A very underrated movie. This is in fact the first movie to feature everyones favorite cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lector. Although not played by Anthony Hopkins, Brain Cox’s Hannibal is still a great character. This movie has since been remade as Red Dragon, but I still prefer this one over that. For a great suspense thriller, I highly recommend checking this movie out.

People swear by Silence of the Lambs, cheer at the exploits of Hannibal and love the Red Dragon for Edward Norton – I love them all but, when I saw this movie – which was after SILENCE OF THE LAMBS – I became an instant fan of Thomas Harris — This movie drew me into the serial killer genre seriously – its an awesome movie – Hannibal herein is not the central figure but The Tooth Fairy and only owe this movie one thing – AWE!!!

This was utter CRAP. The music was awful and distracting, the acting was subpar, the characters were flat and dull. Dolarhyde was unimposing and not very scary at all, and Hannibal was just your common garden serial killer who prayed on teen girls. WTF? He wasn’t even a cannibal. What’s the point? The most wasted 2 hours of my life.

If you’re a Hannibal fan, watch it to say you have. Otherwise, don’t waste your time.

Manhunter was the superior film version of Red dragon. The acting by the killer is phenomenal and creepy. All other acting is top notch, the story is intriguing and the camera work is Grade A. Fantastic thriller from Michael Mann. The man who plays hannibal lector also does not do a bad job. He is no Anthony hopkin, but not bad. Highly recommended film.

I finally get to watch the original Red Dragon which is titled Manhunter. I watched this film last night and since I read the novel and after I re watch Red Dragon which is the 2002 remake of Manhunter I was in solid expectations on watching Manhunter. I was amazed with this movie so far and I enjoyed it as well. Although I still prefer Red Dragon over Manhunter. This was also a good Hannibal Lecter film only that this is the Hannibal Lecter movie without Anthony Hopkins in it. Instead Hannibal Lecter is portrayed by Brian Cox and this movie has the 80′s feel because the film was released in 1986. What I did like about the movie is that the film has a really intense and creepy atmosphere and it also has the suspense just like Red Dragon. But for me this movie is not as good as the book so far. Just like what the review in Red Dragon says. Usually this was a great film but it really falls short in my opinion. And the reason why I said that it’s because this movie is rushed in various scenes and this movie has various parts missing from the book. There were lots of changes and there were a couple of parts from the book in the film but they were incredibly rushed out and it falls short. A couple of characters were also missing from the book they were never shown in the film so far. Usually there are various differences from the book towards this film. And the difference between Manhunter and Red Dragon is that here in the film the title is completely different and of course there are various changes from the book in this movie. The 2002 remake uses the book’s title and the movie is faithful to the book but this movie isn’t faithful to the book so far and it was completely different from start to finish. The acting was ok so far my real problem was that some of the casts were pretty weak towards every scene with their acting in the film and Brian Cox wasn’t as good as Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter in this movie. While the rest were good. The characters were flat in every scene so far. Overall Manhunter is a great adaptation of Thomas Harris’s novel and it is different to the 2002 remake.
