This show’s first episode is some of the best zombie stuff I have ever seen. The acting is top notch and you really feel for the characters, and the zombies are mind-blowingly well made. If the rest of the episodes are half as good as the first one this might just turn out to be my favorite tv-series of all time.
The Walking Dead is fantastic. Finally we have zombies on T.V. It has great acting, it is well shot and has a very unique style. Definetly tune in to The Walking Dead on AMC every sunday.
Awesome loved every minute of it!Great way to start a series.Great Zombies,Acting, and Story.I’ve never read the books but I will soon.Highly recommend watching.
This is one damn good show period. not to mention horror show. this is how i believe a real zombie epidemic would go down. looks like it is going to be one hell of a season!!!

I can’t really rate a whole series based on one episode but screw it.. the 1st episode was fantasic.. the thing that made this show excel for me was the human emotion. I actually felt for the characters especially in some of the tense situations.. EXCELLENT acting.. I can only imagine that this show is going to explode in the later episodes.. highly recommended for people who like great tv.. sucks though that this is only going to be 6 episodes.. wish it was longer because most of tv sucks..
As a big fan of the comic book, I can say that I was mighty impressed with the pilot episode. This show is gonna be HUGE. Best thing to happen to zombies since Shaun of the Dead.
If anyone gives this below 5 skulls they need to have their teeth kicked out.
From the opening shot to the streets of downtown Atlanta, this show has everything a zombie epidemic should have: the survivors, the walking dead and everything in between that gets you there.
Definitely one of the better shows on television, especially if you’re a horror fan like me. There’s plenty of gore, suspense, thrills and quite a few ‘jump at you’ moments.
The show is beautifully shot, the acting is fantastic, and the story is amazing.
I definitely recommend this.
Sit back and enjoy the ride. This is one show that is here to stay.
Amazing, Kirkman, Darabont, can’t go wrong.
This show so far is fuckin insane. There wasn’t much zombie action in the pilot. And IDK if their will be. But this is about the people, and what they go through. I am a dick for never reading the comics. I just never gotten to it. but from what I heard, the show is just like the comics. And they added some stuff.
good gore, great story, great actors (lennie james, can’t go wrong) great writers, great producers, great epic feel.
You get the point. If you love zombies, and storys that matter this is for you. Hell even if you don’t. I bet you’ll come out lovin it. Hoping that this continues to run strong. And who knows maybe this will be the start of something new.
After dead set (which was REALLY AMAZING) and this. Zombies will be making a strong impact on everyone. As they will finally come out of the dark and in the light and stay alive forever more.
GO ZOMBIES>
So awesome!!! Can’t wait for the rest.
Yep, it’s awesome. Franks Daranbont has delivered THE horror event of the year.
I haven’t read the comics so I can’t compare but horror fans are in for a treat with this one.
The tone is set from the get go and wastes no time in getting down to business.Everything you see in the trailer is here in the first ep so it was predictable in most parts but there were a few surprises here and there.
For the first episode they’ve had to kick things off pretty hard, and that they do. I was surprised by the level of violence and how graphic it is.
To me it felt like a hybrid of 28 Days later, Dawn Of The Dead and The Stand, but with the introduction of new characters and their individual stories I’m sure it’ll carve out it’s own identity.
What does set it apart is the emotion . We all know how well Daranbont can pull at the heartstrings and one heartbreaking scene had me on the verge of tears.
The acting is good and a lot of the scenes involve the human cast. It isn’t all zombies all of the time.
Can’t wait to spend more time with these characters and learn about their lives. This is not action packed and all the better for it.
The production design and attention to detail is fantastic. The team have done a great job in creating an apocalyptic looking world devoured by the undead, especially in the early scenes.
Most of the time this feels like your watching a movie and not a TV show. For an hour long episode the scope is pretty big and it’s very cinematic.
KNB have also knocked it out of the park. This is certainly their year and after impressing everyone with Piranha they’ve truly outdone themselves with the effects and make up they’ve created here.
Overall, this is damn impressive and now I’m hanging for episode 2.
Amazing is all I can say. This is one not to miss.
Its very rare that a show lives up to the MASSIVE HYPE put before it, such as in the case of THE WALKING DEAD. I resisted slightly, but once 5 minutes in, youre hooked. I have always said, someone satirized the zombie subgenre and made it funny, and thats where the beginning of the end started for the undead. Its not funny. Its something that would terrify you and rock your emotions to the core. Darabont reflected on the situation correctly, the way it should be brought forward. Without laughs – dead serious. Darabont is a great director that knows how to channel the best parts of what youre watching to your brain. His homage to Romero zombies and the like apocalypse is dead-on. We’ve been waiting for the perfect zombie movie for YEARS. It has finally arrived. Best thinjg that has happened to Romero’s undead since he spawned them 30-40 years ago.
Amazing Show!!! But i will have to get it on DVD as there were far too many commercials on AMC- will not be watching it until i can have a full day Marathon.
It was AMAZING! I know now it will be my addiction while True Blood is off!
My God, this was some of the best television I’ve seen in a long time. Not just horror tv, but any tv.
Darabont did an incredible job with this first episode. The acting by all was spot on, the zombies were awesome, and there was just the right amount of gore. I cringed every time Rick offed a zombie, not out of fear, but out of pity.
It’s been a while since a show has actually made me feel for the characters, but Darabont made me care about not just Rick and the human characters, but the zombies as well. He’s likely attempting to soften us all to the idea of zombies so that we will be less of a hassle once he finishes his work on the virus.
Well played, good sir.
This show is going to be amazing and I cant wait. God I hope this show makes it and lasts awhile. The first episode was awesome and im so curious on how this story is going to go. About time someone made a zombie TV series.
This show is put together than most High Budget feature films(of the same genre)and deserves a large audience.
Everything is here from the acting to the atmosphere it provides, it truly has it all. I’m a huge Zombie fan(it is by far my favorite genre) and this show is all I could have dreamed of.
My wife said it perfectly last night at the end of the 1st episode…
“Christ, now we have to wait a WEEK?”
Absolutely awesome. Completely hooked.
Great beginning to a show. Can’t wait for next week.
THIS SHOW IS THE SHIT! SUCH WONDERFUL SPECIAL EFFECTS! AMC IS MY NEW FAVE NETWORK
Incredible story, stunning visual effects, and well developed and acted characters. Long may it run!!
Fucking phenomenal. Amazing zombies… haunting photography… great characters… awesome action… tension… emotion… EVERYTHING. WATCH THIS SHOW NOW.
Believe the hype people, The Walking Dead is outstanding TV. It has everything you could want from the Zombie genre and more, has more of a George A Romero feel to it rather than 28 Day’s which I am hugely thankful for. Although there is only 6 episodes in this series, I am looking forward to each one more than Christmas. The second series will be commissioned and is rumored to have 13 episodes.
This series has definite “Sure fire hit” stamped all over it and just like True Blood will end up going global. I want to heap massive praise to the whole team who brought this epic production to the screen. I will certainly not miss an episode. Watch it for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.
Although there has only been one episode so far, I can confidently say that this show is amazing. The characters were great and the zombies were perfect. The ending to the episode just did it for me and I’m hooked. I don’t want to have to wait every week for a new episode.
WOW!!This could possibly be the best television series of all times!! I know its only been one episode but damn it was great! I can’t wait to watch the rest of the series because I KNOW its gonna be good as fuck. They got good actors and I think they picked the perfect director in Frank Darabont, really excited to see the rest of the series. PLEASE don’t miss out on this, WATCH IT!!!
Lived up the hype and then some. Great start – let’s hope it continues. Loved it.
AMAZING! Finally, a series that I am so excited about and can’t wait until next Sunday, and the one after that, and the one after that to watch it! My husband and I keep talking about the show…can’t wait to see how this story unfolds and to see more of the gross and bloody effects
Better zombie show is better. First episode in and it’s already got me hooked. It’s too bad this season will only last six episodes.
Amazing. If you’re a fan of zombies you MUST watch this show.
I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not the biggest zombie film guy, so I wasn’t exactly “dying” to see this after all of the ads AMC was showing during fearfeat. I was so wrong on this one. What a great show. Actually, this pilot was probably the best horror piece of the year. The images of an unknown apocalyse, the bleak colors used thruout, and the outright best special effects I’ve seen in years made this one to tune in weekly. This show pulls no punches when it comes to the gore too. I actually got quesy when I saw the suicide farmer with the back of his head blown out and the flies everywhere. Thru the whole episode, I felt as if a weight was on my chest. It was such a suffocating feeling as the zombies closed in at the end so I can’t wait until this Sunday. What a great early Christmas present. I’m on my way today to pick up the graphic novels. Awesome stuff!
One of the best zombie movie or shows ive watched. Hopefully the following episodes are nearly as good as the pilot, if so this is going to be entertaining as hell
The show is far better than I thought it could be. As a huge fan of ‘zombie genre’ films, I was fearful of the idea of a TV series being made because there was much that could be wrong with it. It could be made cheaply, be watered-down to not upset viewers or take a less-than-serious approach to the apocalyptic theme.
Man was I wrong to doubt them. Yeah, it was only the pilot episode but it was fantastic and has me anxiously awaiting the next episode. There is not enough I can say about how good the show looks. Perfect.
This is what I call a show. The Walking Dead is really fun and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It blends drama and zombie apocalypse better than some zombie movies out already. I know where i’m gonna be at every sunday night.
zombies were great, i can’t wait to see it more and more. great gore story and acting. definatly check it out
Great show! It definitely does the comic justice. I just finished watching the second episode. I was blown away. It’s about time for a zombie show on television. I can’t wait to see how the show turns out.
The first twenty minutes was full of implausible scenarios, like the car flipping that many times and three men are still alive and well enough to jump out and start shooting. Then we have the main hero lying in a coma for that long after the hospital is abandoned without starving or dehydrating (sorry, but drip bags don’t last for weeks). But you know what? These are minor flaws in a fantastic new series! The acting is top notch, far better than what’s seen in most zombie movies, as is the character build up. The special effects are amazing for a television show OR a full feature movie. Hopefully they will be able to continue this level of excellence, because I want this show on for a long time!
This is absolutely the BEST zombie film/television show I have ever seen, and it’s ORIGINAL(: keep up the good work!
This show is awesome and already renewed for a second season. Good acting, great zombies, great story! and its on every week!
i agree w/ all here that THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!! i’m already hooked and it’s my favorite show! i love that this is a SERIOUS and not campy horror show. please give us many seasons of this excellent show.
This is the single best zombie show I have ever seen: better than the movies.
In a single word: epic.
The long version? Well.. it has to be seen to be believed. It DOES contain a couple of annoying zombie movie tropes(TM) but these are few and far between and are covered by the otherwise excellent characters and action.
The zombies.. for the most part they are true zombies: Walkers, crawlers, shamblers. From what I understand, the creator is firmly in the camp of ‘zombies are slow, if it runs its not a zombie’ and I approve. Occasionally they’re ‘shuffle fast / ‘jog’ if the scene demands it, usually when spurred by a horde. They seem to possess a very crude intelligence.. they’ll pick up an item and drag it or clutch a rock. but these are rare occurrences. This is usually isolated enoguh to one or two per horde, the rest shamble and beat their hands against barriers. It can also lead to interesting theories of ‘levels of zombism’ that they possess. The effects are excellent: these things look terrifying. Some of them give tar man a run for his money. The bicycle girl zombie is awesome.
The characters.. they’re believable. They make mistakes, they bicker and fight in scenes that are otherwise pointless but really bring the characters alive. There are a few instances of plot stupidity but its not a ‘yell at the screen’ level of terrible that many movies fall for to make characters die or bad things happen.
The settings are superb. You really get the feeling that crap has happened when Grimes walks out of the hospital. They cannot really be described in words except to say.. this is what I expect the world to look like after a zombie apocalypse. Text cannot do it justice.
All in all this is a solid 9/10. It loses all of a single point due to its progression: this is a personal feeling. That is that it starts very slow and has some pointless padding early on. This padding may be important to the characters but it could have been cut back some. Also, some scenes I just felt were too long / broke the progression of the series thus far. Usually the scenes in the survivor camp with Rick’s wife and Shane. They’re not badly acted, but sometimes a director really needs to learn to fade to black and let the audience assume.
Amazing show. I really can’t begin to describe how much I love this show. All I know is, I can’t wait for the second season.
It was a decent season, nothing more. Way too much sentimental nonsense (we dont need people grieving over their loved one’s corpses every episode to understand the scope of the situation) and they seemed to get by on dumb luck more than anyone truly adapting to the new world order. Frankly, I think they’d all be dead by now with as many poor decisions that were made, but then thats why its TV. Ill come back next season, but I really couldnt care less its a year away.
I am going to have to see more of this show before I can actually say that it is great, it still isn’t near the status of Dexter in my eyes but others have already made it seem like it is the greatest thing ever on tv. I’ll hold my judgment for next season when their are 13 episodes and hopefully a better story; but as of now the finale left a bad taste in my mouth and doesn’t have my attention enough to wait a whole year.
Fantastic first season. I am so excited for the next season.
So good.
Very Good
this is one of the best tv shows on tv,a good adaptation of the comic.
I’ve got my quibbles with it, but I can’t deny that overall The Walking Dead is a fantastic show. We’ve never had a horror show on TV this good, and if it continues to succeed, it could literally change the landscape of TV.
That last statement sound like hype? Well, it isn’t. I’m not expecting a horror channel anytime soon, but the show’s success proves that good horror stories can draw an audience, so it really ups the chance for more to be made. And its pushing the boundaries for the level of gore that basic cable can show, opening up new avenues for future horror shows.
The Walking Dead might not kickstart a horror revolution, but it just made modern horror viable on TV, and that’s no small feat.
The best new show of 2010
zombie tv show…….nuff said.
great take on the comics. i’m in love with this show. just snagged the blu-ray for 25 bones. can’t beat that.
The first season is phenomenal; in short The Walking Dead is the best zombie anything since 28 Days Later and easily joins the ranks of classics such as Night, Dawn and Zombie. A must See.
loved every bit of it:D best zombie show/movie than Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later
Great makeup, effects, violence, zombie action, and some decent characters to boot. It is cool to have a television series be on top of the genre and actually balls out with more violence and gore than expected. Totally understand the drama development needed to mold the survivors angles for this story, but there was a bit too much sugary weigh-down in the “Tell It To The Frogs” episode (relievingly saved by the intro of Boondock Saints Norman Reedus), and the final episode slagged a bit as well–still a great series. Not every day for a zombie show run on the tube, so this is a real treat—looking forward to season 2.
better than many zombie horror movies out there, actually. It’s great so far.
Hmm. Better than “Day of the Dead”? I don’t think so, better than “Dawn of the Dead”? Definitely not, in fact “The Walking Dead” is no where near at the standards of zombies in the movies. I suppose it does sort of touch the style of “Day of the Dead” with it focussing on character development rather than zombie survival, but at least in “Day of the Dead” it had plenty of action in the last 20 minutes or so. In one episode of “The Walking Dead” I counted two zombies! I’m sorry but if you’re going to make a zombie drama, you need to make use of those zombies.
Episode 1 promised a truly brilliant TV show. There were loads of zombies, great character analysis and a cliff-hanger ending which left me in anticipation for the next episode. The zombies really do look incredible though. The half zombie on the floor was just astonishing! Episode 1 is the best by far.
Episode 2 wasn’t quite as good but was still really good! I felt a bit betrayed with the tank gag because he got out of it so easily, whilst last week we had an incredible birds eye view of hundreds of zombies surrounding the tank, here he just gets out and runs. Too easy. However, we are introduced to some new characters and it’s great.
Episode 3 is when we’re let down. Two zombies, we’re introduced to the survivors camp and its basically a lot of character development which is fine for one episode, but after this it seems like we don’t have any zombies!
Episode 4 is iffy, its more of a human dispute than an undead one, but the ending is makes up for that! I won’t spoil it for you
Episode 5 was more enjoyable character development, but diddn’t make great use of zombies again, but there is some nice drama in this one.
Episode 6 the finale is really good! The ending is so tense, and the pay-off is brilliant! The effects in this are really impressive for a TV thingy.
All in all “The Walking Dead” promises great things, but ends up being mediocre. “28 Days Later” it certainly is not! So I wouldn’t get too hooked on the hype. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed it, but I don’t like how the fabulous looking zombies were used as a side-dish! However, I will be definitely tuning in to series 2
“The Walking Dead” is excellent in almost every aspect regarding a zombie world. What makes “The Walking Dead” refreshing, stylish, intense, and one of the better zombie story lines is its ability to have a strong character development, strong plot and that intense zombie presences. Although many critics, and just die-hard zombie fans have had their complaints, it is still successful and should appeal to both, the die-hard zombie fans and the “newer” generation of zombie fans, who may want that “28 Weeks Later” intensity.
One of my favorite T.V. shows being aired, and although the first season was too short for my enjoyment, I expect season 2 to be just as excellent as the first 6 episodes.
Now that I have my compliments out of the way and as you have probably notices while reading this review, I am a huge fan. Nevertheless, their are some issues which many other critics have discussed. The only issue I have with this series is sometimes within an episode there will be a scene that will be too long and not necessary. For example, there one a scene in the fifth episode, I am sure many of you who have watched the entire season know where I am going. Regardless, there is a scene at the beginning, which is long-winded, and continues for roughly 15 minutes, and it could have been done effectively in 5. For respect to the audience who may have not watched the full season yet, I will not discuss any more detail. Nonetheless, that is one of the major issues with the first seasons, yet it is an issue, which is not enough to hinder the success of the series. It’s promising and just excellent.
Better than 90% of the zombie movies out there.
If you like zombies I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t absolutely love this show.
Hobo Approved(TM)
Halfway through the first season and I can’t wait to watch more tonight. This is a damn good zombie/survival flick. Reminiscant of 28 Days Later but the zombies (walkers) are slow … and nasty as ever. I’m stocking up on ammo in case this shit happens in my town.
If it weren’t for the predictable elements and the cheesy arguments between the characters, this would be easily a 10.
Simply put, the best show on television as of right now.
I have to say, I was SO EXCITED for this series! But I also didn’t believe that people would catch on to it and it would be cancelled because of lack of interest from non-horror lovers. My favorite Tv show of all time is Dexter, and I do believe that The Walking Dead is now tied for the #1 spot on my list. This show is amazing. It has great characters and the walkers look amazing. I love how the director doesn’t hold back and there is as much gore and effects as there need to be. Amazing show.
This is my new favourite TV show!
The Walking Dead is a fantastically written zombie TV show created by Frank Darabont. The general premise is a man Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to find the world he left behind has literally died and gone to hell. He tries to piece it all together and hunts for his wife and kid and any other survivors why seeing the millions on undead or “walkers” at every turn. Eventually he is reunited with his family, however the characters are slowly losing hope and are struggling for survival. Season 1 Ended with going to the CDC and finding out that there was indeed no cure and no one left at the CDC to save them either.
Season 2 for me has been a little bit slow sadly, I think this is due to the fact they episode order for season 2 is 13 episodes and not 6. The return episode for season 2 was pretty good, and I have high hopes for the reason of the season. The Walking Dead has proved to be a hit on TV breaking several records for cable TV and Iâe(TM)m not surprised. Itâe(TM)s fantastically written, acted and the casting was spot on. This is a show defiantly not to be missed. I would argue itâe(TM)s probably the best show on TV at the moment. Where it will go towards the end of season 2 and into season 3 is anyoneâe(TM)s guess, but itâe(TM)s simply unmissable.
Good news is the show has been renewed for multiple seasons and Iâe(TM)ve read season 3 will likely consist of 16 episodes!
This show is fantastic 10 out of 10- you wonâe(TM)t regret watching it.
Its a good show and I get its supposed to be about the “characters” but there needs to be some actual zombie killing this season instead of a story based around one person after another bedridden the entire time. otherwise its a cool show.
This was done really well. Still can’t believe what they got away with on tv but I say fuck yeah. My only complaint is I think the acting is kinda bad, but the story and gore more than make up for it. Definitely worth seeing.
The Walking Dead is a seriously pointless show that I thought it was good but it was a boring show. To say this seriously the show is nothing at all and I seriously just didn’t like it so much. It has a good zombie plot and it’s pretty good for a zombie show but the entire concept is seriously pointless and dull. I wasn’t really that ready yet when I saw the show air on TV although right after I saw a couple of good jump scares and some inventive gore and graphic violence this show seriously went down the hill and the entire concept is pointless, dull and super poor. For one reason this show would not have been made at all. There are good things about it which I watched a lot but the concept of the show is really idiotic and dull and this show is really a poor rehash of zombie movies as well. What I personally enjoy about the show is that the show has lots of good scares and thrills with suspenceful moments and it also has inventive gore effects and graphic violence plus some disgusting moments that will make you vomit on the toilet for 24 hours which is really good for the show. What I also like about this show is that the make up effects look incredible and the zombies were freaky looking and they all look good in each episode and it fits well for the show as well and it makes the show look good. What I didn’t like about Walking Dead is that the acting from the casts is sometimes bad sometimes good and it mainly ranges from good to horrendously awful and terrible plus super bad as well. The characters in the show is what I also didn’t like almost half of the characters are seriously annoying and the characters seriously ruin and spoil every scene in each episode and it doesn’t make the show look good. What I hated in this show is that the entire show is super slow paced and it gets slower and slower because of too much drama. The entire show is really full of boring and dull plus pointless dramatic moments mixed with horrid acting and it was not good at all. Oh and let’s not forget that what I hated in this show is that in some episodes there’s lacking of tension, suspense, scares and some great moments that were in the previous episodes are missing on the other and next episodes as well because the other episodes became to dragging, too pointless and too over dramatic which made my head shake in disbelief and it also made me cover my ears with my hands that I’m not fund of at all even closing my eyes and never open them which I also got annoyed with and it didn’t impress me at all so far. Overall The Walking Dead gets a 2/10. If you want to see a good horror show watch Fear Itself of Masters Of Horror those are the better shows not these new junkie Horror shows that made me shake my head in disbelief and made me feel irritated so far.
This show is the closest thing to Dawn Of The Dead that you can find on television right now. The comic-book was created by Robert Kirkman who’s a Romero fan that successfully paid homage in his own way. You’re following Rick and a Group of survivors and crazy situations including people gone missing, migrating from place to place in drastic situations. Lots of near-death experiences and if you’re an old-school horror fan like me you’ll appreciate that it’s not ALL cgi. Even Greg Nicotero himself helped direct some of the episodes. When people die, they die hardcore. If you’re looking for your next zombie fetish, give The Walking Dead a try. So far there are 2 Seasons of The Walking Dead that have been featured on AMC. Catch up before October.
Fucking amazing show! Everything about this show is beautiful, especially Norman Reedus!
