do not leave once the credits start because there is an extra scene a minute after the credits begin and you will be in complete awe.
DO NOT MISS THIS CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE. ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE A FAN OF THE GAMES / MOVIES!
Anyone looking for what to do with a franchise should look to these Resident Evil films. Now I know everyone may not be a fan of the series like me. But despite the ridiculous moments these films keep evolving and no one can deny the sheer creativity that each new chapter takes. This time around the action starts off in Tokyo when Alice and clones attack the Umbrella corporation demolishing it. Wesker just nearly escapes and without ruining lets just say Alice barely does too. So with the destruction of the evil enemy she sets off to find the friends she told to save themselves in Alaska but upon arriving all she discovers is a slightly psychotic and memoryless Claire. So she heads back to LA where she comes across a new band of survivors including hunky Wentworth Miller and decide to face down giant axeman, new monstrous zombies and etc. I say all that with a winking eye as to not ruin any of the films many surprises. Paul W.S. Anderson is very happily welcomed back to the director after two entertaining and creative but ultimately generic sequels. And he brings his sensational euro style with him. The film is beautiful looking saturated in dull colors, and lots of interesting camera work coupled with too many amazing, awe inspiring slow motion scenes to count. He also filmed the movie with the 3D cameras used to film Avatar and the results are sensational. Although I must say I’m not a huge fan of the 3D experience and generally and would prefer to just enjoy things the old fashioned way. But I have nothing against that glorious IMAX presentation. The costumes are great, the action is taut and the techno metallic score is back. The movie is even scary in some part but the film is far from being flawless. I’m not sure why the film is burdened by idiotic moments such as a basketball player displaying a sports talent to save a falling aircraft, and such a small amount of character development and too be completely honest all the slow motion does get a bit tedious after a while. But despite those flaws it’s an entertaining, extremely stylish entry in the serious. Fun and creative with a finale that promises a very welcome and bright future for the franchise.
It’s simply an amazing film that doesn’t disappoint. It may not be Citizen Kane but it’s damn close to being it.
Are you serious? Or is this just one with a bad taste in movies posting under different nicks? Paul Anderson is that you? The whole RE movie franchise is utter crap!
The 3D saved this movie. Its basically like Avatar, the story sucks and its just eye candy. Its definetely fun to watch if youve liked 3d movies. However, they really need to reboot it and do it the way it shouldve been.
I loved this movie. Visually, it was beautiful. The plotline was a little thin but it relied on the viewer to come into the theater prepared and not expecting to be spoonfed the backstory. (Which was refreshing). I didn’t feel the music was distracting, as Mr. D said it was. Also, Mila was just stunning (as usual).
I did find it amusing, however, the basketball star saving that plane all by himself. I know it’s a zombie film but even I’m not able to stretch my brain that far. I also felt the ending was abrupt and a bit tacked on. Last complaint: I felt they should have focused more on Alice’s human side, since they went through the whole ordeal of making her that way anyway.
Overall, excellent movie and a MUST SEE in 3-D.
Abso-freakin-lutely unbelievable in IMAX 3D. Definitely my favorite Resident Evil so far. I’m gonna concede that, while post-conversion 3D works when done well (Piranha), you really can’t beat the 3D in this flick.
Really fun movie. The Executioner kicked major ass, the 3-d was awesome, and the action was plenty. Definitely the best one of the series, and I hated the 2nd and 3rd ones.
i dont hate anderson as much as ppl on the net seem to. i loved the first; 2nd and 3rd were eh. but this was just fun. mr disgusting isnt wrong when he says its a feature length music video. but i cant really see how that’s entirely a bad thing. ive always loved the music in these movies. i liked the “wannabe” nin music. tomandandy did a great job, just as mansell and manson did before them [fuck apocalypse's soundtrack].
eye candy is what you WANT when you drop that extra $ for 3D and Imax. sure its characters where kindof flat and the story almost non-existent, but we’ll get all that great stuff with Walking Dead. for now, feast your eyes.
If you love the RE films, there’s no reason you won’t love Afterlife. I do, and am a big an Paul W.S. Anderson’s films in general (love me some Event Horizon!), so I drank it up like there was no tomorrow.
And Real 3D was used correctly in the film. The movie is never overwhelmed by the need for everything to seem three-dimentional. But what parts are shown in 3-D look awesome, and frequently, you don’t even notice how subtley the 3D is used to enhance ashes floating or mist billowing around.
The story is a natural progression from where Extinction left off. It starts off with Alice and her new friends trying to track down the head of Umbrella and give him a lil’ sumpin’ sumpin’ in the form an ass-kicking for what the evil parasol corporation has done. The ensuing battle at Umbrella’s lair is spectacular, even if Anderson channlled a few aspects from other sci-fi/horror flicks (i.e. The Matrix).
After kicking some ass before getting her own smacked by hte head honcho, Alice resumes her search for the survivors of Extinction in Alaska. After finding a lone addled Claire Redfield, Alice begins searching the West Coast for any signs of life. This leads to a small band holed up in a former prison in LA, where Alice discovers the secret of Arcadia. There’s even a slight ‘surprise’ character from the video games introduced for the sake of the die-hards. (Sorry, it’s not Jill returning.)
In Afterlife, the battles scenes feel more like a survival/horror video game than just about anything else in the movie series, complete with “boss” fights.
If you really enjoy RE, rush out and see the latest installment. If you’re ‘meh’ on the movies in general, you probably won’t like it much better than the others. But it really is a fun, exciting, visually stunning film. And apparently the jump scares are all perfectly placed, because the girl three seats over screamed in horror every time.
Excellent addition to the best best video game adaptation franchise of all time, and my second favorite of the series! Lots of totally kickass action, fantastic visuals, great 3D, and awesome characters. This film delivered everything I was looking for, I freakin LOVED every minute of it, and Milla Jovovich is amazingly awesome!!
Very entertaining movie, great 3D visuals and packed with alot of action. As the others have said ignore the whinning from BD, this is not suppose to be Masterpiece theater.
Y’all buggin out….
Another terrible Resident Evil movie and the worst part is it sets up another one to come.
It was fun but minus the 3D it’s my least favorite in the series. There are some great action parts but not really sure why Alice had to lose her “evolved powers”, seems kinda odd. Over all entertaining, but besides Alice the humans are pretty lame and boring.
I thought the movie was hecka cool only complaint not enough scares
First things first: I’m glad I didn’t pay to watch this.
Secondly: 3D gives me a real headache.
Resident Evil Afterlife has such a ridiculously opulent opening – zooming in and out of the Earth with the friggin titles elegantly gracing the screen from the foreground to the background and vice versa, to the point where it’s ostentatious and I’m being told that ‘THIS IS 3D!!! YU RIKE?’ But I have to say that visually this is the strongest entry into the series. No doubt when it’s 3D, you gotta make every single fu**ing shot counts. So the composition of much of the film is good. Those ‘elementary mistakes’ reviews mention relate to continuity, of which there is f**kup aplenty.
Best 3D shots, imo, linger at the beginning during the first 3 minutes or so. . .
The story, as always is nonsensical and hodgepodge. At the beginning, Albert Wesker (played by Roberts to what I’m certain is the best of his ability here) wants to destroy Alice and her clones because she is the project ‘that didn’t quite work out.’
‘I used to be like you, but better.’ he tells her. It’s like two hookers fighting over turf.
By the end of the film he’s got an entirely different agenda altogether, which would logically have been put into effect during the events of Extinction but couldn’t have been because he had no idea wtf Alice was up to. It’s worse than a videogame.
The one thing that was an improvement was a change to Alice’s gung-ho superhuman status. Wesker injects her with some mumbo jumbo serum early on which makes her human. At last – conflict! But no – Even without her psychic abilities, Alice has no problem defying gravity and being superfast and invulnerable. Am I wrong in saying that not even Paul Anderson understands the character he has created. If he doesn’t give a shit, then who the f**k will, amirite?
The dialogue is so revolting (even for generic action flicks) it makes Paris Hilton sound like Charlie Kaufman. Some really shit dialogue, seriously. ‘Shouldn’t we get the f**k out of here before we get eaten the f**k alive?!?!?!’ . . . I rest my case. I’m glad the dialogue was kept to a minimum. Wentworth Miller does a good Chris, yes. But he just looks like a janitor and nobody believes for a second that him and Claire share blood, man. No way. At least part 1, 2, and 3 had some characters I actually didn’t mind – like Oded Fehr who has to be the most sympathetic human ever to be involved in these films.
The rest of the film takes us from set piece to set piece (the final of which is the most well designed) in which confrontations get sillier and sillier and winks to the source material gets more annoying than ever. The action is notably amplified/helped by the fact that this is 3D, but is actually not that spectacular at all when you watch it in 2D. Run of the mill stuff. There’s a countless barrage of shit that flies out of the screen. Ninja stars, bullets, creatures, fireballs, Alice, etc. It’s a gimmick that gets old after the first few sequences – set to derivative riffs and which is all it seems tomandandy were required to come up with. Nearly every action sequence echoes something you’ve already seen.
Although the fight between Chris and Wesker (Claire doubling for Sheva) is a pretty flawless recreation of the sequence from the RE5 cutscene, I heard someone murmur ‘Matrix’ in the front of the cinema. Guess they already saw that movie.
It’s literally part music video, part video game, part special effects showreel – but not an ounce of anything creative to suggest that I’m watching a piece of cinema. It belongs on a 97 minute rollercoaster ride, because I got bored after the pattern of 3D, dialogue, 3D, dialogue, 3D kept on and on and on.
On the whole it’s stupider than part 2, not as bleak as part 3, but makes part 1 look like a real achievement. With a budget of nigh 60,000,000 you will be able to tell where the money was invested and you will probably know why. This is a film for teenage boys who like guns, emasculated chicks, slow-mo crapfests, and explosions. Unfortunately, such things bore me. It’s a taste thing.
This film ends openly, shameless really, – paving the way for the next shitpiece which I hope will not be a sequel in a new trilogy but will be the final installment of this terrible franchise.
They shouldn’t even be called Resident Evil. They aren’t adaptations of the game and aren’t remotely evil. Paul Anderson – you need to get someone else to write your material. Or just die.
0/5
We had thought we would have seen them all , another Resident Evil film , Like the lead character in the film (Alice) these movies won’t die. They keep making more and more after another. But this one does have a little more Edge and wit then the previous entry’s the director from the 1st one (which is probably the best of this dragged out series) Paul W.S Anderson , and this time he is bringing his nice big 3D camera with him. Like every other film coming out in this Day and Age. Its in 3D. But Resident Evil was Made for 3D so it was not as bad as my expectations were going to be. The film does have a fast-paced running time the film flows very nice and smoothly. Unlike Machete which felt like it went on and on. The 3D is impressive in this movie i will admit. Some of the Blood-Spattering scenes did keep you on the Edge of my Seat. Which was pretty neat. But this “Evil” is not the best of the series that Honer still remains to be the 1st Resident Evil.
The film starts off with Alice (Milla Jovich) who is trying to breach the umbrella corporation and bring there entire operation down. Once and for all. I mean how long has she been trying to bring them down , What 4 movies now?. Anyway as she infiltrates the lair she use’s her superhuman ability’s and kicks some major ass. After she receives Radio Transmission that there is a place untouched by the T-Virus. She heads that way only to find a bunch of abandoned planes. And Clair (Ali Later) Who does not remember a thing that happend to her and their friends. Desperate and trying to find sign’s of life , as circling L.A she finds a group of survivors that have taken refuge at an old abandoned Prison. Where she finds the group who are desperate to get out of there. But with the gates keeping them safe are getting destroyed and with thousands of flesh eating Zombies.
My Main Problem with the film there is little or no Plot Development at all. We get very little information about some of the characters in the film. Also we get no history as to who the main Antagonist is. Or the huge bulging buff Zombie with a hammer the size of “Texas”. Little details like that make all the difference. There really was not that much “Zombie Mayhem” if you will not as much as the previous 3 films. There is a soft but yet pro-longed build up to some mere reasonable Zombie Mayhem and in 3D no less. The actors are not that good either most of these actors are cheap B-rated material that could not get a better gig. I felt that most of the leads were under casted and maybe could have been better personal to fill the positions. Mila Jovich i guess is a good example her voice get very annoying after time.
Overall Resident Evil is not for the faint of heart and not really for me either. I Found the movie enjoyable and had fun with it at times. The 3D scenes were pretty neat so in that department i feel i got my money’s worth. But if your looking for good acting , good story and Awesome Directing. This film is not for you. But if you just want a laid back easy and forgettable Zombie killing movie , then maybe you should rent Zack Synder’s Dawn Of The Dead. But if not this film fits the bill. Im not giving a high Recommendation for the film mainly because of acting and plot development. But you need to see the film for what it is which is the 3D. So for the 3D i would say see it in theaters. But other then that really there is no need we have seen these movies all before its nothing new.

Thanks For Stoppin Buy.
I went to see RE4 during the midnight show on Thursday.
I walked in expecting a visual feats of the best 3D you’re going to get, by all the hype that was thrown at me. I wasn’t expecting a logical story.
ANd sure enough I got all of that!
Ladies and gents, this is honestly the best 3D you are going to get in a film right now. I loved seeing Wentworth as Chris I didn’t care about the dodgy dialogue the adventure was fun! And that’s what this was about! I loved every minute of this film. The idnustrial score was very catchy and my favourite sequence was the rooftop sequence and the finale!
All in all great popcorn fun!!!
Bad Ass movie. It was extremely fun, the effects were terrific, the 3D was great, and in general the movie was awesome!
VERY VER FUN MOVIE possibly the best in the serious all though i hate the 3d gimmick
The 3D was amazing! Milla was amazing and kick ass! And the action was amazing! This one even made me jump 3 times, where as the others I don’t think I ever did.I still don’t know if its my favorite in the series even with the 3d. I think 3 still holds that but it is an awesome, fun movie and a very worthy entry. With the ah ending I can’t wait for 5!
That was amazingly bad filmmaking. “fade to black/fade to black/fade to black…” It did get better when they landed at the prison, but that didn’t make the movie worth my $11. At twenty minutes in, I checked my watch. Not a good sign.
You are either a fan of RE movies or not, I am and love the movie for what it is shlock and fun if you need to be intellectually stimulated maybe you need to watch another movie because this isn’t it. It is for horror and action fans; which I am.
Went on opening night for this complete mess of a movie, atin vurd, you say I don’t get this because it’s for horror and action fans…well I’m both, and this movie blew, 3D was average, opening scene was complete ripoff of Matrix SLIGHTLY. Milla is so HOT that I was able to sit through it, and that ending, firstly, did I see right, they ran outside with their pistols in hand shooting at a ship flying away…Ohhhh, almost got him. And Milla knew she had explosives on it, so why freak out and shoot.
I swear Paul Anderson has ADD or something, Mr. D was pretty bang on in his assessment of this flick, and Anderson, praying it would do well, gives us another dumbasss cliffhanger, to give us another crappier sequel in 3 yrs from now, which will once again have no direction. Oh yeah, and Milla surviving that plane crash….OK.
My brain hurts.
It was okay, not the best. Better than the last 2 they released. Pissed me off that Wesker’s part wasn’t bigger and they didn’t even try to explain the las plagus at all, just threw in some people that were infected and had them start atacking.
So yeah, it was okay but not a movie that I will be watching again anytime soon.
Also, it was SUPER anti-climatic, the final fight was really short and abruptly cut off more or less.
I say this one IS the best in the series so far, followed by part 2, then the first one, then the third one in last. I think the dumbest thing about the whole series was Alice and her special powers and her clones. Who cares about Alice? She’s not even from any of the games, so why should she be the main character? At least I can stand Alice in Afterlife. Finally, they decided to bring in more elements from the games. Only took them four movies to get it right, but when they got it right, they did it well (except for the Chris Redfield dressed like a janitor thing). I was hoping this would be the last in the series, but after seeing it, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one.
This is probably the only horror series that I don’t listen to the critics negative reviews on because I usually don’t agree with them when it comes to the Resident Evil franchise but I should of listen this time. They did nothing interesting with the story and if they did it didn’t work like for instance the 3D technology was very flat to me as well as the acting, action, suspense and pace even the freaking zombies were lame and weren’t used that much at all talk about no thrills man! This has to be the most distant one from the game and is the dullest one because I found myself dosing off through some scenes, there weren’t even jump scares that I can remember which made the movie even slower. Why can’t this series get a grib and actually be completely faithful to the game series for once because the games were so much scarier, suspenseful, smart, action packed, and full of adventure and mystery and has a much better and involving story and characters than this junk, they blew it this time! This movie should be fun, exciting, scary, action packed, thrilling, smart, witty, suspenseful, full of atmosphere and mystery and though I do give it the atmoshere part because it does look nice but it doesn’t have the other elements, it just was a dull and lame experience. Overall Milla and Ali look hot as always but this series needs a serious reboot and a new director because this one didn’t give the game justice and made it too high tech and The Matrix like and made it into a hot mess and laughably bad. Not recommended! 1.5 out of 5 stars.
Kick-Ass action in the latest 3D technology. Probably the first movie that I really liked the 3D effects in. Milla was great as ever, and I can’t wait for part 5
this film was ok i enjoyed the action but the story was lacking in areas epecially with wesker, he was nt in it that much i like how they refered to the latest resident evil game with the dogs and the axe guy but in the other three films the zombies never had things coming out of their mouth and yet they do on this one 3d saved it in my opinion but still could have been a lot better.
Oh man! Why the hell is everybody gushing over this piece of shit!!There is so many things that bother the fuck out of me about this movie, I won’t even get into them.I even like Extinction better, and thats sayin somethin cause I hated that one too!Just end this series now before you guys shit on it even more! I’ll stick to watching the original and Apocalypse instead and I think you guys should too. Don’t waste your money or time with this film.
Okidoki. I saw this movie two days ago now and after the EPICALLY EXPENSIVE ticket prices, I wasn’t disappointed but I wasn’t overly impressed either.
As usual, if I’m planning to see any horror movies at all, I come to Bloody-Disgusting to check the other reviews. Seeing as this one was mediocre I thought I’d give it a chance.
ANYWAY. i’ll start with the good points.
Milla Jovovich is stunning to watch; she’s a good actress and totally kicks ass in this movie. The action sequences (which were far between) were pretty decent especially in the genuinely decent 3D technology that everyone’s getting boners about.
Now the bad bits. The action was took AGES to get to and there wasn’t enough.
None of the characters were likeable in anyway (apart from Alice obviously and the black basketball guy, I don’t know why I just liked him). The siblings, Claire and Chris, were annoying and plain boring.
Now, for a movie loosely based on a video game about ZOMBIES this movie sure lacked ZOMBIES. There were a few scenes where you could see hordes of them but they looked shite up close and didn’t really get much screen time compared to the boring speaking scenes which provided no real character development anyway. Speaking of zombies, there was literally no gore at all. I know horror movies don’t need shit loads of gore but zombies rip people apart. Nothing…not even a papercut.
Well I just finished watching the film and I was very pleased. Even though the 3D effect was a nice touch, I’m sure it still would have been just as enjoyable with out it.
First I’ll start with the 3D. It was rather good and not over used like some movies tend to do. Of course you would expect to see weapons, knifes, bullets, and stuff flying in your face but they didn’t use to much of that. The 3D feeling was more real in that your surroundings came at you. The walls, the ground, fog, water, and mist is the 3D. It was perfect. Isn’t that what 3D was suppose to be about? More subtle and ambient that you don’t even realize it unless you focus on it. Just like real life. It was nicely done. The environment was nice and beautiful. Open in some parts and then claustrophobic in others.
Next, the story does a great job with figuring out a way to use all of those “Alice Clones” properly and not over do it. They use them just long enough to pull you in and then do away with them before it becomes to much. Also they were clever in how they use the clones as well as how they got rid of them. It does have it’s twits and they are rather good.
Moving on now, I would like to flat out explain to everyone-
(everyone as in all the people who spent more time bad mouthing the films but call themselves RE fans)
-why this movie looks the way it does. Well, the films obviously are influenced by the games and also follow the games. This film is heavily compared to “Resident Evil 4 and 5″. I found it silly that the majority comments online were about this film being a “Matrix” rip off. Please go back and play Resident Evil 5 and then change your answer. But people will be people.(It’s also no surprise that a lot of fans hated the idea of Alice having telepathic powers. That’s probably because those fans never played “Resident Evil-Code: Veronica” and actually shouldn’t even be considered fans at all.)This film does hold a strong connection to Resident Evil 5 with both looks and feeling so please stop comparing it to another movie.
Finally the characters. Alice is of course the main star and does a great job again but she’s not the same Alice this time. She’s more human in
a sense. Much like the Alice in the first. Claire is there along with her brother Chris in his first debut and a few other survivors. Wesker, the bad pill in the games, also makes his debut appearance.
At the end we are given the hunch that there might be one more film on it’s way. And to also add to the cliffhanger, shortly into the credits we see an appearance of someone that is both special and important to the games. If you played “Resident Evil 5″ then you will completely understand this short cameo for what it is. Now does that open the door for another film or does it just leave the door open but to only be touched by our imagination of what’s to come?
Some of the best 3D I have ever seen! (Then again I haven’t seen much). Although these movies have lost most of their “Horror Appeal”, I’m still drawn into the series. I thought the “Executioner” was the best villain in these movies yet. Definitely the most accurately portrayed anyway. The thing that gets me though, is that, the effort put into the storyline is so minimal. For example: The relationship between Claire and Chris, who are suppose to be brother and sister (Only it added nothing to the story). When you hold these movies up to the games, it makes the series seem pretty blah. But what they do manage to do, is bring a visual ride that somehow keeps getting my money.
The way 3D should be done and a worthy sequel to the Resident Evil sequel. This series has never been about great acting, amazing plots, etc. It’s always been about flashy action. If you like the series you’ll love this, if you want something a little more deep, definately avoid.
Milla HOT Ali HOT 3D Great still dizzy walking out of Theatre!
Once again it’s Milla time! And once again it’s time to dive into the wonderful world of ‘Resident Evil’.
It’s the fourth part and… yeah, it’s about as entertaining as its 2 predecessors. Of course, like every movie from this series, it has its flaws: the plot is unbelievably lame and nearly all of the characters are paper-thin and uninteresting. Apart from that it’s great fun and exactly what I expected: packed with terrific fight and action scenes (including lots of fabulous “Matrix”-moments), great-looking zombies and mutants, wonderful post-apocalyptic locations. Some brilliant cinematography, the 3D looks mostly outstanding and Milla Jovovich is simply a goddess which gets more and more beautiful with every film.
Overall a highly enjoyable cinematic experience; a must-see for RE & 3D fans!
Just Seen This In my local Apollo Cinema in 3D, Apart From the Obvious Rip/offs (i.e. Silent hill and The Matrix). I Quite enjoyed it. I Do Believe That Paul WS Is Becoming another Uwe Boll But without the Shocks, Res 4 was void of shocks and gore, and i for one will look out for Res 5 on dvd in the future.
It ain’t the English Patient, and I wouldn’t go see it if it was. Lots of Fun, nothing profound.
This looked insane! Paul W.S. Anderson did a great job. I hope that there will be more Resident Evil films in the future.
wow, talk about being blown out of the water. After the abysmal re: extinction I went into the theater with less than optimistic expectations, and I must say that there might be hope for this franchise to redeem itself after all. While it’s not going to win any Oscar’s for acting or script, the cinematography and effects of this movie was stunning and the action was really cool at times. While not trying to spoil anything here, humanizing the Alice character a bit was a great move IMO. Also, this movie is a lot more faithful to the original video games.
FUN movie. Not much of a movie, however. More of just a fun, and very entertaining trip. Looked like it would have been awesome in 3D, however, we don’t have a 3D theater so I was forced to go 2D. Very fun and entertaining nonetheless, check it out.
When I rated the first part, I stood up for the movie’s decision to take (in a reasonable way) as little as possible from the game (e.g. no giant snakes in the chimney) — and I still think so. Yet I am fond of this fourth part with all its (more or less elaborated) game characters and tons of Umbrella stuff.
Somebody unfamiliar with the games may wonder about that unexplained big guy with the hammer-axe, but a fan welcomes the Executioner as an old acquaintance. Same with Albert Wesker and so on…
What else? Milla Jovovich, 3D, several Millas in nice outfits, a so-so storyline, a hot Ms Jovovich, great visual effects, looks and music, did I mention Milla?
And, of course, a decent cliffhanger — but be honest: Resident Evil 5 or Twilight 4?
Oh gosh K-Dogg, Milla surviving a plane crash…gee whiz, Fantasy for Dummies 101… ah,??? “Fantasy – an unrealistic and impractical idea”…courtesy of the Encarta Dictionary… wow, what a surprise in a fantasy film… an actual implausible occurrence in the story… (rolls eyes) – I think some people need to separate fact from fantastical expectation. The film is what it is, a film….
I went in the theatre with big expectations, but somehow the film dissapointed me.The 3D was not as good as I thought, but it had some good parts. The Executioner part was very good. 6 out of 10.
I’ve never walked out of a movie before, and this is no exception. But only due to the fact that it was a streaming watch on my computer so I was at home and didn’t feel like leaving.
They should let me rate lower than 2.
Milla at least doesn’t have her Gameshark on, at least not as many codes entered. Also they ruined Chris, thanks guys.
Paul W.S. Anderson apparently played RE5 since las plagas and the executioner are present but why?
WOEFUL. This is the first ever movie I have ever walked out of. The first few minutes of 3D rain amongst a crowd of umbrellas was genuinely very clever and beautiful but the action was over the top or just boring. Acting was overall extremely B-Grade and there was no suspense or fun/scary zombie moments. Very disappointing.
Jesus Fucking Christ people? It frightens me that there are people (lots of people actually) who find these movies entertaining.
This bullshit is laughable right alongside Uwe Boll’s House of the Dead, and that’s being kind. Just because some studio gave them a budget, doesn’t make it any less retarded.
It’s bad enough that the movie is terrible, but the thing came out twice as long because of the need to slow mo every damn scene.
I cannot loathe this enough… what the hell is wrong with some people?
Wow this movie was horrible. Im so glad I waited to rent this instead of going to the theater. The last Resident Evil sucked so I really didnt expect much in this one and it was what I expected. Nothing like the game as usual but just had name references and some characters from the game (big hammer guy). Overall pretty bad.
I can’t call “Resident Evil: Afterlife” cinematic art. I also struggle calling it a good movie, considering how much I hated “Apocalypse” and strongly disliked “Extinction”. But in the end, that’s what it is. Even away from its three predecessors, it stands on its own as a decent film. What’s better about this entry in the franchise than the previous two installments is that it returns to the sleek, metallic feel of the first film, which I enjoyed quite a bit. I found most of my favorite parts when there were no zombies. The dialog was surprisingly good considering how cheesy these films are known to be. No, the acting wasn’t top-notch, besides Milla Jovovich and Boris Kodjoe. Ali Larter was ridiculously bad, which came as a bit of a surprise (I actually like a lot of what she’s done).
What I really enjoy about “Afterlife” is, despite the overblown budget, fx & 3D (which I didn’t see, as I saw this for the first time on Blu-Ray Disc, not in 3D), it feels like a much smaller production than the other three films. The prison scenes stand out for me as introducing the slightest bit of character development I’ve seen for the franchise since the first film. The smaller number of characters is also a breath of fresh air. While I could understand complaints about the 3D, which I’m militantly against, I do disagree with what most say, that this was only made to look at and basically has no plot. Personally, this film had my favorite story of all four movies.
I’ve stated in my review for the “Saw” films how I like when a franchise evolves into something completely different than it started out as. The “Resident Evil” series has done that monumentally in only four movies, all of which have been completely different in style. Each film gives a new way to look at one of the most famous zombie apocalypse stories ever. Any scene with water was fun to watch, the smoke was a bit overwhelming, the tunnel scenes were okay, and the lighting was pretty spectacular. So yes, “Resident Evil: Afterlife” IS partly an immensely overdone visual presentation. However, the story is more realistic and down to earth (for a zombie movie) and the characters are more likable than at least the previous two entries in this growing franchise.
Once again, I can’t call “Afterlife” a beautiful film. I even struggle getting out ‘film’ for this. But it is a damn fine and fun movie, and it serves its purpose, which is all it needs to do.
This is a good addition to the Resident evil movie series, it really makes you think at the end of the movie how the hell could/will (if they do make another one) Alice get out of the new situation that this movie represents.
im at a loss of words for this one…….oh no wait here’s a couple…fucking garbage.
This was an awesome movie. I hope they make another Resident Evil because how this one ended!
This review will assume that you are a fan of the Resident Evil movie series and not honestly looking to see how this film ranks as a piece of cinema when combined to others films in the genre.
Taking place some time after the previous film, Afterlife starts off with Alice and her clone army (Wow I just called them a Clone Army) shooting and exploding their way into the Umbrella underground facility located in what was once Japan. This serves to set up a brief encounter between the real Alice and Wexler, which in turn has him injecting Alice with something that effectively neutralizes all of her awesome super abilities.
From this, we have Alice searching for survivors and ultimately a showdown with Wexler.
As with the previous few Resident Evil movies, the focus has moved away from Survival Horror more into the Action-Scifi-Horror paradigm. While there were a handful of jumps, this continues to be a franchise which moves more for large action set pieces, that jump scares.
Fans of the Resident Evil video game series get a few treats as we see the return of Claire Redfield and the introduction of her brother Chris Redfield. While both feature plenty inside the story, this is still a movie about Alice and her struggle with Umbrella and Wexler.
There are a handful of amazing set pieces, including a wicked battle between Alice and Claire and an Executioner creature. While no explanation is even attempted to explain the Executioner, it does little to dilute the fun of this struggle. It is moments like that and the fight scenes with Wexler, that really showcase why not only do they keep making Resident Evil movies, but that they continue to be worth watching.
The payoffs are there to fans of the video games and fans of the movie series. So if you came here expecting to see more of what we have already seen, with a slightly larger body count and series of explosions, then Afterlife is for you. For me it was an easy purchase and may be my favorite film in the series since the first one.
In 3d this movie was visually amazing. The movie itself was far better than the last two installments, but the movies have changed in tone and feel from the first one.
This movie did not live up to what I wanted based on the trailer and the fact that Paul W.S.Anderson returned to direct this one. It runs short and does not explain anything going on.But if you dig the series than watch it. The action is still good.
good movie.
I honestly loved this film. If you liked the other resident evil films, you will for sure like this one. Excellent action with excellent effects. A must see!
This movie was definitely not what i had expected it to be, from the previews, but i did enjoy it a lot. Milla Jovovich continues to play her role as Alice amazingly, and i would love to see another movie in the film franchise eventually. I was very surprised to find out that Alice loses her powers at the very beginning of the movie and that was probably the only part of the movie i was a little upset over, since Alice and her powers were a big part of the last two films, also, where did the big man with the hammer come from? Was he a character from the games? I never got to play the R.E games for Playstation so I don’t really understand that part of the movie, but i could never give my favorite zombie franchise of all time anything less than 5 skulls so i would definitely recommend this movie to anyone familiar with the first one or anyone that enjoys good old zombies
Has anyone heard if they are making another film down the road? It would be nice.
When i first saw this I was pretty disappointed. Story and plot were put way behind the pretty awesome and astounding 3D visuals. Really great effects for sure However, this proved to me that films are just getting lazier and more half assed as the franchise continues. For me, this is the weakest entry in the series so far. I’ll probably still check out the next installment.
Not great but i’ve seen worse still worth a watch though.
I carry a big disappointment with this film, is very bad, a piece of crap, and 3D technology makes it even more ridiculous.
The previous films in the series seemed poor, but this does not make sense at all, is definitely the worst of all, does not encourage any sense unless the leave as soon as possible to the cinema.
Another thing, stop with this stupidity of 3D. I just want a good horror story, suspense, well directed, well acted and with good effects but mainly well placed at the right time, none of that has this movie.
Is exaggerated from every point of view, and the story better not waste time talking about it, this type of film the whole time I was saying, oh no, no, no, or not again, stop.
Well Resident Evil:Afterlife is a great addition to the series. Extinction wasnt good so I was reluctant to see Afterlife when it came out but then one night I was bored so I decided to go see it to kill time. It was fucking awesome! I really enjoyed it! It’s the best RE sequel for sure. I give this movie a 10/10. Fans of the videogames and the other movies would really love this one. I highly recommend it.
This movie sucks!!!!! uwe boll could have done a better job.
my 2nd favorite in the series it beats 1,2 but not 3
Very enjoyable action horror film.I saw it in 2D and can tell it would’ve been better in 3D.The plot is full holes but it’s Milla kicking ass so check it out. This series has been consistently fun to watch bring on part 5!
Better than the 3rd but still a shit sandwich.
Awful movies. Nothing even remotely like the video games…
This is one those films that I always go back and watch again and again. This is by far the best Resident Evil film since the original! It has the scares the tension the feeling of being able to relate to the people that you hope won’t die. This movie is just awesome and you don’t need to see it in 3d to realize how great this movie is!!! Shout out to Chris and Claire Redfield–This is a Must Own Movie!
