['Evil Dead' Month] Meet The Deadites!

One of The Evil Dead series’ greatest assets is its host of Deadites, possessed humans who want nothing more than to possess more humans through vague, ever changing means. Some are humanoid, some are monstrous, some are trees, and some are goats. But all of them are awesome. And while they don’t make much sense and lack consistency even within individual films, we love them all the same. Especially the goat. Here is our rundown of Deadites from the entire Evil Dead series, excluding all videogames, comic books, and fan fiction. But including Drag Me to Hell because c’mon. READ MORE

The ‘Evil Dead’ Films Ranked From Best To Worst!!!

I wanted to start Evil Dead Month off with a bang and I figured there’d be no better way to do that than to lay my cards out on the table and rank the films in my order of preference. And I’ll say it – I fully expect some of you to hate me after this, because I make one choice that I’m sure 99% of you won’t be down with. READ MORE

5 MORE Horror Movies With Amazing Endings!!!

When it comes to endings, sometimes you’ve got to take the advice of Jesus (as played by Jerry Cantrell in Jerry Maguire) and hang your balls out there to be great. So while all of these endings are awesome, most of them aren’t exactly happy. It’s not that I’m against happy endings, but often they clash so harshly with the film’s overall tone and theme that you just know they’re tacked on compromises. READ MORE

Take The Expanded Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! How Do You Rank Now?

We have heard your cries! MANY of you felt that the The Ultimate Horror Challenge wasn’t comprehensive enough! So we included an additional 20 films that round it out a bit more. Many of these are from your suggestions! But this still isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. And it still doesn’t contain every major work of every horror auteur (there’s still no John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). READ MORE

Take The Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! What’s Your Score?

This isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Nor does it contain every major work of every horror auteur (you’ll notice we didn’t include John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). Rather, this is a compendium of films that we feel – in one way or another – are essential viewing for every horror fan. Some are mainstream (Poltergeist), some aren’t (Cannibal Holocaust). It’s a broad sampling of key films from the genre. READ MORE

Update: Mandate’s ‘Cineplex’ Killer Comes to Life

Update: This long gestured project from literally years ago is from Jake Wade Wall. Originally set up at Universal under the title ‘Anguish’, inside you’ll find a synopsis. Pajiba, a site that’s struggles with accuracy, is reporting that Mandate Pictures (The Grudge, Drag Me to Hell, The Strangers) is developing Cineplex, a movie based on a pitch envisioning the horror movie as the next Scream. It’s about a group of teens watching a horror movie who are taken by surprise when the villain of the film attacks them in real life. Sounds like the exact same plot as Jack Messitt’s Midnight Movie, no? Either way, it’s a fun premise I think I’d enjoy as a big budget fare. (more…) READ MORE

Best & Worst of 2009: The Year’s Best One Sheets

Before any footage from a film is seen, typically a teaser or full one sheet is released by a studio. This is an incredibly important, even detrimental process as it is the first thing the consumers will see and identify with a movie. If the poster stinks, the consumer might write it off all together, while a good poster could lead to them checking out the official website, trailer and best case scenario, hanging it from their wall (the most personal relationship any of us have with a movie). To say the least, posters are damn important. As part of our year end coverage, we present to you the year’s best theatrical posters. (more…) READ MORE

One Helluva Annoying Fly in Second ‘Drag Me to Hell’ Clip, Third!

Updated: Third clip also added. May 29th is coming upon us faster than we can keep up, and the anticipation for Sam Raimi’s big return to horror with Drag Me to Hell is through the roof. Universal has already begun screening the film to thousands of people (for free) and TV spots are airing non-stop… I think it’s safe to say they’re confident in their product. The question is, will the general public show up, or just horror fans? Hopefully word of mouth continues to propel this Evil Dead-esque masterpiece into something of legend. Universal has started unloading clips this week, but I want to stand firm in my belief that you should go into the movie having seen NOTHING. But it’s your call, read on for the second clip featuring an annoying little fly. (more…) READ MORE
