i loved this movie so much i have a ghostface costume and i bought the dvd. perfect movie. i could understand the feelings and the emotions of the charactors. i loved the ghostface costume, the way the killers stalked their victims (the phone call with voice changer). the movie had a perfect cast in my opinion, and i could relate to the charactors, because i am almost a teen, like the charactors were teens, and i just think this is a classic movie.

THE GREATEST SLASHER MOVIE EVER! Actually the greatest movie ever! My all time favorite movie! This movie changed my life and gave me the real love of horror! The cast was amazing! Although Drew Barrymore as Casey Becker was only in it 12 minutes it was the powerful acting from an actress in any horror film! And her strongest performance yet! She was amazing! As was the rest of the cast…Neve, david, courteney, rose, mathew, skeet, jaime….ALL OWNED THEIR ROLES! Plus Wes and Kevin together is just brilliant!I can’t express how much I love this movie…there are no words! And no film yet has been able to blow a opening away like that! Biggest star in it killed first! Can’t feel any more in warms way than that! From the get go you feel like no one is safe! Love it! Now I want to leave work and go home and watch it!

Without a doubt, the greatest horror film to come out of the ’90′s. My own personal favorite of all time. I really don’t think anything could have been altered in this movie to make it better, great cast, amazing story, very edge of your seat. This whole series really stands out as one of the greats. Part one in particular. 10

Easily one of the best slasher movies of all time. Everything about it is sheer brilliance. From Drew Barrymore’s thrilling opening scene, to the comical writing and characters, to Rose McGowan’s infamous death scene. Acting is top notch, very well thought out story. Not much more can be said! Wes Craven is god!

Never before have I seen a movie so fresh, funny,(yes, funny) and downright scary! In this rare case funny and scary join forces and in an even rarer case, actually work together.

They do this in a unique tongue-in-cheek manner that is suspenseful, horrifying, and makes you chuckle, too. It’s very effective, believe it or not. And to add to the fun, stars such as Neve Campbell, Jamie Kennedy, Drew Barrymore, and Courtney Cox are littered across the film’s story.

    The story is as follows:
When a young woman is murdered, people start pointing fingers. After the killings begin to grow more and more sadistic and gruesome, accusations fly and grow out of hand.

Then, everyone grows convinced that their is a killer on the loose that took his love of scary movies one step (or more) too far. He stalks his victims ass essential horror movie trivia questions, and guts, stabs, and slices them to bits.

Who will save the day, I wonder. Who? This film takes the ordinary slasher genre and turns it into an awesome guessing game.

One of the first horror films I saw. My mother kept saying that I was and never will be allowed to see this film because of it’s graphic nature. When I was finally old enough in the eyes of my mother I was finally allowed to rent this film. I popped it in the DVD player and watched. Once the film ended, I started it back at the very beginning and watched it again. One of the few films ever that I’ve watched once and again right after.

I saw this film during the second week of its release. My friend saw it opening weekend, & recommended it. I enjoyed the whole opening sequence with Drew Barrymore. That’s actually (DB’s death) my favorite part of the movie. I liked the “Randy” character, & all the references to the older horror films. Horror references such as this are a great way to spark the curiosity of fans who have never seen some of those older films mentioned in the movie. My cousin had never heard of “The Town that Dreaded Sundown”, & it inspired him to go check it out. He loved it!!! He also tracked down “Trading Places” just to “see Jamie Lee’s breasts”. One of the better horror flicks of the 90′s. Great job by Kevin & Wes!!! Rose McGowan was Hottt!!!

This is probably 90′s horror at it’s best. A classic slasher flick, with plot twists and turns, some great acting and some gory action! Scream is a teen slasher, the rather simple type. Woman in house, phone call, woman dies. But it’s better than that. The unique phone call, the unique running action, the unique gore fest action that this slasher movie is known for. Scream is a truly great movie, despite some crummy acting, it is by far the best of the three, with a lovely thought out plot, with mystery in every corner. It will keep you thinking for sure, and it will have you on the edge of your seat, watching all that wonderful gory action. I think this is one of Wes Cravens best projects. I asure you, when watching Scream, and the phone rings, you won’t pick it up!

    9/10

Wes Craven’s somewhat overrated, nevertheless, strong comeback with Scream in collaboration with Kevin Williamson… screams confidence, resurrecting the 90′s rather tiring and stagnated horror-genre by breaking new ground in projecting clever parody directed at the genre and itself, rewarding black humour and innovative scares, and the concept is as refreshing and appreciative as it is successful and rated-R.

Ahhhh…For one brief Moment, during the 90′s “My how time Flys” alittle Movie called “Scream” came along and immediately changed the way we saw Horror! Suddenly the “Slasher” Flick could be Entertaining, Smart, Witty, Well Written with Drawn Out Characters that the Audience could actually root and care for! From the “Whats Your Favorite Scary Movie” Phone call that Drew Barrymores Character gets at the beginning to the “Not In My Movie” Neve Cambells Sydney says when she assures herself and us that the Killer is Dead and Staying that way when she shoots Him one last Time in the Head! In the Middle of all this was a Murder Mystery, a UpDated “Who Did It” and “Why” for the New Horror Generation! Wow, hard to believe they made Movies like this or at least within the Horror Genre or since the passing of Alfred Hitchcock…Was this little Movie A fluke, In a World full of Fiday the 13th’s pt 100 “Jason gets Medicare” to Halloween 15 “Michael Myers gets a Hip Replacement”! Yes this Movie was truly Amazing and seemed like finally Horror was gonna get the Recognition it rightfully deserved!! It had two Sequels to “Finish” out the Trilogy that upon My Understanding was always meant to be! Kevin Williamson of “Dawsons Creek” Fame Wrote this Original Story and brought it to Life, and Besides Drew and Neve, the cast Included Cortney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowen,Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy who all played their Parts with such Conviction that you “almost” hated to see any of them “Get It” but what would a Slasher Flick be without the Kills? Yeah, this was suppose to be the “Future” of Horror, and here it is now, 13 Years later, and what is playing at our Cineplex, Halloween “Remake” Friday the 13TH “Remake” My Bloody Valentine “Remake in 3D” and the list goes on and on, yet where is the Original, thought provoking, Fun yet Nail Biting, Suspensful, Thriller/Horror/Slasher Films at? Oh Yeah, they are stuck in 1996, when this Gem of a Movie Premiered! So, “Whats Your Favorite Scary Movie”? For me, Scream is Definately One Of Them.

Scream is and always will be in my top 20 horror films. The film brilliantly takes slasher movie elements to a new place. Gone are silly slashers in masks stalking lame teen characters running aroung half naked. This wicked, gory, mean, and self-referential story goes beyond what many slashers have done, and like Halloween, it has made slashers fun once more. I think what makes Scream and its sequels so successful is the writing. In the Scream universe there are well though out characters with real life problems. There is pathos, which is something you do not find in most slasher movies. I guess on some levels it is a slasher soap opera. Oh what fun!

one of Wes Craven’s best made horror films since “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “The Hills Have Eyes”.

i guess it’s because it was an all-star cast, having featured Neve Campbell and David Arquette and other guys. in my opinion, Drew Barrymore was the best actress, and it was sad to see her die, because her parents are right in front of her, and they don’t notice anything.

    AWESOME!!!

Scream is probably the best adventure into the 90′s horror hall of fame. It’s gory, witty, tongue-in-cheek, and scary. This was definitely a fun and jaw-dropping ride from start to finish. The performances are great, the story packs a punch, and the concoction of laughs and scares works beautifully. Even the costume of the murderer looks sick. I personally believe this is the best of the trilogy and it has the best kills. Ouch, that garage scene was painful. Scream is guaranteed to leave you puzzled, laughing, head-scratching, scared, and awed at the same time. It’s one of the best horror films of all time, and respectively so.

Seriously. After I have been thinking about it for a long time, I’m going to say that this is probably my favorite horror/thriller movie of all time. It brings back so much nostalgia and intrigue that I have loved it, upon repeated viewings from when I first saw it as a young child to this current day and age. It has absolutely everything I love about cinema in it: a beautiful and magnificent cast, great tension, humor, scares, and bloodshed all within the constraints of youth and teenage agnst in my favorite decade of all time, the ’90s. PLUS, we all know this film is a self-aware satire that uses what it’s satirizing and makes it WORK. God, I love Scream. I loved the sequels and am so FREAKING excited for Scream 4, especially considering it has the three main characters returning, the original actors reprising their roles, and also the return of horror MASTER Wes Craven and awesome screenwriter Kevin Williamson. My only regret about the ENTIRE series is that Kevin Williamson should have wrote Scream 3! It would have been SO MUCH BETTER! This film will always have a place in my heart. I know what MY favorite scary movie is…

    CLASSIC!

I just rewatched this film the other day and it STILL holds up in 2010. Everything about the film is great. We have an awesome director. The movie is very suspenseful and has great tension and some AMAZING stalk/chase scenes. The acting is great and the characters are likable and well developed. The film also gave us an awesome heroine to root for in Sidney, perfectly played by Neve Campbell.
The soundtrack and the score was perfect.
Any flaws? In my opinion, TOO many people survived in the end. They could’ve killed another couple characters in the end.
But the film’s ending is still mindblowing.

What a breath of fresh air. Considering the unoriginality of all the horror movies coming out these past few years, this was seeing this movie was like a glass of ice cold lemondae on a hot summer day. From the opening sequence starring the rising star Drew Barymore to the ending which is shocking the first time you see it, this movie is great. I grew up watching scooby doo and to me, this was a rated r version of that so obviously i was attracted. The acting in this movie is great. This is for once, a horror movie in which the actors dont act as if this is a quick buck so they act poorly. This is a well thought out, well acted horror film that is destined to be a classic.

Recently saw this for the first time and I absolutely loved it. Not only was it gorey, witty, and well-written with good actors, most of the characters in it were smart. They had seen lots of horror movies, and knew what to do with a killer after them. I especially loved the end when Billy was supposedly dead and Randy warned them about the last scare. When Billy jumped and Sydney shot him, I burst out laughing. Excellent movie, would recommend it to anyone.

My favourite modern horror. Excellent taught direction from Craven with an opening scene that’s truly iconic – Drew Barrymore has never been better. Kevin Williamson’s script was truly unique and self-referential for its time and the casting is perfect. In Neve Campbell a new Scream Queen was born, rivalling Jamie Lee Curtis for the crown, giving a nuanced genuine and empathetic performance. Cox, Arquette and every other leading role is perfectly pitched – a truly great ensemble of actors and eclectic characters. I will never get tired of this perfect horror film. “Scream” – a wonderful tribute to all the 80s slashers and, most important, the one movie that revitalized the horror genre in the stale 90s.
One of the best slashers of the last 20 years and IMO also one of Wes Craven’s best flicks of the last 20 years.

Extremely suspenseful and thrilling with many nerve-wracking and stunning edge-of-seat-scenes (the outstanding opening, the “Halloween” scene, the school bathroom scene…), a few terrific kills (the ‘beautiful’ stabbing of Drew Barrymore, the slashing of the cameraman, the garage door kill…) but also with loads of funny moments (favorite horror movie, the rules how to survive a horror movie, Fred the janitor…) and hilarious dialogue lines (“You’re starting to sound like some Wes Carpenter flick.” / “Liver alone!” / “Please don’t kill me, Mr. Ghostface. I wanna be in the sequel!” / “That woman was a slutbag whore who flashed her shit all over town like she was Sharon Stone or something”).
Moreover, Kevin Williamson’s script is fantastically written and paced (including many excellent plot twists and neatly developed characters), the soundtrack is very effective, the camera work is just beautiful (like in almost every Craven film), the killer’s Ghostface outfit looks stunning and last but not least, it’s full of really superb actors (Neve Campbell [#1 crush of my youth], Rose McGowan, Courteney Cox, Skeet Ulrich, Drew Barrymore etc.).

The only thing I don’t like about it is David Arquette, a horribly annoying and almost unbearable actor – but aside from this minor flaw, “Scream” is of course magnificent and perfectly entertaining popcorn cinema. A true modern horror classic.

dunno what Craven was thinking… this film is cliche and boring. Just some more “let’s go kill some teenagers” nonsense. Meh. That’s how I sum up the whole movie… meh. I would rather spend my time watching a Troma movie.

I hated this fuckin movie when it came out.It was lame.Just a formulated slasher for the 90′s with no redeeming qualities.

“Scream” loves slasher flicks, and I would imagine, so does director Wes Craven. What proves admirable about his “Scream” is that Craven is not intent on re-inventing a genuinely crappy horror sub-genre. In fact, he intends to make fun of it, and in the funniest ways possible.

“Scream” is not just for horror fans; it’s for any cinephile. I won’t say “of any status”, because a cinephile is a cinephile; not much of a difference. If you like cinema, then “Scream” is cinematic. It does its job well, it’s funny, sometimes atmospheric, and all-together wonderful.

Yeah, yeah, yeah: “Scream” ain’t no horror masterpiece; I get that. But it’s a classic, on its own right, for being as funny and memorable as it is. Not a “scary Wes Craven horror flick” per se, but none the less a flawlessly executed skewering of the slasher film. One of the best slasher satires ever made.

This redefined the genre, brought horror back to the mainstream, and brought out a TON of copy-cat, me-too movies. It was great the first time, it’s great today. Scream turned the horror genre around, and is very deserving of the highest of review scores. I didn’t even guess the killer’s identity before the end, which is something that most movies fail to hide anymore.

This is a staple horror movie of the 90s, for better or worse. Now this is a well-made film, the way the murder scenes are shot are terrific. The widescreen ratio is used well. Everyone knows, the script is very good, with it’s pacing and clever references. It definitely owes a lot to pop culture of the time. I do love the opening scene. Ghostface is great, up until when you find out who the killer is. I always prefer seeing Ghostface than some ordinary person doing the killing. Ghostface’s voice is also great “Hello Sidney”. Anyway, like this one, a very important movie in the evolution of the slasher.

A violent and witty horror movie that manages to not only entertain and scare, but also manages to be self-aware. Released at a time where other slashers were quite prdictable, this film was a breath of fresh air into an otherwise dying genre. Whether or not the high volume of high school themed slashers following this one was a good thing or not, this film certainly made it okay to be a horror movie in the mid 90′s. More details here:

This movie, even if it wasn’t a good time, would get points soley for “the rules” speech. It’s fun seeing the genre poke fun at itself while still being legitimate horror.

Scream is a brilliant horror, it combined the best of the old and the new. Some people don’t appreciate Scream because they’re too busy comparing it to other horror films or other films directed or produced by Wes Craven, not many people see how unique the film actually is, it includes a brilliant storyline with many memorable characters and quotes. NOT ONLY does it make fun of itself whilst still remaining a legitimate horror film it also creates a horror film within a horror film (albeit you only see STAB come out in Scream 2,3 and 4). All in all it’s a brilliant horror film.
One more thing, Randy Meeks’s character is a crucial part of the Scream series, he’s definitely not overrated.

Scream is a great 90′s slasher. The kills were bloody, the dialogue was witty, the acting is cheesy. Just the epitome of a fun time. All In All, Scream is a fun hack and slash flick.

Entertaining. Somewhat campy and cheesy though. Ghost Face is a bit of a douchebag and seems to get manhandled by his victims a little too much. Wuss. Overall a good movie for teenie boppers to cut their horror teeth on.

Scream is the first slasher I fell in love with. I remember seeing this in theaters actually, I must have been 9 years old. My dad took me and my brother. (I have a cool dad) I’ve always been into horror and I remember being so scared by this movie. I’ve seen all 4 Scream movies in theaters. This rebooted the horror franchise that was dying out in the 90s. Scream is great!

I never tire of this show. I love the entire cast, I think each person really fit their character and done a great job portraying them. This show REALLY had me guessing clean up to the end. Just an all around great slasher film with a soundtrack that has some catchy tunes.

The Ultimate Movie Review! – http://tss5078.blogspot.com – @tss5078 – Horror legend, Wes Craven, wanted to mix a traditional slasher film, with a who done it mystery, while at the same time parading both. The result is Scream, which turned into a much bigger film and franchise than he expected. He wanted to do this sort of under the radar, with a cast of virtual unknowns, but due to its uniqueness, the movie quickly gained popularity and today is considered one of the best horror movies of all time. The cast are all household names now and the ending of this film is legendary. Twists, turns, paranoia, accusations, one liners, and good looking people is what Scream is all about. The story is a great one, the cast is solid, and when it comes to writer/directors, you can’t get much better than Wes Craven. The original Scream is one that should be on your must see list!

Official Score: 4.5 / 5
