Ahh! I loved this movie growing up. How could anyone not?
I remember this when I was a kid and it freaked me out. When I watched it again it was still a pretty solid horror movie. The effects were really good and the acting was also pretty good. I love the plot about demons taking over a sububian house when a party is going on. Classic.
who doesnt love this movie, it had everything you could want in a horror directed for kids.
I just watched this movie the other night. I remember seeing it in theaters. I loved it then, and I still love it to this day. I’m so glad they’re re-releasing it on DVD in its widescreen format (at least I’m hoping it’s the true widescreen). If you haven’t seen this movie yet, chances are, now that you’re all grown up, you may not enjoy it. There are no deaths, very little to no gore, and its stars are kids. Actually, it’s Stephen Dorff’s first role, if I’m correct. But for me, it’s an entertaining movie. It has great special effects for its time, and even though the movie stars kids, they’re actually not bad actors. I highly recommend this movie, if you don’t enjoy it, oh well.
The 80s visuals are fun; but if you are into children monster movies from the 80s there are way better choices like “The Monster Squad”, “The Lost Boys” and “Gremlins 2″. This movie isnt worth your time!
God i love this movie. Growing up it scared me and amazed me.. It’s perfect.
Yup. As a little-little kid, this was a favorite of mine. Haven’t seen it forever, but I remember it fondly.
I remeber seeing this movie when I was like 9 or 10. I didn’t really like it that much but I should re-watch it I think.
One of my favourite horror movies as a kid. Watched it again a while ago and still enjoyed it!!
I’ve seen it a long time ago. It was considered high tech special effect in it’s time. It’s kiddy horror adventure gone raw.

this movie is great. i was 7 when it came out, the perfect age to fall for such cheesy sfx. scared the hell out of me. i remember jumping to my bed from 4 feet away for a long time. lol. if i watch it alone at night it still gets to me though. thats why i still love it.
Loved this movie so much as a kid I refuse to ever watch it again. I am afraid it won’t be the same and I want to remember it how I do now.
Really fun cheesy horror. This the first horror movie I made it through when I was a little kid. It still holds up and is damn fun if you like old school speacial effects. Also it is very fun to see young Stephen Dorff before he played Blade’s best villian.
its sort of strange about a month ago i decided to watch this movie again because i was about 7 or 8 when i last saw it haha fun and cheesy simple good 80′s horror
Go buy this movie now! It’s about time it got a good re-release on dvd, although they should have stuck with original cover art. It still holds up strong to this day. It’s not just for kids. The special effects are awesome. The dvd special features are great!
i love this film, scared the shit outta me when i was a nipper. watched again not long ago and it was still wicked
Not bad 80s kids horror movie. A little overrated, maybe. It’s nothing that will blow your mind or anything.
Fun!
Summoning demons by Heavy Metal. Sounds like a win-win.
a straight up classic. remembering seeing this one on some paychannel back in the day. fell in love instantly. stephen dorff’s best movie….sorry blade fans.
This movie scared the CRAP out of me when I was a kid. Re-watching it now, it’s actually still surprisingly effective. Of course, little creepy crawly demons and unlucky dogs will probably always freak me out.
enjoyable
i think this movie was great. not only is it a older movie but how well the effects were i forgot how old it was and the limitations they had. i wouldnt have noticed if it wasnt for there 80′s style. for how well they mix minitures and real life is mindblowing. some scenes i wondered how they did it, like when the dead constuction worker hit the ground and broke into the demons. if you ever see this movie on a shelf at a movie store and you have enought change in your pocket buy it. im glad i did
I dont know what I was thinking when I was 14 but this film was not that good sorry too say.
Cheesy but fully entertaining 80s cult classic with a really nice story, brilliant effects and a good cast. Always fun to watch!
I will have to say very good acting and character build up, but circa 2010-it doesn’t live up to this day. Maybe for a Nichelodeon flick hour or something. I took it out out my DVD and watched The Burning instead. Go there for my review on THAT movie.
Why anyone would judge a low budget 80′s cult classic by today’s film standards is beyond my comprehension. But then, I’m not a pecker trail either.
The Gate is one of the darkest, creepiest movies you will find for young viewers ever made. A fine cast of actors (Stephen Dorff as a tadpole!)and plenty of well done special effects high light this adventure in horror-fantasy. If made today (ie. remake!), it would feature half the heart, and more bad CGI than necessary. Check it out if you’re interested in some 80′s horror history, or you have a tween just getting started in the genre.
one of those movies u can watch over and over again
