Yesterday we broke the news on a new The Wolfman film from Universal Pictures. It was unclear if it was a direct-to-disc reboot or a sequel of sorts. Our inside tipster hit us back this morning telling us that Michael Tabb is now in talks to pen the screenplay for what he hears is “a sequel.” The period piece is listed as “Home Entertainment,” so it appears Uni is headed down the same route as Death Race, as previously reported. Maybe it’s because Rick Baker and Dave Elsey just won an Oscar for “Best Makeup” at this year’s Academy Awards, or maybe the home video sales alone were through the roof, but Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned that Universal Pictures’ is planning to retool The Wolfman yet again. READ MORE
It was a rough year finding good horror films in theaters. The last two years seemed to have some great gems. Not to mention a lot of theaters pulled some great horror movies out way to early (but I won’t go into that whole shenanigans right now). I had to look elsewhere for decent horror and stumbled upon a few I think will be soon to be classics. So read below and check out my top list of 2010. (more…) READ MORE

This Friday Universal Pictures’ The Wolfman arrives in theaters everywhere. While the youngins might think it’s the first time Lawrence Talbot transforms into the hairy beast, there’s actually a rich history behind the monster movie — or creature feature if you will. To celebrate the return of one of the most beloved Universal Monsters, Bloody Disgusting Chris Eggertsen counts down his personal “Top 10 Movie Monsters.” (more…) READ MORE
Contrary to popular belief, The Wolf Man is not the first Universal werewolf movie. That distinction goes to Werewolf of London, released six years earlier. That being said, the reason The Wolf Man is so much better remembered is because it was the first successful Universal werewolf movie, featuring a now-classic performance by Lon Chaney, Jr. as the title character. Sure, London has its charms, but The Wolf Man is really the movie that started it all.

Fans of Sick Girl get ready for one of the coolest looking indie flicks I’ve seen in a long time. From writer-director Eben McGarr comes House of The Wolf Man, which stars Ron Chaney, Dustin Fitzsimons, Jeremie Loncka, Sara Raftery, Cheryl Rodes and Jim Thalman. This afternoon we got our little paws on some exclusive images from the feature that seriously – and I’m not exaggerating – make the Wolf Man remake look like mud. “Dr. Bela Reinhardt (Chaney) has invited five people to his castle to see which of them will inherit his estate. He has arranged for a competition of sorts, the victor shall be determined through process of… elimination,” McGarr tells Bloody-Disgusting. “The film was shot in black and white, 1:33 aspect ratio and is a good old fashioned monster movie that you could bring your kids to.” Awesome, simply awesome. Taking no time in upping the ante, back in 1935 Universal Pictures brought to the world The Bride of Frankenstein, a sequel to the 1931 classic monster movie that follows a chastened Henry Frankenstein who abandons his plans to create life, only to be tempted and finally coerced by the Monster, encouraged by Henry’s old mentor Dr Pretorius, into constructing a mate for him. The Bride rejects the Monster however, resulting in her death, that of Pretorius, and apparently the Monster’s own death, when he destroys Henry’s laboratory. While Universal Pictures is prepping the release of their Wolfman remake and still developing a new Creature from the Black Lagoon, the studio is still keen on bringing this luscious bride back to the big screen (and in color!). Read on for the skinny. (more…) READ MORE
