The horror genre is a rather large one when you think about it. It is a genre that accepts “bad” movies. These “bad” films are not to be mistaken for films that were simply poorly made. I refer to intentionally bad, often cheesy films. On the other side are the films that are just poorly made. Now were this movie to fall into the intentionally bad category, well I could possibly forgive it. Instead we have a poorly made movie that attempts to place itself into the comedy/horror genre, one which is really a pass fail category with the majority of the class failing and no curve.

The plot basically involves a young slacker who is tapped to direct a version of Hamlet which features vampires in it. The so-called twist being that the man behind the play is an actual vampire. What follows devolves into a strange and often painful hour and a half of bad jokes, horrible effects and just awkwardness for the viewer.

While Jeremy Sisto injects the only real humor I found in the film and Devon Aoki is beautiful and underutilized, the rest of the cast is just horrible. I actually felt bad for Ralph Macchio here as he was given a paper-thin character who only became interesting literally minutes before he died.

I wanted to like this movie, I genuinely did. It had what appeared to be an appealing cast and a solid premise, but what was offered was just downright embarrassing and should be avoided, even if you were given a free copy.
