This movie starts off full speed ahead with a flashback of young Mary murdering her family in their home, action and gore galore.
Flash to the mental institution some years later where Mary is being held because she cant stand trial due to reasons of insanity.
Enter a fat gross mental ward worker who is taunting Mary asking her if she wants to “in his words” Goo Goo Gaa Gaa his Loli Pop.. and in my words “UM EW”.
She is raped and a child is conceived.
The child is taken away she gives birth then Mary breaks loose and kills the staff ,then after the carnage she is standing out front of the institution holding the severed head of the man who raped her she is gunned down and killed by the police.
Now flash to what they call Blood night where teenagers celebrate the night that Mary killed her family.
You have a bunch of obnoxious teens talking about their penises ,getting laid and terrorizing people with eggs, tampons dipped in red paint and other delightful gifts. The parts that are suppose to be funny actually are ..There is a lot of female flesh for the guys to drool over and that adds to the retro feel.
The middle slows down quite a bit and I got a little disinterested but it picks back up again when Graveyard Gus played by “Bill Moseley” of The Devils Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses fame shows up and takes the remaining teens to the mental institution to reunite Mary with her dead baby because he was the one who knows where the box was buried. There is a twist but I saw it coming a mile away as for the gore it’s pretty old school and over the top..Danielle Harris of Halloween films fame has quite an interesting role in this movie as well.
Some of the gore is done well some of it not done so well.As a slasher lover not affiliated with the film in any way I would say give it a watch It’s pretty good..”The piano in the soundtrack sounded a bit like a rip off of Adam Greens Hatchet, but that’s just my opinion.
It won’t make my top 10 of the year but it’s worth being in my collection and I’m sure I will pull it out again one night and watch it again..
Blood Night is a decent attempt. the story is pretty basic and not hard to follow. it starts off with a flurry of blood, murder and rape to set up the legend and then we meet the kids who go party and everything goes wrong from there. pretty basic setup for a slasher..so how does it fare? the acting is horrible, but you knew that, right? anyway..the blood and gore are fairly decent for a movie with a low budget. i liked the kills, pretty brutal in nature and some just kind of come out of nowhere. they are definately over the top with blood shooting everywhere. some were creative while others lacked. Bill Moseley and Danielle Harris show up and i enjoyed both of them. (Danielle played a bigger part then i originally thought). some of the dialogue was funny with the kids but most wasnt. i thought mary hatchet wasnt really scary, i mean come on, its a naked chick trying to kill you…wtf?? overall it wasnt bad, had potential but ultimately falls a little flat. if you love slashers, check it out as the body count is pretty high..but for anyone else, borrow it from a friend.
not too bad actually. very low budget, and the acting is nothing special. but the kills are the main reason to see this. the opening scene was awesome and brutal as balls! the scissor through the mouth death was hilarious. worth a view or two, maybe with some friends and a little “herbal influence” to help out haha.
i thought it was pretty good my self.
I thought it was a pretty good slasher flick.I had it down but didnt know if I would be right but damn if I was! Even down to the p.m.s. But I loved it and enjoyed seeing one of my favorite genre actresses take on a little different role!(w/o giving too much away) My only complaint was the picture.Too dark at times. But definitely check it out if you like slashers.
Not a great movie but I enjoyed it, a cool low budget horror flick. Worth seeing with some friends at a halloween party or something.
Entertaining. Most of the gore and effects were very well done. The acting wasn’t amazing but wasn’t so bad you’ll turn it off. Its a decent slasher check it out if your a fan of the slasher genre.
I want my brain cells back. NOW!
I was tricked into watching/fast forwarding through this because I saw that Danielle Harris was starring.
WOW!! Predictable and ridiculous story with no pace, character development, or even good make up.
I will say it was not as bad as Laid to Rest.
This movie was awesome, I know it has a lot of blood, and lot of nudity, and it was also really scary movie. Mary Hatchet is like way to scary, and I love this movie. I know it was a mystery, because they’re trying to find out where’s Mary’s baby. This movie was awesome!!!
This is one trippy slasher with an acid pace and ferocious violence and gore that will make Victor Crowley from Hatchet blush. The story, acting is senseless and laughable but for a b-horror movie it could of been worse, my favorite though is Danielle Harris who is always good in these type of movies and is sexy as always. The suspense is non existent but there were a couple of good jump scares here and there but this film seems to be focused more on blood and sex than anything and is more consistent at that than any horror film in theaters right now. I liked how it had a backstory to the killer Mary Hatchet but it showed her too much too soon that there was no terror or suspense to be had and it kind of played against the picture but it looks like Victor Crowley has found a future mistress. This film has a very retro look and feel to it that reminds me of slashers of the 1970′s and early 1980′s and that’s one of the film’s charms, the whole atmosphere seems to have been taken right out of those decades even the actors. I also got a Rob Zombie vibe from it too which isn’t a bad thing but it was also very jumpy and skittish when it came to the filming which got on my nerves fast and some of the lighting was too dark a blurry that you couldn’t sometimes tell what you were seeing. In the end though it was still just a pointless, brainless but a bloody fun slasher flick nostalgia. Overall the gore, nudity and Danielle Harris made this movie and without them then this flick would of completely sucked donkey balls. A good flick to watch drunk on halloween night with your buds. More of a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Bloody Night is your typical teen slasher film that really has little to set itself apart from other films in the genre. It starts out promising enough, showing a young girl kill her parents for seemingly no real reason. From there we see her brutally raped by a night security guard, before losing her child during labor. This all leads to her going on a killing spree at the mental hospital, before being killed by police. 20 or so years later and the town now deals with Blood Night, a strange, macabre celebration where kids prank adults and deface property. When the bodies start stacking up, it appears as though Bloody Mary is back…
When I see a horror film stars Bill Moseley and Danielle Harris, I have a heightened expectation, as both have been in numerous solid horror movies. Having said that, this one featured terrible dialogue, one dimensional characters and bloody effects that were simply stupid. By the time this 80 minute film is over, you will realize that you don’t actually care about any of the characters and that what little potential existed here, has been squandered by a poor plot.
I wanted to like Blood Night, I really did. Instead I was left bored and out the money I spent buying this dvd. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
I have to say, I love this movie.Oh, and I’m not going to summarize the plot. If you want that, their are other ways, but not through this review. Actually, let me start out by pointing out that, despite what info box next to the picture says, this movie was released in I believe either 2009 or 2010. But I’m leaning more towards 2009. It’s just recieved a widespread release this year, but it was released years ago. Also, that’s not the original cover. the original can be found easily, just search “blood Night legend of Mary hatchet”. The one’s with a shadowed out nude woman holding a handheld hatchet and a severed head is the original. But as for the actual movie,it’s awesome. It’s a great compliment to the legends of the 70′s and 80′s horror movies. Everything has been seen before, yet better. ish. for example, instead of the tires in the car randomly being uninflated, it’s shown that two teeanger’s puncture them out of jelousy. The lighting is perfect. Unlike many modern films, the action is never blacked out by an unnatural shadow, while still maintaining that creepy atmosphere (many scenes were shot in real locations, such as the graveyard scene, and the asylum). Plenty of suspense, the villain(s) are distubing, especially(spoiler warning) in the scene where Mary’s daughter actually kill’s the guy who flirted with her. She brutally castrates him, before planting a pickaxe in his head. The creepy part is watching her expressions while she does this. speaking of which, Danielle Harris is amazing in this. sexy, scary, funny, this girl does it all! Honostly, you could describe this movie the same way you describe her. Aside from Mary Hatchet spending 97.9% of her screen time nude, their are numerous sex scenes and sexfused scenes. The kills are so disturbing that their occasionally almost funny. It treads the fine line between horror and comedy, though this movie is not a comedy. Bottom line, buy an original version. This new one, wow not as awesome (in any way) is accceptable I suppose, but buy a version. Buy it. Don’t rent it (even if your local video store is just getting it like mine is). but it. twice! For what it’s worth, I’m currently planning on buying the blu ray. I don’t know if it has any extra features, but even for bragging rights, this is so worth it. Buy it!
A decent slasher that serves up a great helping of TnA and gore… and that’s about it. A quick, fun trip down that familiar path that’s sure to entertain most fans. Does what is expected, but it could’ve done more.
Not as bad as you’d expect. Worth a watch if you get the chance.
Hobo Approved(TM)
Certainly an entertaining slasher. This film is full of violence, gore, nudity, and yes…sex. I wasn’t expecting much from this one, but the first 10 minutes makes this film worth a watch. You can watch the next 45 minutes without playing much attention…but then pay attention for the last twenty minutes for some awesome kills. Worth a watch for sure.
After a somewhat inspired and lethal intro sequence before opening credits even appear, things turn into run-of-the-mill teen party carrying-on for-ev-er…and then there are some decent kills and done. Great to see Harris headline, but kind of a limited use of her talents here, really. The beginning and end are alright—the main body of the movie is garbage time to the point of WTF (outside of some skin o’rama). No suspense at all—just blood and violence.
I Love this Movie Danielle Harris did excellent job playing Mary Hatchet Daughter Alissa the killer in this. And Bill Moseley also did a great job playing graveyard Gus. Hopefully I hope they make a sequel for this 5 Stars/Skulls!
A fun modern slasher with plenty of gory kills and T&A. Although the film never really lives up to the fantastic opening sequence, it’s still an entertaining blood soaked romp.
Despite this getting some hate, I really enjoyed this movie. Pretty much everything you want in a slasher movie, with some nice gore, cool kills, and some pretty good looking girls. Along with a pretty cool background story of the killer. And did I even mention Danielle Harris and Bill Moseley? Could have used a bit more of them, but still I like their parts. But to finish this off, this is an awesome and fun flick, if you love slasher movies like I do, then give this one a watch. Now grabs some friends and have a good time.
