Faces of Death: 30th Anniversary Edition

2428-poster

It began as a graphic exploration of the one destiny we cannot escape. It would soon become the most controversial, critically reviled and fastest selling documentary in home video history. Parents tried to stop it. Video stores had to hide it. Yet across the nation, millions found ways to secretly watch it…if they dared. Renowned pathologist Dr. Frances B. Gröss is your guide to the most bizarre and grisly death scenes ever recorded, from executions, assassinations and mass murder to suicide, disease and disasters. Three decades later, is it hardcore gross-out, elaborate hoax or still the ultimate forbidden movie? One thing is certain: you will never forget the original FACES OF DEATH!

I totally agree with what Tex said. I saw this with a bunch of my friends back in the day one night and watched this and we almost shit our pants. We were like how could they be filming all of this shit and not get in trouble for it lol. But now I just found out from Tex’s review that it was all fake. Oh well. I will say though it was one hell of a shocker for a 12 year old to see.

    Classic movie.

  • ChrisV

I like animals so i’m not a huge fan of this movie. But it is entertaining. I knew this was fake before i watched it so it may not have hit me as hard. Worth a viewing.

what can you say about faces of death ….i guess that your curiosity as a child struck you and you had to see it?Its shocking disturbing mostly the animal scenes, and real car accidents, war,and on and on…give it a go if your in the mood…the yucky mood.

To be honest, this movie was a very interesting and the history to this movie gives it a god like status, so to speak, but the movie lacked any true interest to be brought to it after you find out everything in the movie is fake, except for the slaughter house scene. The movie started off good with great potential but then it got boring after about a half an hour and some of it is extremely fake and at no point was I truly disturbed or shocked. The fact that it’s a video nasty is really the only reason y i saw it, but it is not anything special and it is all hype, which is hype you should not buy into. But all in all I would give it a 5/10 because of it’s history it brought and it was an okay movie, apart from being fake and BORING!!!!

  • Slaser Maniac

the movie is disgusting in many ways it has actual animal butchery and nasty bloody realistic executions. i liked the movie alot. if u like extreme movies then this one is for u. it fits right up there were cannibal holocaust is in its extremnest. see it

An icon of 70′s gross-out flicks!!! I’m proud to have it in my collection o’ horror. It reminds me of something that Dave Mustaine once said: “Without death, life would be meaningless don’t ya’ think” !!! The circle of life spins non-stop everyday. It is the reality of things, so embrace it, don’t deny it!!! You gotta’ kill it to grill it!!!

  • Mayhem

If trash is your thing then this belongs in your collection based on it’s infamy alone. Does it live up to the hype, I don’t think so, unless you’re squeamish in which case there’s a behind the scenes look on how many of the fx were pulled off. Yes they’re fake, for all those who still insist this edition will lay it all to rest, it’s all fake.

  • googoomuck

Really sick movie by far, this movie made my friend become a vegetarian,so you can learn from this movie.Everything in this world man-made can kill you. love this movie.

I hate about the discussions about this film whether if its real or not. If one would listen intently to the narration of Director Conan Le cilaire aka John Alan Schwartz, then one would understand what he is trying to say about the audience concerning mankind.

By using violence (whether real or not), then the viewer will have a solid idea on the director’s epiphanies about the human anatomy, the force that pushes some to suicide, animal cruelty, and the different perspectives of man towards death, depending on their occupations and experiences.

I can say that Faces of Death is worthy of its classic status. And its somewhere in the list of the goriest movies ever made. Although, nothing beats Philosophy of a Knife.

I like this film but it was gross. I told my mate about it and he puked. Gored up and this shit is real. No props, no fake blood and no actors. This shit was filmed on real dates in real places and in front off people everywhere. This film shows the exploits off real grossed out Home Videos. Previously Banned in places for the shear terror off people jumping out off buildings and into trains. HORRIFIC. Leaves you with sleepless nights. This is true Horror. And if this was bad enough they made another 5 sequeals. I hate this movie for one reason. It shows you how far people go to catch a Horrific incident on camra.

  • MattHorror

classic in all its goreyness even if it is fake.

  • PreachersBrew

This creeped the crap out of me 17 years ago. Now I have the VHS box set and it realy helps tone down a party for the people that have no clue what thay’re getting into.

  • murdermakesmecum

christ when i saw this i shit my pants. i could only have been 7, maybe 8 yrs. old. then i was the kid who showed it to everybody and got my ass kicked by everybody’s parents, and teachers. i had to go to counseling. i took it all like a man and now i find out it’s mostly fake? oh well, it is still fucking awesome to watch!! why can’t we review Traces of Death? is it all fake also?

  • The apathetic viewer

First off faces of death gorey? Are you kidding me?I liked it because of its style but still like traces of death better partly because of the realsim and partly because showing a bear eating a steak isn’t gorey its just cheap.I know it was supposed to look real and not glossied up but the people who made cannibal holucast do it better then these idots could.

@Person below No traces is all real shit

  • LoneWolfx

    Fake and boring.

  • crazyhorror

Icky, Violent, Nasty, disgusting and scary sometimes at most moments. Faces of Death is one of the nastiest horror films that were banned back in the 80′s. This movie is really impressive and it is one of those films that can cause nausia and mass hysteria like Lucio Fulci’s movies. Faces of Death is everything for a horror film and a Mondo film as well. The great things about this movie is that the film has an intense sequence on every scene where we witness various animals getting slaughtered badly and we also see accidents in the film. One of my toughest decisions with the film is that if the film is real or fake because some scenes in the movie look fake at most moments but some look realistic. Faces Of Death is also a movie that captured the brilliance and beauty of Controversy like Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Salo due to it’s intense and grotesque nature with gruesome consequences. Because this is a film that will squeeze air out of your body and you will have a hard time breathing towards the entire film from start to finish for witnessing lots of death scenes that are either nausiating and gross at the same time which can cause mass hysteria. One of the best moments about this film is how the violence looks. The violence in this movie is incredibly what I like to call true art because of how realistic the gore is in the film. Almost each scene will make you barf and nausiate at the same time due to it’s graphic nature and violence. Plus the movie also has some good things and the great things about Faces of Death is the camera work and style. The camera work in Faces of Death is so stunning and impressive because the film itself looks more of a documentary video tape than a horror movie because of it’s unique and impressive camera style and work which makes Faces of Death an impressive movie. This movie usually has everything and I have to say that the movie is fantastic, brilliant and amazing as well. This is a film that will make you nausiate and barf at the same time and this movie is not for the faint of heart and if you have a weak stomach try not to watch this but if you have a strong stomach and you can watch violent movies like The Saw films and you can handle them then this is a movie you have to watch it’s also one of the most challenging exploitation films that people will watch now a days not only Lucio Fulci’s movies but these films as well. Overall Faces of Death gets a 9/10.
