I really really wanted to like this movie. I thought it was going to be an awesome monster movie in the sky but man was I wrong. If it wasnt for the really shitty acting this might have been a decent monster flick. The pacing was also really bad and you didnt see much of the monster. As I watched it I tried to get past the fact that the acting was horrid but what sealed the deal on this piece of crap was the ending, OMG so bad. Chalk this up to another big disappointment. Please stay far far away from this movie.
Don’t listen to this Brad Miska dork. I have lost any respect I had for this guy after he gave Paranormal Activity 2 such a good review. Trust me Altitude is about 100 times better than Paranormal Activity 2. I hope nobody gets on here and backs this guy up so you can be on his good side because this nerd isn’t going to give you any favors in return.
I will have to say I disagreed for paranormal activity 2, but I 100% agree with altitude. It sucked! It was boring it was unbelievable and the ending was so damn redickulous ! He was kind givi it two skulls. I agree altitude was an epic fail!
Not a bad movie, and Ia really loved the monster. Too bad you didn
I guess I am going to be the odd one here when I say that I really enjoyed ‘Altitude’. I didn’t expect to after reading Brad’s tweets, but I was wrong. With all the horrid remakes and sequels taking over film-making these days it was a nice surprise. The few things I didn’t like was the meathead of the group calling a mechanic Bin Laden. Racist much? The acting was on about a C level but overall ‘Altitude’ was entertaining, and the monster was hella creepy. I do wonder, how does an octopus? monster get that high up in the air? Did it have wings? Wings would have been SICK!
I thought the movie was great fun, and the monster rocked. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending, but overall quite enjoyable.
This movie sucked…it had the potential to be something good, but it just never got there……and for the whole flick, I wanted nothing more than to kill that douchebag wrestler. Fuck, was he annoying.
Worthless
(for some reason it won’t let me give this movie less than two)
Kind of a let down. Cool monster that really has no purpose in the movie. I was curious to see what the director Kaare Andrews (of the awesome Spider Man Reign comic fame) would do with a movie… and a little disapointed in the end result.
Poor dialogue and acting all around with effects that straddled the line between terrible and passable.
Plus about a half hour too long. Would’ve worked quite well as a segment from an anthology though. And I didn’t mind the ending too much.
Great looking monster, everything else is crap. I ended up hating every one and wanted them all to die horrible and violent deaths.
You’ll want the jock to die because he’s the generic asshole jock. You’ll want his girlfriend to die because she’s the generic girl losing her shit over the situation. You’ll want the guy who brought an acoustic guitar to die because he brought an acoustic guitar. You’ll want the weirdo wimpgeek who freaks out to die because he’s a weirdo wimpgeek who freaks out. And finally you’ll want our lead heroine to die for being stupid enough to date such a weirdo.
I really wanted to like this movie, but there’s not much to like here. Cliche’ characters, crap dialogue, a horrible twist, and an even more horrible ending. Watch it just to see the Lovecraftian monster.
This was a legit movie.
I mean one star, really? come on. This is a solid 2.5 star movie at least in my opinion, is it great? hell no. Is it entertaining enough that you don’t have to keep looking at the time? Definitely.
Had potential to be great as everyone said. Creature is fantastic. Story (albeit badly executed) is interesting and fits the short run time.
All the hype around the leading female characters is misleading. Both are mediocre actresses in a cast of mediocre actors, they do not hold the film on their shoulders as has been said. What keeps you locked into the film is waiting to see the goddam creature. The initial cocktease sighting is what keeps you watching.
Finally,it was implicit that the ending wasn’t a dream.
Not bad, not good. The effects were very well done for a direct to dvd movie. The story was also good BUT it was poorly executed and some of the actors really sucked the big one. Nice twist ending even though I knew what it was going to be half way through lol
I’m not sure where all the negativity toward this flick is coming from, but I am an avid horror fan, and I thought it was fantastic! Taking a cue from the filmmakers of yesteryear, the writer has written a screenplay that relies more on suspense and tone then blood and CG, and for some reason he’s being slammed for it? I thought the acting was top notch, the directing was killer and the CG (when on screen) was awesome! If you’re a fan of great storytelling, I highly suggest this flick.
If only they had tried to make well thought out ending /: i enjoyed this movie, almost all of it, but the ending “twist” is just too ridiculous and stupid that i couldnt help but lose all the interest i had in this film. Everything from the acting, the effects, the sound, the directing, the story telling; was awesome. But the ending tries to be interesting and surprising but its just so pathetically dumb that i had to lower my score by a full skull. 3/5 based on the entire film but 4/5 for everything before the “twist”
*noss!
Will keep this short and sweet. Shit acting, shit effects, Shit plot and waaaaay too much thunder and lightning. People who suffer with Epilepsy should keep this one at arm length or up your meds before watching. Was left with a massive headache and the sudden urge to eat my own feet?? Is a movie supposed to make you feel like this. Piss poor in every way…
One of this year’s biggest disappointments. I was sooo excited about “Altitude” because the trailer just blew me away – sadly this movie is actually a horrid and mindless snoozefest. The acting is lame, the 5 main characters are horribly annoying and almost unbearable. The dialogue is so stupid, it’s ridiculous. The script was probably written by a 3-year-old. It’s boring, tedious and stupid.
1 point for the awesome-looking monster and 1 point for the scene outside of the plane. The rest’s just bullcrap.
MrDisgusting hit the nail right on the head with the end of his review … ‘ the third act “twist” is so goddamn preposterous that it’s hard to even finish.’
I watched this with high hopes, and right before that ‘twist’ I was like, ‘Well it wasn’t what I hoped, but it wasn’t a complete waste of…’ then it happened, and I threw up in my mouth.
Jessica Lowndes is very easy on the eyes. However, no one in this movie can act.
I really wish I could give it a 1.
not bad, not good. But a decent watch. The whole reasoning I definitely didn’t see coming so that was good. But nothing WOWing abt this movie but if your bored its ok.
90 minutes of people screaming at each other on a small plane while being picked off in single file by a creature created by one of the character’s absurd mental abilities. This was a teen drama masqueraded as a Lovecraft inspired horror film. Your given a cliched cast of; the jock, the geek, the hot girl, and the smart but sexy girl, and by the end of the film you discover that everything you just watched really didn’t need to happen in the first place.
This was quite the ambitious little thriller and quite an impressive first feature from director Kaare Andrews, I’ll give kudos for that! The characters were suprisingly layered and had substance and weren’t that annoying as I thought they would be because you care about what happens to them, the acting was also surprisingly decent. The special effects though sometimes not that great were also pretty impressive for a first feature film, the story’s twists is the one thing that got me the most and made the film rise above most sci-fi/thrillers that are direct to dvd. Overall if you like movies like Frequency and The Mist you should be able to find something to enjoy about Altitude. Recommended. More of a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
I was worried after reading some of the reviews on here, especially the official site review… but Mr. Disgusting could not be wrong in my humble opinion.
Low points of film: Some of the writing is a little eh, and not all of the acting and special effects are the best…
High points: A LOT of originality, more suspensful than I would have expected, great camera shots and cuts, and the twists were a lot of fun and not always expected especially the big reveal at the end… the movie felt very “Donnie Darko-esque” and it was a strong story, and though I hated how cliche the characters felt in the beginning, I grew to like them far more as their characters started to be given some depth…
I would warn viewers not to read but to maybe skim some of these reviews as some of them give away spoilers…
I am excited to own this at some point and would def recommend to others. This is not a horror film, at least in my eyes, but more a broader genre supernatural thriller drama with its cast having teen flick elements to it.
Yes this was a direct to dvd, low budget sci-fi/horror release. No one should expect these types of films to be the greatest movie they’ve ever seen. Now with that said, this movie was good. I watched it knowing that it was a low budget, direct to dvd release. The acting was good and the storyline was unique. I didn’t think this one was bad at all for what it was. Give this one a shot.
Altitude is a small movie with a simple enough premise; a group of kids take a commuter flight piloted by one of them and encounter some type of monster up in the sky.
Altitude makes use of a caged setting, something which can be very effective when used properly. Certainly the cramped cabin interior and the feeling of helplessness that everyone who flies in a airplane can relate to. Especially if you have been in some serious turbulence before, or an actual plane that had mechanical malfunctions or icing issues.
There is a lot about this film to bring you to it, not the least of which was a well-cut trailer that portrays the movie in a slightly different fashion than how it plays out. The acting provided runs the table really, from the card-board characters of the bully-asshole-jock, the girl with the camera torn between two different guys, the musician guy, the weird and nervous guy and the pilot who is the girl with a troubled childhood dealing with some daddy issues and flying when she likely shouldn’t be.
Much of the interactions between the characters are contrived and you will find it hard to care for any of the them, aside from the decent performance put forth by Jessica Lowndes, an actress who also appeared in the After Dark film Autopsy. She manages to put forth as solid an acting job as could be expected.
The special effects were slightly better than a Syfy channel movie of the week, but definitely constrained by a tight budget. Still, given what they had to work with and the setting for the film, I think they did better than I originally expected.
Really this comes down to measured expectations. The film was not nearly as horrible as I was told it was and as the reviews had suggested. If this had been a Masters of Horror or Outer Limits episode, people would probably have enjoyed it. While many of the plot twists are obvious, there was a decent enough twist at the end that I did not expect.
The monster itself was the true star here. It definitely had that Lovecraftian feel to it and I would have loved to have seen more of it.
Overall, the movie is going to be a case of give or take and I am sure many of you will pass on this one. Still, if you want a solid diversion and a cool monster, you could waste your time in worse ways.
A group of friends take a small plane to fly to a concert. Things go horribly wrong when they ends up in an endless storm cloud and attacked by a tentacle like squid monster.
I checked this flick out because the concept of a giant cthulhu like monster flying around in the sky attacks a plane? How B horror movie awesomeness if that? The cherry on top was that it’s a Canadian film. The downside is that the monster takes second…even third seat to everything else in this flick.
The film has major problems, most of them are with the characters and their actions. I can only take so many jerk jock characters before I shoot someone. Here, that jerk jock character is one of the more obnoxious ones to hit cinema. Second, we have an emo kid who has hidden feelings for one of the other passengers, the girlfriend of the jock. Both of these guys are jerks in one way or another. The girlfriend is a film major, she has her little video camera and occasionally has to playfully hit her boyfriend for saying something inappropriate, nothing else. Finally we have the pilot, a beautiful young woman, who is actually a novice at flying. Her mother died in a plane crash when she was little, so it’s obvious that she wants to fly and have no fears of it, right? Her boyfriend is severely underwritten and has too much importance later on in the film. He has a fear of flying and collects comic books, that’s all we get.
The majority of the film takes place on the small plane they take, they are on their way to a concert. After some equipment malfunctions, they end up flying right into a storm cloud. Everything turns dark and they can’t see where they are going. They freak out, rightfully so and start throwing baggage out of the plane because they only have a limited supply of fuel. Next thing you know, one of the characters is hanging outside of the plane, tied off with some rope. Completely plausible (cue eye roll). I got it, I laughed and we were having a fun time, finally we get a glimpse of the giant squid like creature in the sky and we are down one character. You didn’t think he was going to live did you? Did you think everyone was going to make it out of this all peachy?
Instead of the film becoming a classic monster flick, Jaws for the sky, it takes a weird turn and becomes another film entirely. We enter a Twilight Zone/Outer Limits area and more events come to light. Some of these events are meant to be a surprise, but if you can put two and two together, you’ll see it coming. The ending reminded me of The Butterfly Effect, so take that as you will.
The acting was pretty bad, specifically the boyfriend of the pilot. Has he ever taken acting classes? He can’t even yell right and pull off a believable angry face. The only person who had some talent was the lead. I don’t blame the actors, really, it starts with the script. The script throws these unlikable characters into a small plane and we are stuck in there with them. I wanted the damn creature to show up before they even took off.
Altitude is a rental, at best. The film had potential, but terrible characters and a different direction in the script makes the film fall short of being fun cheesy entertainment.
Worth a watch.Cool idea done in a low budget B movie way.Had some good and bad acting, same for dialog. The Twilight Zone like ending twist was OK.The creature effects were better than I expected.A good rental at best.Don’t expect greatness and you might enjoy it.
could have been alot better, mashed down it could have been a good portion of a creepshow film
It started off good but then after the first killing and finding out that this creature is this kids mental illness thing? What the hell! This movie was very predictable and had a very lame story line.
Comment
Better then sounds, The characters in this movie were not that likable at all,
so you didn’t really care f they were killed or not,
The were some two good moments in this movie that about really, there not any scary scenes or any anything gory or bloody scenes,
This movie had too many long slows scenes, try to make you warn to them, but script, makes you hate then even more,
The creature was not at all,it was scary at all, it was decent, It could have been much worse.
I didn’t understand some of stuff in the plot, this can be little confusing at times.
The twist at the end not bad at all, try borrow something not moving, trying to change the pass, without even knowing.
5 out of 10 Decent horror!
