Top 10 Most Influential Horror Movies You’ve NEVER Even Heard Of (…Let Alone Seen)

One of our favorite things to do here at Bloody Disgusting is let our writers take the ball and run with it. What would be the point in bringing you content if we didn’t enjoy writing it? I’d like to introduce our new contributor, Rebel Phoenix, who is passionate about the “classics”. Today he would like to present to you a new list, “The Top 10 Most Influential Horror Movies You’ve NEVER Even Heard Of (…Let Alone Seen),” all of which were released before Hitchcock’s seminal Psycho. Read on and tell Rebel what you think of his work below! (more…) READ MORE

Segments: John Carpenter’s ‘Body Bags’!

In today’s special “Out of Print” edition of Segments we’ll be revisiting the classic Showtime horror anthology John Carpenter’s Body Bags, a made-for-cable flick I first viewed on rental VHS waaaaay back in the summer of 1995, and hadn’t seen again until this past week. Initially conceived as a basic cable horror series to compete with HBO’s Tales from the Crypt, the concept was eventually scrapped by Showtime, who decided to release the already filmed stories as a horror anthology centered around a spooky coroner played by John Carpenter. It received a brief DVD release around the turn of the century––both as a stand-alone disc and as part of a “Scarefest” collectors’ pack that featured Body Bags, Witchboard, and Rumplestilskin––but it’s been on moratorium for the past 10 years. In conjunction with Holland’s latest Twisted Tale entitled “Vampire’s Dance,” the writer/director returned to his seductive vampire roots established with his 1985 horror classic Fright Night. This newest tale centers around chance encounters and the seductive temptation of the ‘vampire’s dance’ when a young woman (Lisa McClowry) heads to a dance club in search of her missing roommate. She gets more than she bargained for when a mysterious club regular (Shaun Benson) lures her into his dark and dangerous world. READ MORE

During the chat Kassir talked a bit about the idea behind the original series and how he wouldn’t be surprised if the producers revisited it once again. It’s Finally Here: Tales from the Crypt’s ‘Ritual’!!

Seriously guys, how ridiculous of a wait was this? I know the first two Tales from the Crypt movies didn’t perform well, but what did they think? “Maybe if we stick the film on the shelf long enough, there will be a time we can eventually release it theatrically…” Some of the **** that goes on this industry blows my mind (ahem The Wood). Today Dimension Films finally unloads on Ritual, the third and finally Tales from the Crypt feature film. If you’re a fan of Wes Craven’s Serpent and the Rainbow you will definitely get a kick out of it. (more…) READ MORE

You Need This Now: ‘Satan’s 3-Ring Circus of Hell’ TPB

I did some small coverage of the cool stuff I came across at this years San Diego Comic Con (here) a few weeks back, and I just finished reading R.S. Rhine’s Satan’s 3-Ring Circus of Hell book and felt it needed another plug here on B-D. This 256 mega-beast of a trade paper back is loaded with tons of hilarious horror stories and fantastic artwork that any horror fan would love to have- especially fans of Tales from the Crypt and The Twilight Zone. These short stories are twisted, demented and make sure that they end as (un)pleasant as you would wish. Read on for previews from the book and make sure you go and pick this sucker up… (more…) READ MORE

Horror Comic Quickie: New Line and Satan’s Three RIng Circus

The San Diego Comic Con is coming up and I came across a few fantastic comics over the past few weeks that I think you might want to check out while you’re attending the convention. Avatar Press started an incredible line entitled New Line Cinema’s House of Horror, which features one-shots of Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Nightmare on Elm St. I read these issues and was astonished at how much writer Brian Pulido knows about these franchises! I was excited when i found out that these will become actual comic lines in the very near future. For more details click here. Another great book for your toilet hour is one called Satan’s Three Ring Circus by Asylum Press. The book is like a satanic version of Tales from the Crypt with tons of short fun stories to keep your active brain busy. Hopefully we’ll come across some more great stuff at the con, but until then read on for a look at some of these great covers and synopses… (more…) READ MORE
