Horror In Your House: June 7, 2011

This week is light on big names films, but does feature some solid choices led by Exorcismus – which is the latest and best of the possession movies released of late. Tokyo Shock is back with another ridiculous movie with Psycho Gothic Lolita. It seems there is a never-ending supply of cheap batsh*t crazy flicks from our friends in Japan – which I consider a good thing. And ‘80s Italian horror lovers can watch some kick ass looking zombies by picking up Burial Ground, now out on Blu-ray. Have a great week everyone! (more…) READ MORE

Special Feature: Real Exorcism Case Studies Part 2

In anticipation of the release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Rite, a religious horror film opening wide on January 28th, we now present to you part 4 (the second of this segment) of B-D’s ongoing series on exorcism. In this article we put the spotlight on two more real-life cases of alleged demonic possession, one of which inspired author William Peter Blatty to write The Exorcist. The other is a much more obscure but nonetheless just as sensational incident that occurred at a small Catholic school in South Africa during the early 1900s. Whether you believe in the Devil or not, both are fascinating case studies that should at the very least send a few shivers down your spine. (more…) READ MORE

Special Feature: Real Exorcism Case Studies

Opening January 28th and starring Colin O’Donoghue and Anthony Hopkins, The Rite – based on the book “The Making of a Modern Exorcist” by Matt Baglio – tells the story of a young American man studying to become a priest at the Vatican who finds his faith through his encounters with demons. In anticipation of the film’s release, this third article in B-D’s series on exorcism focuses on two real-life occurrences of alleged demonic possession and subsequent attempts to expel the “evil spirits” from the bodies of those afflicted. While the two cases – both of which occurred in the mid-1970s and one of which was the basis for two different cinematic interpretations – both resulted in tragic deaths, they are nevertheless fascinating examples of the exorcism phenomenon and its impact on the lives of ordinary people. Best & Worst of 2010: The Year’s Worst One Sheets

The task of selling a film is probably much, much harder than any of us realize, which is why posters meant to stir up excitement for upcoming releases are often so badly calculated. 2010 has been no exception, with a large number of god-awful (or just plain boring) one-sheets cluttering up the lobbies of multiplexes all across the country.
