Nick cage owns. :) this movie owns. it was so different. and it actually had a plot. surprisingly. I thought it was just going to be people dying from beging to end. (well it was) but they took time to explain things, and they showed us things and all great movie. A real fun time. :)

Great popcorn flick in the vain of Machete.Looks good in 3-d and is a very entertaining, whickedly sexy and infectiously comical. I understand those of you who have reservations on seeing a Nicholas Cage movie. However if you like movies in the Grindhouse style and give Nicholas Cage the benefit of the doubt in this film, you won’t be disapointed.

As I expected, it was loads of fun. The 3D elements looked really nice and smooth throughout. This coming from someone who hates 3D with a passion. Done the right way though, like this, makes it exciting and you don’t feel ripped off for shelling out the extra cash to see it. Amber Heard is a real little bad ass in this too, she did a great job. William Fichtner as The Accountant was hilarious and stole most every scene he was in. Cage was cool and laid back, a mellow type bad ass if you will.

I checked this out with my wife and two teenage daughters on Saturday. When I walked into the theatre some of the happiness I was feeling disappeared. There was maybe ten people in the theatre. The last time this happened was when I went to see Grindhouse. We all know how badly that movie performed at the Box Office. What is wrong with people these days? Anyways, this movie ruled just like I knew it would. Surprisingly though, my 18 year old daughter even loved it. I already knew that my 15 year old would love it because Planet Terror, Kill Bill and Doomsday are some of her favorite movies. I don’t really need to review this movie because others on this site already have. I’m writing this to scold all of you so called fans that didn’t show up to support a fun and original movie. The only complaint I have about the actual movie was the extremely horrible cgi at the end. Other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Fun movie with some nice gore at times. Nicholas Cage has a couple hilarious lines in the movie. The 3D was pretty good too.

Very much in the same spirit as Grindhouse… So needless to say it’s a whole lotta fun. AND the 3D was fantastic. This movie didn’t deserve to tank as badly as it did. Get out there and see it.

The funnest time I’ve had at the theaters in God knows how long! Probably MBV3D! I have grown to love Patrick Lussier and can’t wait to see what he does with Halloween 3D. DA3D is a action packed gory good time with some really awesome 3d! Plus you get Amber Heard pretty much through out the film and boys let me tell you, I don’t think there is a prettier sight to behold! The film is From Dusk Till Dawn meet Kill Bill with a MBV3D feel to it! So in other words AWESOME!

was i the only person who found this movie boring? it needed to lose about 20 minutes. and most of the kills felt the same. cage shooting people with a gun. honestly, i expected a lot more blood and guts from a movie called drive angry. i’m embarrassed to say i was disappointed, but i was.

Axelcode… yes you are the only idiot.

The movie was a blast… a little over the top at times (the end) but I wasn’t expecting anything less.

    Oh and Amber Heard… WOW.

I loved it. It was such a fun over the top cheesey popcorn flick. There need to be more movies like this coming out because this was great. But like usual I hated the 3D because it looked like shit but other than that fun movie.

Loud, Bloody Awesome FUN (with a heart, i might add). I LOVED it! Heard, Fichtner, and Burke make this Cage’s most entertaining movie possibly ever. Amber Heard is ready for her closeup.

This movie is a blast from start to finish. It’s trashy, but it’s A grade trash and it knows it is. That’s what makes it so much fun. There’s plenty of gun fights, fist fights and car carnage. I haven’t had this much fun watching a movie since Piranha 3D. Nic Cage is up to his usual schtick, Amber Heard is sexy and gutsy and William Fitchner is absolutely hilarious. It’s definitely a grindhouse style film but we need more of this type if stuff. It’s a shame that it flopped at the box office because I’d much rather watch an original film like this than another bland remake. Well done Lussier, you’ve done it again.

Are you kidding? If I didn’t know any better, I would think this is Ghost Rider. As a matter of fact it is. The only difference was that it was with cars instead of motorcycles and horses. People aren’t such risk takers when it comes to decent storylines. They pay the price for it at the box office.

John Milton escapes hell to find his granddaughter who is captured by a cult and will be sacrificed on the full moon in order to bring hell to earth. He also drives angry.

Nicolas Cage gets a lot…and I mean A LOT of hate for his movies. People complain that the guy overacts in every scene, makes crappy movies and seems to only want a big paycheck. I’m a fan of Cage, always have been and you know what, I always will be. The guy can make a really crappy movie be fun, look at The Wicker Man for that. A movie so terrible, that Cage must have known this and thus we get the infamous “Not the bees” or “Why’d it get burned” lines that have since become internet favourites. His latest feature has him escaping hell, driving cool cars and shooting at everyone and everything in sight. He still has some lame hair though.

Drive Angry is a 3D grindhouse flick that doesn’t try to take itself seriously for a second. Every scene is ridiculous and over the top, from Cage having sex while killing people (same thing happens in Shoot Em Up) to William Fichtner walking out of a moving truck and onto the hood of a cop car while the truck flips over and explodes. Walking I tell you, he doesn’t even blink, he makes it look natural. It helps that he is not human. He’s known as The Accountant and he works for Satan. His job is to bring Milton back to hell.

Amber Heard, beautiful young lady that she is, plays a foul mouth chick who likes to throw punches. She is pretty and fills the role of hot chick as expected. Basically she looks great and makes little boys feel funny in their pants. Finally Billy Burke shows up as the cult leader who wants to sacrifice the baby in the name of Satan. He plays the role in an overtly weird and sometimes sexual way.

Drive Angry is a lot of fun. You need to know what to expect going in. It’s a grindhouse flick through and through. I loved Death Proof, but I even agree with the critics who say that it was too chatty. I think if this were the second flick in the double feature, people would have really had a fun time. Of course it would have had to have been a bit shorter, it’s a little long as it is now. Few parts drag on a bit and I could easily cut some scenes here and there.

The 3D is fun, it’s the in your face kind of fun. The film was shot in 3D, if that helps anyone. Some parts of the film that were in 3D were nicely done, others were obvious (let’s see how many times we can point the gun at the screen and have it pop in 3D). I had fun with SAW 3D, blood and guys flying at me, this is somewhat the same, but better. You can tell that it’s a bit different from films that are converted to 3D, it just has a cleaner feel to it and next to no ‘ghosting’. The only complaints were that sometimes when things were in 3D, the shot was focusing on something else. So the 3D object would be out of focus, thus it loses some of the flare.

The film is loud and in your face. It’s one of those movies that will find an audience on DVD. I can see it becoming a cult favourite in some time. It screams b movie left right and centre and Cage knows this. He actually plays the role very monotone, he isn’t over the top at all. I can tell you right now if you’re going to enjoy this film or not. In a particular scene Cage is offered a beer, he denies it saying “I’m not drinking a beer unless I’m drinking it from the skull of Jonah King”. He fulfills this later on in the film, actually drinking beer from a characters skull. Cool? Hell yes!!! Are you not entertained? Skip this flick.

A little of a let down, I guess my expectations were to high going into it. Regardless, I had fun; Drive Angry is a good popcorn movie and would make a nice rental. I loved the character of The Accountant; hilarious and badass at the same time.

It tries to be a comic book/grindhouse movie but ends up being just another hollywood piece of trash. And for a Hollywood film it has terrible CGI, bad green screen, and too damn much unnecessary 3D (you know the gag where they try to poke you in the eye with shit, just so you go ‘woah dude!’) The third act was almost bat shit crazy though.

I thought the action and gore were great. Not really a big Nic cage fan but he did ok I guess. Amber is just there for eye candy, but who I thought made the movie was the accountant, he was just funny as hell. The story is kinda out there but thats not why you go see a movie like this, you go see it to see some heads rollin, in that aspect Drive Angry delivers ten fold. The only one thing that bothered me was that lame music they played at the very end, it was so cheesy. Other than that you should definitely check it out at least once.

I kick myself for not seeing this in the theater. What an awesome slice of exploitation. Other than some crap CGI, this movie delivers the cheesy goods, awesome gore, outrageous sequences. This one is definately destined to be a cult classic.

This is the type of 3D movie I’ve been waiting for my whole life. It’s just and excessively violent, over-the-top and highly fun grindhouse movie. It succeeds, on that level and delivers some of the best use of 3D since ‘Avatar’. Simply put, it’s a badass FUN time at the movies.

Oh don’t worry, I get it, it’s supposed to be so over-the-top ridiculous that you should laugh because of it. Even taking that into account, it falls short of other attempts, such as Piranha 3D or the Crank films. Maybe if you like Nicolas Cage you have a soft spot for this film, but I don’t. I didn’t get to see this in 3D, not that it would have made any difference. Starts out with some promise, but the brakes go on quick. Some entertaining dialogue in the beginning gave me hope. The story is flimsy. Cage does his thing. He’s pretty good in this if you like Nicolas Cage. If you don’t like him then you’re shit out of luck. The lead female, (Amber Heard?) she’s okay too. I want to like this one but can’t recommend a rental. It just runs out of steam about a third of the way through because there is no real conflict and the characters are cartoonish. Cartoonish…if you like Nicholas Cage and his style you may dig it, otherwise pass. On the horror tip, this is more of an action movie. No scares at all. No gore to be had if that’s your thing. Chalk it up to a lack of direction or crappy producers. Had some promise, but pass.

As a movie directed by Patrick Lussier, the man behind the 3D remake of “My Bloody Valentine”, the 2011 action-thriller “Drive Angry” doesn’t exactly have room for what most of us would call “surprises”. If you remember his previous feature well, you’ll know that Lussier likes scenes of gratuitous nudity, violence, gore, and lots of profanity. Can’t say I blame the guy; maybe he likes Grindhouse-style films. Nothing has changed; he’s made another film which exists to exploit its subjects rather than do them narrative or artistic justice. There’s no way that I could have enjoyed the film, given its “story”, but granted, it’s decent at what it does.

The problem I have is that it never goes to violent, depraved extremes like, say, “Hobo With a Shotgun”; a much better Grindhouse-esque flick that embraces the campy clichés of these kinds of movies. I can’t say that “Drive Angry” DOESN’T seem as if it’s self-aware of its nigh-endearing absurdity, but it’s not as ridiculous and bad-shit insane as it wants to be. If it had been more daring, and less needless and out-right lame, then maybe I would have thoroughly enjoyed myself. I’m sorry to say that it’s just not worth most people’s time.

John Milton (Nicolas Cage) escapes from hell in a car. He just gets in, and drives through the gates…erm, bridges…of the place; and that’s all it takes. But I guess since he’s technically dead, the pain of fire doesn’t apply to him or his flesh. Anyways, he’s anxious to get out because his daughter has been killed by the leader of a Satanic cult, and they’ve taken the baby. The part that really seems to piss Milton off is the concept of having the babe sacrificed; which he just doesn’t like.

So, when he’s back on earth, he meets up with a bartender, Piper (Amber Heard), who takes a liking for him. Basically, Milton fills her in on what’s going on, and drags her into his web of violence and Satanism. Bring the noise!

Actually, hold that thought. I forgot the mention that there’s also this creepy guy called “The Accountant” (William Fichtner) who seems to be following Milton. Whether the guy is a villain or an ally of our heroic characters isn’t of our concern…but whatever; he’s a cool character…probably the coolest as far as un-developed ones go.

The acting here is good. Nicolas Cage is appropriately campy in his role, for what he’s doing. I kind of like how the guy is getting more “self-aware” in roles like this. He was great in “Bad Lieutenant: The Port Call of New Orleans”, pretty good in “Kick-Ass”, and not-so-good in “Season of the Witch”. He’s better here…but this is far from his best performance. Amber Heard is smoking HOT, but she’s also decent, as her acting goes. But the real scenery-chewer is Fichtner, as The Accountant. He garners some solid laughs, and he’s just-plain-amusing on a consistent level. He’s not enough to save the film, but it’s good to have people like him around to at least momentarily please the audience.

“Drive Angry” is well-made, and superbly directed; with impressive production design, action sequences, and whatever else. As I mentioned, the acting is good for what it is, the ambition is in the right place, but the film doesn’t go over-the-top enough for me to like it. That’s not to say that it won’t have an audience; it will. But I imagine that even the most devoted Grindhouse-movie-fans will find it bland, as far as movies like this one go. There are better, crazier, ANGRIER movies out there. This one is neither angry, nor restrained enough, to be as good as it should be. There are some laughs, there’s some mild fun to be had, but that’s far from enough.

OK I’m not going to lie here. I really really enjoyed it. I enjoyed near-on every minute. You could describe Drive Angry as a severe guilty pleasure. I’m sure even those proclaiming such elaborate dislike must even secretly like some part of it. It’s pure switch-your-brain-off fun, which we do need now and again! I’d say that I enjoyed it more than Piranha which had similar B-movie vibes.

What surprised me was how well-made the film was. I was expecting The Expendables kind of shaky, quick-cut action sequences but the action was shot in a top-notch way. The Motel shootout is one of the best I’ve seen, it’s just a shame that the finale couldn’t live-up to that scene. The film is completely action-packed, whilst still remaining focussed on its somewhat thin, but nevertheless involving wacky plotline. I was never bored, and was actually sorry to see it end.

Unfortunately for me I didn’t Nicolas Cage i this. I don’t like him in many things, other than Kick-Ass and Adaptation, here he’s his old wooden self. I did enjoy Amber Heard in this though, she’s always a joy to look at, and thankfully they didn’t perversly sexualise her as much as I thought, and she actually turned out to be a strong, likable kick-ass character!

So yes, plot is thin but the action and violence is quite the spectacle. The directing was in top gear and the pacing was break-neck. I cared about the characters and Milton’s ultimate quest. I quite liked how bizarre it was at times, and even had a certain Crow-cross-Terminator 2 feel about it, although of course it isn’t as good as those films! Drive Angry is a lot of fun, and actually much better than I was expecting!

Official Score: 3.5 / 5
