It was just ok, definitely not epic like everyone said it would be. I wish it would have played more on the emotional aspect of the games. How drained would you feel if you knew you had a 1 in 24 chance of living through the next 2 weeks? None of them seemed that drained, which peeved me.

Wow. I knew with the concept of this movie that it was going to be pretty f*cked up but WOW. When the battle started that opening blood bath was definitely just cutting the PG-13 mark! This movie was sooooo disturbing but in such a satisfying way! Even though it was very long the constant changing of environments really held my interest. I loved that it was just a straightforward movie with no stupid drama (ehem Twilight…) and these characters have real problems and issues that, although so unrealistic, was actually more relatable for me than anything I’ve seen in a Twilight film. The only complaints I had about the movie was that the camera was a little too shaky at times, there were some transitional continuity issues, and the relationship with Peeta and Katniss could have been explored a little more. Like when Peeta originally teams up with the other district fighters and it seems he’s against Katniss even though he’s just playing the other competitors they never explain that and Katniss never even brings it up with him it’s like she totally forgot he was “with them” in the first place. Well other than that the movie was really good and surprising. Looking forward to the sequel!

Wow, what a let down…if you are 14 years old, you might like this movie, if you love Twilight you might love this movie…this movie does not belong on a horror website…the good- the acting, the ok- the plot, the bad- everything else…I didn’t fall asleep, but I really wanted to…

In terms of book-to-movie adaptations, this is much closer to a Harry Potter and nowhere near the awful Twilight saga. You could tell that the filmmakers and actors were really putting in the effort here. It’s faithful to the book and breezes through it’s 2hr. 20min. runtime, while still hitting all of the major points with accuracy. It was thrilling and entertaining throughout and I was satisfied.

It was pretty cool, but battle royal is 100 times better. I know there not the same, but the premise is the same though. Hunger games wasn’t really that violent and didn’t push the PG-13 limit, I’ve seen a lot of other very violent PG-13 films. But the plot was cool, and I still love movies like this. And hey it’s 100000000 times better then twilight :)

Predictable Hollywood crap aimed at 13 year olds. Trust me you’ve seen this all before. Cheap, cheesy, implausible.

IF ONE MORE PERSON COMPARES THIS TO TWILIGHT I WILL FUCKING STAB THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you know the books, you know this film was absolutely fantastic. If you don’t know the books, then I feel sorry for you. The story is great, the acting was fantastic and everyone was perfectly cast and the the gore was just enough.

I don’t think it belongs on this site, but the movie is great.

I’m not entirely sure why it’s on this website, because it’s far from a horror movie, but I would second the reviewer. My only critique is that it didn’t fully exploit its ability to bring up interesting social critiques or philosophical points. For failing to do that it lacks some “literary merit,” but aside from that it was a very good film. Immersive, interesting, with good acting, action, and plot. Very good from an entertainment standpoint. I was impressed.

I went in with a very open mind, but was a little nervous when my theater was packed to the gills with girls aged 12 to 16 yrs old. I thought Jennifer Lawrence nailed it, but this flick without her would have been quite poor. Firstly, what’s with all these retarded names, as I never read the books, quite silly. Our 2 male leads, and the male villian were horrible at best, as in horribly cast. Banks and Tucci were great as they always are. And that shaky cam, for people with ADD is really getting old and annoying. For the people that say they are sick of people comparing it to Twilight, how can I not?? We have literature that is written for teens, a Horrible love triangle with 2 mamas boys. Thanks to the shaky cam, you always knew 2 people were fighting, just had to wait to see who won the fight after, when they would pan to someone down and killed. For the budget, the action scenes were quite lackluster. I left feeling it was just ok, and Lawrence was the reason for that.

Wow. I was very pleasantly surprised by Hunger Games. I went in a little skeptical, thinking it was just another awful Twilight-ish teen movie, and it was actually really awesome. The acting was terrific. The visual effects were outstanding. The cinematography wasn’t so amazing. The shaky-cam (while appropriate in some areas) got annoying pretty quickly. That said however, when it comes to Hunger Games, the good definitely outweighs the bad. I highly recommend this movie to everyone.

I’m still trying to figure out why all the hype surrounding this movie. It was okay, but really nothing more. I thought it was overly long and downright boring at times. My wife, who LOVED the books, was disgustingly disappointed and said it was a complete waste of our afternoon. And will someone tell people to stop with the shaking cam thing. It is so annoying and to me simply replaces you not having an interesting enough story. I guess the bottom line for me having not read the book is that it was okay but: A. The premise that we would sink to the level of watching 12-18 year olds kill eachother was ridiculous and B. There was no tension because I knew from the outset, having not read the books, what the ending was going to be. An okay movie, but lower the hype meter.

Yes, you CAN believe the hype: “The Hunger Games”, Gary Ross’ adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name (which I haven’t read), is an absolutely amazing blockbuster of a movie – an intense, gripping and very intelligent survival-action-drama, almost as great as similar-themed movies like “Battle Royale” or “Running Man”.

Fast-paced, action-packed and entertaining, but also pretty emotional and empathic, thanks to Ross’ strong direction and a fabulously written script, but also visually stunning due to many gorgeous, colorful settings, eye-catching costumes, top notch CGI and fantastic camera work (many cool close-ups, terrific shaky-cam).

The cast is impressive: leading lady Jennifer Lawrence, a beautiful and incredibly talented actress, delivers a powerful and barnstorming performance. Stanley Tucci is hilarious as freaky TV-host, Woody Harrelson is highly amusing as alocholic ex-winner, Elizabeth Banks looks damn funny as bubble-gum pink escort, Wes Bentley strongly reminded me of Tom Cruise, Donald Sutherland is wonderfully grumpy and Lenny Kravitz is just cool.

It could have been more brutal and less romantic in the last act, but aside from that, “The Hunger Games” is a very well made and deeply satisfying,
in terms of intelligence and craftsmanship comparable to last year’s “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes”.
I’m already excited for the follow-ups!

The Hunger Games has arrived so farewell Harry Potter, go find your ever-missing balls Twilight because Katniss Everdeen will slay you all like a warrior of our time.

The film is unlike anything I’ve seen on the silver screen before and has such grand yet raw set pieces, costume designs that are out of this world, makeup effects the are effective, which I couldnâe(TM)t even recognize Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, who was great in her role. The high tech special effects which weren’t in your face and were brought in naturally to the film was brilliant, a visual feast for the eyes.

Jennifer Lawrence is perfectly cast as Katniss Everdeen and turns in a star making performance that has such a powerful, emotional, subtle yet striking force that she will have you in her grasp from beginning to end and she did it with ease. It’s true that this series and Jennifer Lawrence will go far in this business.

The Hunger Games is no Battle Royale and I will take that bloody, thrill ride over this film any day but The Hunger Games does display moments of disturbing, violent acts in the fight for survival and the aftermath but it’s mostly glimpses, it is though just as intense, thrilling and chilling as Battle Royale and the fact that most of the killings is off screen made it more suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. This film will make an impact!

As far as adaptations go, I’m not sure because I haven’t read any of the books yet but if the book series is superior to this film adaptation which they usually always are, then I guess I will have to start investing my time in reading them because the film is solid across the board and the director and writer did a fantastic job because story is involving, timely and a terrifying adventure. Director Gary Ross has struck it big this time and is about time, I was lost in his world of Pleasantville and now I’m lost in his world of survival, quite a change but I love it!

Overall the movie has bite, charisma, powerful performances, set pieces that astonish, make up and costume designers that are distinguished and made the movie all that memorable, directed with care, respect and passion for the characters and material given, with a gripping story that doesn’t let up, harrowing from the start and involving with a human connection to the end. What more could you ask for from a movie directed towards teenagers and young adults? The Hunger Games is head to head with The Grey of being the best film of 2012! Bring on the rest of the pack! Highly recommended, a must see in my books.

Ya of course by now everyone knows what this movie is and all the hype surrounding it. Now this is not a horror movie but a lighter post apocolyptic movie. Now I have read the books and they are pretty damn good so I was very skeptical coming into the movie and boy was I wrong. This movie was so awesome and put all the hype aside and go this. Great movie all around about kids fighting to the death, and the story is great.

Well, I need to start by saying that I have read the book, if I hadn’t I’m not sure I would have rated it so high. There is no denying that The Hunger Games was very well made, Gary Ross really nailed the tone of the source material. It was never too flashy or in you face (during the Capitol scenes in particular). Lawrence has proven to be a fantastic actress, and Harrelson was great in his role. As far as the other characters, I felt that a lot of there development was dropped, and i couldn’t really get a good feel for them (Effie Trinkett, played by Banks, was never even named). A few things bothered me as far as translation from the book, but I’m not going to get into that. While not exactly a horror movie, it was still entertaining, I can see it getting much higher ratings from a different audience.

It isn’t a horror movie, but It is a great movie. When I started watching and I thought “well it’s a good movie” but in the end I was like “The best movie I seen this year.”

    The movie was perfection.

    Like, literally, perfect.

They got everything from the book spot-on while making a few minor changes here and there. Compared to massive plot overhauls in films like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire or Eragon, you canâe(TM)t have a much more perfect book-to-movie.

I think it might be my favorite book-to-movieâe

The only thing I can say is this movie doesn’t require a review, but it deserves your eyes and ears- Thats ALL! Just watch it. THE SECOND HALF COULD HAVE BEEN A LIL BETTER BUT THE GORE-METER IS NOT EXPLORED AND PROBABLY ITS GOOD IN A WAY,Still Hunger Games may have required a lil bit of BATTLE ROYALE kills – they are way too timid and limp, but apart from that no complaints – Just brilliant and Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss – Yummmmyyy!@!!

    -impressive directing from Gary Ross
-the only complaint i have is the sometimes too shaky camera scenes
-amazing acting from most of the cast (Josh earned back my respect, he was freaking adorable!)
-although i already read the book, i was still tense in some scenes
-i actually jumped at one scene
    -beautiful costume designs
    -great script
-the character of Seneca Crane didn’t appear much in the book but i loved how they got him more involved in the movie
-yes i still cried in one or two scenes
-not overly romantic but still sweet
    -CAN’T WAIT FOR CATCHING FIRE!

Let me sum up Hunger Games – Girl Volunteers, Girl/Guy train, Girl Guy split up, Girl Hides, Girl Runs, Girl Hides, Girl kills first person (who just happens to have the bow and arrows she needs), Girl Hides, Girl doesn’t kill even though its kill or be killed, Girl runs some more, girl finds guy, girl forced into predictable situation where she has to come out of hiding to save guy, girl runs, girl hides more. Girl waits til everyone is killed for her, comes out of hiding with guy, runs with guy, typical last fight scene, Shakespeare ending? and wins. Crowd Goes Wild.

I was bored most of the movie. I haven’t read the books and feel like I would have had to in order to fully understand all the details. So as a movie alone I feel it failed miserably.

This movie could have been a lot better. It was too geared towards kids and could have benefited from a grittier, R-rated version. It reminded me a lot of Twilight, which reminds me a lot of gayness.

The movie is one of the best this year. It isn’t an hardcore movie but the story and all the effects used are great. The most important thing is the innovation of the presentation of this trilogy.
