THIS MOVIE IS SOOOOoooooo MUCH BETTER THAN #4!! I just got back from the theater… this movie has so much more balance then the others.. IT is a return to the first movie in the dark style and spooky feeling you get from it.. It is a ROLLERCOASTER RIDE from the start to the finish…The 3D is so cool.. the acting SO MUCH FREKING BETTER THAN 3 & 4…and the OMFG moments are there.. the death scenes disappoint a little for me.. But each are so unique and FUN.. I finally got that “SCARED” feeling again at the movies…I was Spooked during this movie.. and I haven thad that feeling since “FINAL DESTINATION” This series is once again AWAKE…VERY VERY GOOD!!! I GIVE IT A 9! Cant give it a 10 because it did lack some key plot extras that i would of liked to of seen!!!
They’ve finally done the FD sequel right. I wasn’t even interested in this one, it looked so cut and paste like, oh, I dunno… every one of the sequels so far in this franchise? Don’t get me wrong, it touches the usual bulletpoints of any Final Destination film. But somehow, they made the kills really suspenseful, and nothing quite turns out the way it seems it will. And kudos for not going over the top with the kills, either. By FD4, you just knew each kill was going to be this perfectly orchestrated series of events that probably had as much chance of happening in sequence as the alignment of every planet in the solar system. This movie felt right, and the ending was something special, too. Go see it, it’s even actually worth the well-done 3D effects. It had me so pumped, I ran home and popped in FD3, lol.
I wanna say that I loved it and that it was the best final destination and all that, but I really just didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as 1-3 (it’s obviously better than 4). I went in with high expectations, you can’t blame me, this moie was basically advertised as the best final destination film. I was so pumped at my midnight premiere, I was thrilled to be watching a new final destination, remembering how good it has to turn out to be! But what I got was basically the same of what #4 had to offer with just some better acting and a few twists here and there. Don’t get me wrong, I know the formula and I love it, the premonition, the deaths, but there was just this really bothersome rushed feeling throughout the entire middle part of the movie, things were happening randomly, and it didn’t feel like it was moving a smooth pace at all. There are literally only about 5 characters and basically all of their deaths have been spoiled in the previews or are hardly worth the anticipation. I will say however that the gymnastics scene and the bridge collapse premonition were both a great deal of fun to watch. But aside from that, everything else fell short from what I was expecting. It’s easily not as dark as FD 1-3. It’s between the annoying campiness of the fourth and the fun dark humor of fd3. And to be honest in my opinion Fd3s comedy is as campy as it should ever get in an FD film. The 3D was honestly not very amazing /: I mean maybe I just expected way too much but I was just not satisfied with it, I never once flinched with the 3D and I actually did flinch in TFD in one or two parts which is sad considering Quale being so experienced with the 3D, I actually felt that the 3D popping at you scenes looked much too ridiculous. And speaking of ridiculous, the awful cgi from TFD is back ): not as terrible but still there, I don’t understand why they do such over the top gore if they can’t make it look realistic, FD1-3 NEVER looked so fake that it took away from the experience, but here, it’s an over load of cg that just makes you kinda think “really? Seriously?”. I rather watch the simple yet awesome and most importantly realistic deaths of Evan or Tim in FD2 than watch these outrageous fake looking death sequences. I reallly expected more from the gore department. It isn’t a terrible movie, and it’s an enjoyable time at the movies, and it has solid acting and story telling this time around, along with a pretty interesting ending. but the campy feeling, too-quick pace, and fake looking cgi just take away so much from what final destination should be /: for now I still see my beloved Final Destination franchise as a Trilogy with this one holding a decent spot as a Okay installment (the fourth is garbage let’s not relive it). So in the end, did I enjoy it, yes, was it awesome, no, but was it a passable and enjoyable final destination entry, definitely
I liked this movie, I really did, but I truly expected more from what should have been the best Final Destination
7.5/10
I saw the midnight showing. It was the definitely the best Final Destination movie since the first and second one. The opening scene was bad ass and the kills were extremely suspenseful and violent. What more could you ask for from a final destinaltion film. I have to say, the last 5 minutes of the film really made me appreciate this film so much. Go see it, it is definitely worth it
Such an enjoyable film to watch and I hope the last film didn’t leave such a bad taste that this one does poorly. Final Destination 5 is a well crafted shocker where nearly all the deaths come as a complete surprise and the ending hit me like the shocker in ‘Orphan’. Such a brilliant FIFTH film in a franchise really goes to show what horror’s about. This film returns to the grass roots of number one with a dark, brooding atmosphere, yet somehow injects the character humor that I loved in no.4. Its even funnier this time around! The opening disaster is TOP NOTCH.Unbelievable how they did it. Just the right amount of character development and cheesy acting, and of course, Todd’s return is LONG overdue. Can’t wait to see what they’ll do next with this flagship horror juggernaut. It’s fast becoming a classic series in my mind and has even won the hearts of the series’ major critics, but the fans loved it. The Final Destination series is certainly, a sweet and seductive must-see for horror fans and thrill-seekers alike. What are you still reading this for? Go buy a Goddamn ticket!
POTENTIAL SPOILERS
Seriously? Did we all watch the same movie? This is hardly the best sequel and it’s no where near as “shocking” as what everyone is claiming it to be. The twist was half-assed and absolutely nothing new was added to the formula– which REALLY bums me out because they could have really played on the “kill or be killed” thing that we see in the previews (unfortunately, that whole bit isn’t used until the climax and it only centers around an annoying character’s self-righteous “heartbreak”).
On the plus side, Tony Todd is great to see (as always). Some of the gore is kinda neat. Some of the setups to the deaths are fun– not exactly suspenseful, but let’s just say that a few death scenes don’t go down how you think they will (Gymnastics and massage scenes in particular). If that’s your thing, then you’re gonna like the movie as a whole. Personally I think it’s stale.
The 3D is pretty decent too. No post-conversion, depth-only nonsense here; this is in your face, legit 3D.
Honestly, I enjoyed number 4 more than this one.At least I had fun making fun of that one. It’s kind of sad when the highlight of my theater experience was finally getting to see the Shark Night 3D trailer in 3D.
I myself was caught up by the hype and attended a midnight premiere only to come out disappointed. Another barrage of obnoxious characters bad acting and piss poor storytelling. Honestly the series potentials have been squandered since part 2. The new elements are breifly used at best and the twist ending confuses the series. The effects are good and the opening accident is awesome in 3d.
Welcome back Final Destination, how we’ve missed you.
The original FD was such a refreshing twist on the standard “dead teenager movie”. It was extremely fierce, nasty, dark and did something that most slasher/horror films rarely does- It offered audiences something to think about once they left the theaters.
Behind the outstanding death scenes there was a STORY, characters you cared about, and a brilliant mythology just waiting to be explored further. FD had so much more going for it than just “cool deaths”. Then FD2 came around and while it turned the grizzly death sequences up a thousand notches, it also delved deeper into the mythology while also connecting the story and characters in that film beautifully with the original. It was one of those rare sequels that almost outdoes the first.
But things started going downhill come the third entry in the series. Now, FD3 was the most fun film in my opinion. It was beautifully directed and seriously had some of the most iconic kills in the series. So while FD3 is a fav of mine and definitely a solid enough entry-the film failed to continue the story. It was pretty much a retread. Gone was the cleverness and mythology, all we had was super stereotyped teens dying one by one in admittedly BRILLIANT ways but…That was it. There was no meat. Nothing to think about. No one to care about.
And then came FD4. This one made FD3 look like an Oscar winner. Like the one before it, FD4 chose to go for the kills instead of the story and what we got was a complete abomination. There was such a downgrade in quality from the first three films that I’m surprised it was directed by David Ellis, the same guy who blessed us with FD2. Seriously, what in the hell happened between 2003 and 2009? Was he high when he made FD4? The film was crap. Utter crap. You know a FD movie sucks when not even the DEATHS are satisfying. Just an embarrassing mess all around.
But the series has found redemption in FD5. There was no way they could churn out another TFD. Either they would get their shit together and put out a proper sequel or they would just leave the series be. I prayed for the former and I’m happy to say my wish came true.
Final Destination 5 is definitely one of the better entries in the series, it’s totally on par with the first two films. The deaths are nasty and cruel, a bit over the top, but what FD death isn’t? The 3D was PHENOMENAL, definitely better than TFD’s. And oh my lawd! What’s that? Character development? YES! It’s back. This film has plenty of scenes where you as the viewer can just sit and chill with the characters. Unlike previous entries, it’s not a race to get to the next death scene. Casual fans of course won’t notice stuff like this, but us hardcore fans will and we appreciate it.
After two films of “KILL KILL KILL” it feels odd(but great) to have a sequel with characters that feel like REAL people. But this isn’t a drama, so the character development and downtime is nicely balanced with the gruesome deaths. Yes, this film is VERY nicely paced. Quale’s directing is top notch, he channels the direction from the first two films while also putting his own spin on it. And the ending…is a HUGE shocker. Such a shocker that it alone warrants a ticket.
For the negatives- There are some deaths that would have been more epic if they weren’t featured in the TV spots. A lot of the good “out of the blue” deaths are shown in TV spots, thus making them less shocking when you watch the film. Let’s hope they cut down on that come FD6.
The music was great, but I would’ve loved to hear a bit of the classic theme at least in one or two scenes.
While more was added to the mythology, we still don’t know why they get the premonitions in the first place. Come on now, we’re five films in and still don’t have any answers to this stuff? In the film Sam sorta mentions that maybe the force that gave him the premonition wants him to live, obviously hinting that maybe there’s an opposite force out there trying to save people from death. But that isn’t expanded upon at all and is treated like a throw away line. PLEASE, if you guys make a 6th then gives us some damn answers!
Other than that-the film was brilliant. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Try not to go in with huge expectations, just go in expecting a fun ride and you’ll get it. I see a reviewer down below has given it one star and I just rolled my eyes. No way does this film deserve one star(or skull) even if you didn’t like it that much.
Anyway, This was a satisfying entry. I almost think they should leave it here.
This movie was so amazing. It had everything you would want in a Final Destination film. Great kills, an actual story this time around, characters you want to live, the CGI and FX were beyond great, and wow, a twist that will blow your mind. Best sequel in the franchise. Let’s hope this makes enough money to warrant a sixth entry. I’ve never seen people “fix” a franchise before, but, after the dreadful “The Final Destination”, they sure as hell fixed every mistake they made! They really did an amazing job with this. I thank them so much for caring about the fans. 10/10
i’d feel guilty not giving this a 10/10 because it was so much freaking fun.. had me smiling the entire way through.. the 3D was “actually” good.. the acting was good enough for a horror flick and the ending flipped the whole god damn series on its face.. i loved it! and not to mention – loved the gymnast death scene.. brutalllllll
prettty damn gooodd awesome sequel great twist
This sucked. Every kill was over done with CGI. The whole movie seems fast paced and leaves hardly any suspense. this franchise was NOT fixed. there is a cool twist in the movie but it doesnt make up for the wasted time i spent in the theater.
This movie ROCKED!!! Just go see it. I had such a damn good time – I was totally not expecting it to be so much fun. Awesome death scenes, the ones that make you yell ohhhh, nice gore, surprisingly good acting, really cool twist/ending, and the special effects and 3D were BEAUTIFUL. Basically it had EVERYTHING the shitty 4th one didn’t. The beginning accident was super intense and the suspense literally didn’t let up until the end credits – and that’s what I noticed was great – nothing felt rushed at all. I seriously hope they keep the same writer and director for the next sequel cuz they went over and beyond. I can’t think of anything else to say except if you’re a final destination fan like me then you’re in for a hell of a good time. Oh and I love Emma Bell
Unnecessary use of ugly cgi. They really couldn’t have made a fake eyeball and smashed it with a car?
In my oponion, the second best in the franchise! My favorite one is the third one.
Final Destination: Awesome
Final Destination 2: Just as great
Final Destination 3: My favorite one
Final Destination 4: I liked it
Final Destination 5: My second favorite
The opening scene was fantastic, the performances were awesome, along with the great music score and one hell of a shocking twist at the end. Also, after the film, I was so happy with the last few minutes.
Highly recommended!!
Though it’s gonna be tough for any of these sequels to ever touch the 1st (maybe even the 3rd), this one, IMO, gets as close as it’s gonna get.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Obviously, some in the audience weren’t as joyous as I was, as it seemed there were many moments that I only heard my “Hell yeah”s and maniacal giggles at the creativity of the kills.
Though there are, obviously, some “off” CGI from time to time, Final Dest 5 gives us what we want…and it does it well. (Because of–only occasionally–the noticeable CGI, I can’t give it a full rating.)
Spoiler alert but anyway this movie was great but i have a question now should they make more prequels since in this one Todd said he had seen this before and this would technically be before the first so that means that it has or may have happened many times before.
I freaking loved this movie!!! 3D was definitely the way to go! I thought the plot was really well developed, and the ending was AWESOME. I left the theater shaking like a leaf, a very satisfied leaf. This series was one that I only watched for the deaths, which this movie definitely delivered, but the suspense and set ups leading up to the deaths was truly amazing.
However, I do not think they should make another fd movie unless it’s a spinoff of sorts explaining Mr.Bludworth, and his story. If they hadn’t have made Final Destination 4 and instead made this one after 3, it would’ve been a great ending for the fd series.
Above average slasher movie without a killer!
The 3D gore was truly awesome. Such an entertaining theater experience.
Its a smart enough movie and great sequel, but even without the 3D it is probably a good watch.
Way better than the last one which makes me very happy because I couldn’t stand it but this one was a bloody good time like the others. #3 is still my favorite but this one is good too.
This was easily the best of the series! I loved the pacing of the death scenes, using suspense to really draw out and add depth, something part 3 and 4 lacked. Overall, this was a fresh welcome back to the franchise and I hope to see an even better part 6!!!
I mean, hell, it’s the fourth sequel in a franchise that should’ve died two movies ago. Under the circumstances, it’s a fucking spectacular film.
As a standalone, it’s also a fucking SPECTACULAR film.
As a self-proclaimed detractor of 3D, I loved the use of it in FD5. It wasn’t overdone, nor was it headache inducing.
And talk about suspense! I forgot what it was like to have a horror movie make my heart leap down to my feet and back up through my skull!
I adore how it connects to the previous entries, and the humor is actually tasteful in this one, as opposed to the incredibly campy nature of The Final Destination.
So yeah! Good stuff! I’m sure it’s fine in 2D too, but I can honestly say this is the best film I’ve seen in 3D.
Such a huge step up from the last 2 films. I even think this is better than the original. But it’s a blast! Have to see it again, this time in 3D.
The bridge collapse was sensational, but afterwards, while the kills were certainly ‘inventive’, there just seemed like something was missing. The character development and storyline subsequent to the disaster were arguably the weakest in the franchise. Regardless, it was still a bloody fun time, and fans of the first four should still enjoy this entry. And the last five minutes of the film were priceless!
First 90 minutes: 7/10
Last 5 minutes: 10/10
This is the antidote on how to end a series on a high note and they should end things here because if they don’t it will just be an insult to fans, at least this one. I would have never guess that the next installment of the Final Destination series would be the most suspenseful, twists galore, brilliant, most inventive deaths, though the third one was good times and the most twisted, disturbing one especially after watching the most lackluster one The Final Destination (4), it was a pleasant surprise in the biggest form. I’m surprised to say that this movie brings 3D technology back on my good side and is an actual film that shows that it was actually meant for 3D and not just a cover up and distraction to cash in more dough but of all the horror films out there that was in 3D this is the grandest of them all and is the best use of 3D ever! It comes to show that you can revive anything if you get fresh solid talent of new a director that is Steven Quale and better writing and cast all great ingredients for success, maybe that’s what Scream 4 needed, I mean even the marketing was better. The surprise factor that has been missing since the first one is now back with a vengeance with a couple of twist that flips the entire series for the better and I have never seen any better executed death sequences in a horror film in a very long time and brings the fun factor back to horror films that has been missing since the first two Screams thanks to the torture porn, home invasions, found footage films as of late and it was a familiar face but a welcome, refreshing return to form and I loved it! Overall this might as well be the best and most entertaining and satisfying horror film of 2011, thanks Steven Quale this series and fans needed you. Highly recommended!! See it in 3D, heck even in IMAX 3D this film deserves your support.
Much improved sequel than part 4. But that’s not saying much, I enjoyed the characters this time around, much more than any of the other characters in the other films. The opening credits were jaw dropping, and of course the bridge collapse was excellent. The death scenes were a mix of being brutal and combining that tongue in the cheek humor, that goes on in the Final Destination series. The ending was nicely done, (loved the tribute to the first film). This definitely the best sequel and quite possibly better than the first. Definitely an improved film.
Hard to say if it’s the better than the 2nd one but just the fact i need to think about is good enough. See it if you love the series, so good.
What a great way to redeem the series after the last one. I enjoyed every minute of it, and loved the build-up to some of the deaths. This one actually made me cringe and jump a few times, and definitely shines through as an improvement. I think it is my favorite of the series, and I loved the big twist. I would be okay with knowing it is the last entry.
Possibly the best sequel to date. A huge improvement from wretched last one. And they took advantage of the 3D, it actually had depth, a great use of the 3D. The acting was better than the last one also.Loved the twist ending, that would sure make fans happy. A great sequel.
I agree with most of the reviews, this is really a breath of fresh air in the franchise since part 2. The kills were pretty cool and the story wasn’t that bad, although its not that different obviously. What made the movie for me was that they tied it all in with the first movie and in reality this is a prequel. Anyways, miles better than the previous film and one of the best sequels in the franchise. Really glad they went back to basics, watch it now!!!
Woaa, After The Shitty Fourth Film iWas Sketchy About This One. But This Turned Out To Be One Of The Best In The Series. Amazinq Twist, Great Deaths. This Is Horror At Its Finest, You Get Chills, Lauqhs, And Loads Of Blood. Some Scenes Even Had My Heart Racinq, And iDont Get That Much Often Anymore. Tony Todd Was Great, The Endinq Was The Greatest, Usually For The Final Destination Films The Openinq Scene Is The Best Part. So Thats Sayinq Somthinq! Brinq On More Deaths In Another FD Movie, iHavent Had Enouqh. (:
Yup, this one truly takes the cake. My God, it was an AMAZINGGG step up from the god-awful fourth film, and truly a GREAT sequel. I love all the series sans the fourth, and this was the true follow up to me for FD3. I honestly can say without a doubt it’s the best 3D horror movie yet made.
This movie is amazing! I loved every aspect of it! It’s well worth seeing it in imax 3d! The death scenes were elaborate! It is the best sequel! Hell, I’ll even compare it to the original!
this franchise started to decline with Final Destination 3. final destination 4… nuff said. however final destination 5 with its elaborate deaths that keep you guessing, the 3d scenes and the huge ending twist, well its safe to say that final destination 5 has renewed the interest of the series and in my opinion is better then the original
Is what it is. Terrible acting, extreme gore and laughs. It’s #5.. I think everyone knows what to expect. Its pretty damn fun.
Is what it is. Terrible acting, extreme gore and laughs. It’s #5.. I think everyone knows what to expect. Its pretty damn fun.
without a doubt the best FD film since the first two films. The ending MAKES this film for me! as well as the awesome deaths.
It’s an improvement, but still isn’t the best sequel. Can’t believe it’s being compared to the original.
The original film was great because it was well written, acted and shot. It took itself SERIOUSLY. It was cinematic and although the death scenes weren’t as elaborate (or gory) as its sequels, it left far more of an impact because it seemed pretty damn real (well, compared to the rest)… It just had a great way of instilling dread and tension. The reason the sequels have suffered is because they’ve prioritized extreme, campy death sequences over character development and suspense.
I will admit, this film completely nailed the atmosphere of the original in the first actual death sequence. The setup was tremendous and came together perfectly. Even though it was gruesome, people were gasping as opposed to laughing. After that, each death sequence became cheesier and cheesier, making me wonder if the writers lost track of what made the original so great.
Another problem is in the acting and character development. The characters have jobs, unlike the last one, but don’t have any chemistry at all. They don’t really hang out, or have any conversations about what’s going on beyond silly banter. Even when they do get together, they seem like they have better places to be- except the film isn’t deep enough to explore any further than how they die.
There are some subplots like an investigation and new mythology. Sadly, the investigation just seemed like a cheap, easier version of the original’s investigation, which was much more realistic in that they were closing in on the lead (who has the “vision”) as a murder suspect. Although the new mythology adds some interest, you can probably guess it only sets the stage for more insane death.
Although this film does carry more of a plot, it only serves to make death sequences more interesting, but isn’t utilized very well. This sequel packs a pretty big punch in the end, but it still felt more clever than shocking.
In the end, it’s a fun 3D movie that really could have been worse (see The Final Destination).
I didn’t see this one in 3D so perhaps I missed the best thing about this movie. Because it certainly wasn’t the script or the effects. The deaths are certainly over-the-top and gruesome but they take on a cartoony quality when they are all CGI. I think every death here employs CGI and it really makes the whole thing less immediate and shocking. Practical gore effects are gross and in your face. CGI gore effects have no substance or weight and always, always, look like they were created in a computer. Re-watching the original Fright Night last night in preparation for the remake, I was struck at how practical gore and make-up effects really lend an atmosphere of authenticity and visceralness to death. I did have fun in this film trying to figure out which famous stars the actors resembled. It was like watching scenes with young Tom Cruise, Wentworth Miller, Anne Heche and Catherine Zeta-Jones. No one is truly bad in this movie, they’re just given bad things to say and do — some of the dialogue here made me wince. But I will give this movie props for the ending which I didn’t see coming and which may save the entire movie from being a footnote. Is it the best of the series? Kind of hard to say when all of these films are basically the same but I can’t say I didn’t have fun.
Not a big surprise that the acting was atrocious, since, everybody who was showing up to watch this was only looking for one thing, OVER THE TOP VIOLENCE! I think Final Destination 5 did just that. This installment has plenty of memorable kills, from the obvious opening sequence, to my personal favorite which takes place in the gymnasium scene. In the end you get what you pay for, leaving you with a satisfying ending that was not only clever, but needed.
Certainly similar to the other Final Destinations…but better than most of them. I enjoy some good gore, so i enjoyed this one a lot. Def worth a watch if you like the other films, but any horror fan would enjoy this one.
This was the best one of the series yet, I really enjoyed and was extremely surprise that I liked it. I thought it was different from the rest and the story line was great. The deaths were gory & creative as always but something I reeaaaally like, was that the movie wasn’t fully predictable. I recommend it!
SPOILERS IN REVIEW
Let me start off by saying that I thought this movie was good. Great, in fact. I simply don’t see why so many people think it was better than the rest. It did have some awesome kills, with suspense that kept you on the edge of your seat wondering when and how someone was going to bite it.
Yet for me, the opening sequence seemed fairly tame when held up against the rest. It’s not that I want more blood or anything – there was plenty of that – I mean tame more in the sense that they weren’t very original kills. Except for perhaps the one with the tar. That was a good one. But the biggest problem with this sequence, for me, was the way Sam acted upon realizing what would happen. He didn’t freak out, not really. He simply said, “Hey, the bridge will collapse.” Then he grabs his girlfriend and runs, and for some reason at least five people follow.
Beyond all of this, however, lies one great movie. It keeps you in suspense the entire time, and adds a new rule – you kill someone, they take your place in the chain – but of course Death can’t be after them already.
The ending was definitely a shock, though in a truly fantastic way. It shouldn’t have been, though. I don’t know why I didn’t piece it together, because every time he mentioned going to Paris, I thought, “That’s where Flight 180 was headed.” Then, suprise! They’re on a plane set for Paris, when who do we see? Alex, freaking out about the fact that the plane will explode. At that point I jumped up in my chair and shouted No! Then I started telling them to get the hell off the plane, though of course I knew they wouldn’t. Because, as always, Flight 180 exploded on takeoff.
First and third deaths have good suspense and tension build up. Rest were ok.
The only reason I’m giving it 3 instead of 2 is because of the ending. I used to agree with all of Brad’s reviews up until now.
i almost think i enjoyed TFD better, but this one still rocked!
Definitely a breath of fresh air after the last two. I’m not sure where the difference was but somehow the third and fourth were very corny and this element was gone in FD5. I don’t want to say it was best in the franchise since it has been a while since I saw the first two but it definitely was at least up to par with those. Worth the theater money by far especially to have the 3D (which I rarely pay for). Ending is amazing along with the new rule. Don’t let 3 and 4 discourage a viewing.
Not bad. Not bad at all. The Final Destination series still can pack a punch (that gymnastics death… LOVED IT). Nobody in the cast is particularly great (apart from Miles Fisher with a surprisingly gripping performance). Also a GREAT twist ending (which should have been the very end of the movie).
Better than 3 and 4. I’d tie it with the second one. The suspense is back and there are some cool things they added to the standard formula of the series. Throw in some twists and turns and the usual gore and you have a fun welcome addition to the series.
It is not a new miracle, but a very funny movie.
BEST ONE OUT OF THE SERIES AND AWESOME TWIST… ID SAY ALMOST BEETER THEN THE FIRST ONE…
Hell Yeah!!! this movie is effin awesome and fun as hell! bringing the series back! clever kills, nice tie in, surprising, acting wasn’t completely shit, and it was funny. had me a little on edge, loved how the kills were drawn out not what you were expecting. and that ending, Damn! didn’t see it coming.
seems they really turned the series around with this one. this was the first movie i have seen in 3d and it was awesome. the opening scenes on the bridge were very tense and realistic. i would definetly recommend checking this one out in the theatre and in 3d.
Very good movie, does what you would expect, hold your interest, great bloody deaths, and is visually stunning in 3-d.
Easily the best in the franchise. They really fucked up Final Destination 4. So this was definitely a comeback. The kills were over the top gorey fun. All In All, The kills are what people mainly go see these movies for and Final Destination 5 doesn’t upset.
Apart from some nice 3D effects, I want to quote my favorite review of the movie by Jim Slotek
“I do think it’s a little unfair when I see the same film over and over, and I have to keep coming up with something new to say about it.”
It was ok, I enjoyed it but thought it dragged a little. Cool death scenes though. Part 1 still my favorite.
Death doesn’t like to be cheated and you won’t feel cheated either if you go and see this.
very good movie good kills the 3d was well done story made sense ending was amazing. but i disagree still not better then 2. FD order should go. 1,2,5,3,4. cause lets face it 4 was just bad really bad
This was an awesome sequel ! It had pretty gory death scenes and the acting was great, I’d definietly recommend it.
I’m sorry and this is really rare to go againt bd and user’s but I did not care for this movie. Not as bad as four but not as good as the first 3! The acting was terrible! It got on my nerves! 3D was amazzzing probably the best Ive seen so far and the accident scene was great but after that it got boring as hell and the kills were WAY to over the top and not believable. Only for shock value. Maybe the franchise is just getting old idk.
Very simple
The best of the series
I just got back from seeing Final Destination 5,
it was awesome, the 3D was phenomenal, the best 3D Movie EVER,
The bridge scene was gruesome to the max, (10X Better then pile up in FD2) this movie was fantastic, 100 out of 100.
I will be seeing this movie again on Monday , some of the deaths scene were gory and fun and this is without a doubt the best movie in the series
This movie is now been entered in to my top ten movie list and Final Destination 5 is my fourth favorite movie of all time!
Wow! Wow! Wow!
After the disappointing 4th part, my expectations for another FDin3D flick were very, VERY low.
Yet, to my surprise, this one turned out to be the best sequel of the whole series!! Director Steven Quale
and script writer Eric Heisserer created an amazing movie which is totally on a par with the very first Final Destination, not only in terms of tension and suspense, but also in terms of action, fun and entertainment.
Everything that made me enjoy the first 3 parts, and everything they forgot to put into Part 4, is in here.
- It’s super-thrilling and highly suspenseful from beginning to end. Only a few almost unnoticeable pacing problems in the first half.
- The acting is superb (Nicholas D’Agosto, Tony Todd, the smart “Tom Cruise look-a-like” Miles Fisher, the hyper-gorgeous Jacqueline MacInnes Wood…) and the characters are all quite believable.
- The awesome blend of gimmicky 3D and in-depth-3D looks almost perfect.
- Great camera work and editing, terrific soundtrack.
Highlight #1: The Deaths
Hell Yeah, FD5 delivers a few of the best death scenes since the 2nd part,
f.e. the mega-gruesome gymnastics scene, the stinging/fiery asia spa scene, the painful laser eye surgery, various crushed heads and of course the incredibly impressive supergory bridge-collapse opening massacre.
Highlight #2: The Ending
!!MAJOR SPOILER!! Best ending I’ve seen in a very long time – I mean, who would have thought that Part 5 is actually a kinda-prequel to the original? My goodness, the moment when they showed a few characters from the 1st movie and I instantly realized that this is Flight 180, was easily the biggest OMGWTF???-moment of the year. Mindblowingly awesome!
An absolutely kick-ass Final Destination movie. Definitely one of 2011′s biggest surprises!
This movie went where it needed to go and then some. Tony Todd as usual saves it from getting boring and seems to play an angel of death or the grim reaper type of character. I like him in Candyman which caught everyone’s attention to his talent. The CG on the bridge was well done and it reminded me of the Mothman Prophesies. The way people died was well thought out. These guys are ghoulish to come up with so many ways to die! (1000 ways to die?) They should come out with another one like this. It was well done.
lots of fun!
I was able to watch this movie today at the cinemas with my parents. And I have to say that I enjoyed this movie. I really like it so far and it was really good and it is scarier than the first four Final Destination films. The plot of this movie takes place before the first four Final Destination films and what I did like about this movie is that they changed the concept of this movie and the film is even darker and scarier than the first four Final Destination films. This movie really brought the suspense back on the big screen and the suspense is non stop and intense. The opening scene was great I was freaking out towards that scene because it was intense and suspenceful. What I also like about this movie is that they use visual effects instead of that boring CGI effects from Final Destination 4 in which it received negative reviews from critics. While the opening sequence was great all the kills are brutal, intense, scary and gory as well. The Laser Eye Surgery really freaked me out and I squirmed in that scene so far because that is one of the goriest and the scariest kills out of all the Final Destination films. The acupuncture death scene was intense and it was a brilliant kill scene and that is also one of the most intense kill scenes next to the laser eye surgery kill scene. Dennis’s death scene in which the wrench hits his eyes is one of the most brutal kill scenes in Final Destination 5 oh and let’s not forget the death scene when Candice breaks her body after she suddenly let’s go of the swinging pole when she gets distracted while swinging in the pole that was also a brutal kill scene as well. I was also glad that the blood isn’t CGI at all because the CGI blood in Final Destination 4 was really bad and it was much worse than the CGI blood in Wrong turn 3 Left For Dead even The Midnight Meat Train CGI blood. Here they didn’t use any CGI at all. The acting is also good so far all the casts even the main protagonist in the film did a good job with their performances in the film and Tony Todd did a good job reprising his role as William Bludworth who also appeared in Final Destination 1 and 2. It was too bad I didn’t get to watch this film in 3D but from what I can tell the 3D is well executed in Final Destination 5 than the 3D in Final Destination 4. The directing of Steven Quale is impressive and he knows what he’s doing so far and the script by Eric Heisserer is really nice and Steve and Eric finally brought the series back to it’s serious and gory roots only that it has a darker story than part 1-4. Overall Final Destination 5 is the best Final Destination film in the Final Destination series.
We’ve all seen the first 4, we all know the score here. Disaster then death. That’s basically it but what makes them so popular? The outrageous death scenes? the opening disaster? Well in this sequel it’s a combination of both plus brilliant directing and good characters. I didn’t particulary like the first one, but I loved the second, liked the third and sort of felt cheated by the fourth, now unusually its this fith one that puts it on par with the scond, or maybe actually better!
Let’s start with the opening. We all know the opening is usually the best bit, well this is certainly no disappointment what so ever! The bridge collapse is easily the best disaster from any other final destination film. It is completely insane and horrorific and will have any gore-hound delighted with the sheer carnage that caresses the screen. The special effects are nothing short of amazing and the tension is fantastic! Even though you know that they’ll all going to die in the opening, you actually feel quite scared for them and find yourself biting your nails at the suspense of the suspension falling. The opening is just one reason alone to see it.
Then we’re introduced to the charcters who are actually quite likable, even the ones who are obviously meant to be unlikable actually have a character and even though the fat womaniser is a horrible character, he was quite funny to watch. The first death is a masterclass in suspense, it had my heart pounding about a little prick (stop it!) The directing by Steven is incredible. It’s taken seriously and is full on high tension (a bit like Aja’s directing in “High Tension”).
This is what sets “Final Destination 5″ apart from all the other films in the franchise. It is actually tense and fun at the same time. The death scenes are easily the goriest yet. The laser eye surgery bit had me squirming and cringing in my seat (I can’t deal with eyes) and even the death scenes without eyes were really intense and quite shocking.
If you’re a fan of the “Final Destination” series, then without a doubt you must see this (I suppose you would anyway if your a fan) and seeing it in 3D only enhances the shock value! It’s full on suspense, tension and great gore. The ending is also quite clever but not as great as everyone’s saying. My only complaint would be it wasn’t long enough, I could have see more. Anywho see it, it’s worth your hard earned money.
If you were disappointed with “The Final Destination”, and have doubts about seeing this latest installment, well have no fear! This was a huge improvement to the franchise and IMO the best sequel. While still not as great as the first, it comes pretty darn close! And the ending was a huge surprise as well. I was impressed with the acting and every character was convincing in their last moment of life.
FD5 also has my favorite death. A very brutal death that’s as realistic and and crazy as it looks. I don’t want to spoil anything, but this movie is worth every penny if given the chance to watch! I wouldn’t mind seeing it in 3D again for the brutal experience!
In a word… PERFECT. With great deaths, an excellent cast, and what is, in my opinion, one of the best twist endings EVER, Final Destination 5 is undoubtedly one of the best films of the year. A HUGE triumph over The Final Destination, FD5 goes back to basics with a more serious approach and more gore. Plus, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood is GORGEOUS.
Holy shit, where did this movie come from?!? The 4th FD was absolutely terrible, but this is easily the best of the franchise. The first one might have more depth in storytelling, but FD5 compensates by having the best deaths of the series. It’s worth watching for the bridge disaster scene alone. This movie kicks ass and was an unexpected treat.
PERFECTION! my favorite of the series. Loved every minute of it. The cast, acting, death scenes, tension, story, pacing, ending, were all amazing. Love Nicholas D’Agosto & Emma Bell. They were great together. Very well done.
I personally reckon it’s the best one so far it had everything humour, Blood & Gore, Action it was real fun watching it in 3D at the movies. The 3D has improved alot it was used very well in FD5. If there going to make 6 & 7. They must bring back Steven Quale & Eric Heisserer they did a great job and there the way forward in the FD Series. They made a really good team and came up with some really good kills.
Decent sequel compared to others in the franchise. But it’s time to hang it up.
I don’t really see all the hype around this film.
The kills were less than average and as for the plot it was the same old junk recycled.
Stop making the same movie!
Let me start by saying that I love Final Destination movies, I find them incredibly fun to watch. Yes, I even enjoyed The Final Destination (it’s actually my second favorite in the series, with Final Destination 5 being my favorite). When I saw the trailer for FD5, I knew I was in for something good. So when it came out in the theater on the first day, my friend and I rushed there and made sure we were one of the first. It was a success. The theater was packed, which was pretty cool. We put on the 3D glasses and the movie starts. The 3D was already put to awesome use in the opening sequence with all those bloody glass shards flying at me. The gory and bloody deaths were amazing and gruesome, and were much more realistic than the ones in FD4. I also loved the effects (the opening disaster? Wow, incredible). The tension building up to the deaths was pretty goddamn high (gymnastics scene much?) The whole movie had a nice and dark feeling to it, the darkest and most evil of the entire series. The acting was better this time around with the characters also being more likeable. What I really liked was the reappearance of William Bludworth, the coroner, he was just fantastic. He told the characters about a rule in cheating death that’s never been heard of in the previous installments, which was pretty awesome and fresh. Oh, my favorite part! THE ENDING! The ending alone is worth seeing the movie (MAJOR FUCKING SPOILERS!!) When I saw that plane, and then Alex from the first movie, I was SO shocked! Flight 180! I was amazed by that incredible twist! Seriously, one of the best endings I’ve seen in a while. By the time Nathan got squashed by the flaming wheel of the plane, the entire audience cheered and so did I (SPOILERS END). I walked out of the theater very happy, and about a month and a half later I’m still very happy writing this review. Bravo Steven Quale, bravo! Excellent movie!
I was a huge fan of Final Destination 1 and 2, but I kind of lost my love for the franchise as the other sequels hit, I didnt want to see this sequel that much but I decided I would give it a try, and im glad I did. The movie starts out dark with the BEST opening credit scene in movie history, a true use of 3D. After the credits we are treated with some Character developement, something 3 & 4 lacked. The Bridge collapse was not only well done, but the tension and suspense was there. I was truly scared for the characters and what there final destination would be. This movie had the best death thus far, the gymnastic one and lazer eye surgery being my top favorite! The new rule of taking a life for death should of been used more, but it was unique and gave this sequel something that the others didn’t. Final Destination 5 is the best Final Destination to date. I saw this twice because the 3D was so well done and the movie did such a great job bringing death back. Highly recomend.
it was decent
Better than the original, in my opinion. This movie is as generic as it’s sisters, but I’m sure if we skipped two, three, and four, I would be content with just watching one and five.
Another solid addition to the series. Death scenes are decent, nothing to really complain about. Has a surprise at the end that will shock you out of your seat.
Worth a watch. Entertaining. Don’t expect to be scared silly though.
A fun and suspenseful entry into the Final Destination saga. The kills were brutal and more realistically rendered than the fourth and third films. The twist at the end was amazing! The only downside was the acting…which left something to be desired. All in all one if not the best FD film.
Lovee itt
I knew there was a good reason to continue watching these movies after the 2nd one, it’s because it was leading up to this one. And I didn’t like it because there was a good twist in it (although that was a tiny part of it), I liked it because it felt more like the first one. It was a little darker than the previous few, and much better than the last one. Granted, the deaths are still exTREMELY unrealistic, but I’m not really picky about that since the whole premise is unrealistic. But seriously, that wrench scene still bugs me. I mean, that thing was only spinning at around 180rpms! Still, I think we’ve just saved the slight downward trend of the Final Destination movies. This one had good characters, great deaths, and a pretty cool disaster scene.
Great movie, this definitely one of the better sequels of the Final Destination Franchise. I also love the ending as well, it’s such a great twist and it also great 3D technology.
best since first, the bridge scenes are breathtakingly realistic, was fun in 3d in theaters, very suspensful for a change, loved it
Never really felt the tension. Certainly wasn’t scary. But ya know, it was a hell of a popcorn movie/roller coaster ride. Pleasantly surprised and worth a watch on Saturday night
Wooow!!! This movie rocks! Best in the franchise & the ending will blow u away!
If this film was the only one from this franchise I would appreciate the concept, however the fact that this film has now outlived its welcome in this genre makes me disappointed that there wasnâe(TM)t as much of a surprise as I was anticipating. Similar in concept as the saw films this prequel did have some good points, the deaths were a lot more inventive and the acting was marginally improved, the characters, which were still annoying, did seem to commit to their roles more than the dumb blondeâe(TM)s portrayed in the latter films. The fact that number four was âeoeThe Final Destinationâe meant I was surprised to find they were making another however I have to admit these films are my guilty pleasures as a horror critic, the imagination which goes into the deaths could be collected in buckets. If this is the final film, as the ending is the beginning of the 1st, therefore it will be hard to make anymore, it will have finished on a high note. Not worthy of any more stars than I am giving it but a good one time watch.5/10.
As “Final Destination 5″ begins, so does the opening titles credits sequence; which is probably one of the coolest I’ve seen not only out of the entire 5-film series, but also out of any modern horror flick at all. It’s the sort of radical, charged, energetic work of high-power technology that gets my blood pumping for the rest of the picture to come; and fortunately, all that built up anticipation was not for nothing. There’s plenty more to the picture than just an awesome opener, although I suppose the ready detractors and haters of the franchise will be far too blind to see that. No matter, the film was made for gorehounds and genre fans, by gorehounds and genre fans; so if you’re in the crowd that it’s aiming to please, you most likely will not leave the movie disappointed or even the slightest bit let down. If you’re like me and you have certain expectations whenever you go into a movie that’s either like this or within the same franchise; a smile will take no time to grace your silly face.
It’s an ancient, long-running tradition of the “Final Destination” films to also start out rather strong with a provocative and completely over-the-top opening sequence; and it would seem that all but the fourth entry – hilariously dubbed “THE Final Destination” – are completely capable of delivering the insane and gruesome goods. The fifth installment in the franchise starts off with a very well-done bridge collapse scene; in which the same old formula of one character – the hero (Nicholas D’Agosto) – predicting the possible outcome of the tragic incident. The hero is on a bus with his co-workers, on their way someplace, although they never get there, so who cares where it was? Anyways, yeah; the bridge successfully collapses, just like in the deadly premonition, although the hero is able to save his friends and acquaintances from their gory deaths.
But we know how the story goes from there; and it almost seems like “Final Destination 5″ knows it. One by one, the inanimate and un-seeable force known as Death picks off the survivors one by one; with Tony Todd always lurking nearby the crime scene to look creepy and ultimately pick up the mess. And of course, the hero will be one of the last ones standing; if not THE last one standing overall. But you know…when it comes to these formula plots; I’m not bothered, it’s a good formula for a movie like this. It’s not the sort of movie that you can call high art, or even good cinema; but good entertainment it is, and it certainly provokes the popping of the popcorn.
As usual, I came here for the gory deaths. These are often elaborate, colorful, and even laugh-out-loud funny; there’s a tongue-in-cheek aura to the stylization of such scenes, and it makes them all the more fun to watch, in spite of all the blood spilled (and believe me, for this installment especially, that’s a lot of blood). Take for example a scene where an arrogant chubby bastard goes to a massage parlor and partakes in an acupuncture session; left alone there with needles in all parts of his body, with Death lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce in the form of nasty coincidence. In this case, the fat-ass falls off from his table and onto the needles that pierce his very flesh onto the gasoline-drenched floor below him. The room catches fire (obviously), but in the end, it’s a statue of Buddha that means goodnight for the fat man.
I mention this scene, among others, because it’s most definitely an instant favorite as far as the deaths in this series – which is all about the deaths and the kills and the gory goodness of it all – go. There are a few other really good ones, like the demise of a young beauty (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) by way of laser eye surgery, and a gymnastics session that goes horribly, horribly wrong. I could go on and on about all the scenes that I liked; but I live in constant fear of spoiling too much in my reviews, so as far as those little details (that could potentially spoil the movie for all who consider themselves a curious party) go, I’ll stop right there. But I’m not (quite) done yet.
“Final Destination 5″ gives you exactly what you want and expect from a film of its kind; it’s bloody, it’s messy (it attempts to blend the good ol’ camp of the other films and the taut suspense of the first), and it’s highly entertaining in a stupid, guilty pleasure sort of way. If you’re looking for good acting or even good storytelling (truly, the only twist on the general idea of the series that’s presented here is the ability to sacrifice someone else’s life for your own), then you might want to look elsewhere; but I admire the work done by director Steven Quale, who makes damn good use of 3D technology. This is a well-filmed, thrilling, suspenseful, and absolutely balls-out gruesome piece of work; and it won’t appeal to all audiences, but it’s a very solid night at the movies. It is what it is; a sleazy exploitation of pop-out gore effects, hot (but clothed) women, and classic horror clichÃ
*Warning*
A little spoilers ahead
In Final Destination 5, a group of workers survive a deadly accident when Sam
(Dâe~Agosto) has a premonition of the bridge collapsing before it actually happens.
But they soon realize, they can never cheat death.
The film this time, surprising starts out with a trippy, yet homage to all the films in a simple way (Similar to what David R. Ellis did in the 4th) and still was entertaining with orchestra & rock mixed together. A real intense feeling you get, which reflects on the film itself.
We get to know all the characters attitudes and feelings in the introduction. The prep (Fisher) The Bad ass (Wood) The gymnastic (wroe) The Comedian (Koechner) The seductive (Byrne) The defender (Escarpeta) the heartbreaker (Bell) & of course, The ONE (Dâe(TM)Agosto)
Lets start with the Bridge scene. We have Steve Quale, the guy who helped James Cameron with Avatar, creates something breath taking and so intense that it could beat FD2âe(TM)s Infamous car pile up. The visual effects are impressive as ever and the clever deathâe(TM)s are as GIRL AT A JUSTIN BEIBER CONCERT fun as they can be!
When we come to the death scenes. We are brought with most intense Final Destination deaths as ever, including Ellen Wroeâe(TM)s gymnastic death + the most gut wrenching (in 3D) Jacqueline M. Woodâe(TM)s eye lazier surgery gone wrong, itâe(TM)s hard to not love this movie. Until we get towards the climax. Things start to become slow, and we are taken a twist that we never really seen towards any of the other films as the concept âeoeKill or be killedâe comes into place. I wouldnâe(TM)t say it didnâe(TM)t work. But I wouldnâe(TM)t say it was handled well. Also another twist comes into place as something else âeoeDifferentâe to the franchise too. Which worked well, but rather a predictable setting. Well, isnâe(TM)t this what the FD series is all about?
The acting. Donâe(TM)t get me started on the acting here. We get a mixed batch. Here we have these talented actors like David Koechner who is F*cking hilarious, and Tony Todd who is still creepy as hell. (Donâe(TM)t forget P.J Byrneâe(TM)s character who is a funny slap stick guy that is.. wellâe
It is what it is. A slice ‘em n’ dice ‘em copout for the inevitable audience to devour. Just because a movie is better than its quad-entry doesn’t give it a free pass. The carnage is thrown at us but we never take it all in. In other words, it’s just not very fun.
Another fantastic Final Destination! This one had a wicked ending!
MAKES UP FOR 4! This is back to what a Final Destination film should be! It has some story problems and the characters aren’t very deep. But its fun. And the gymnastics scene is one of my favorite Final Destination deaths ever! Its a great suspenseful scene. This movie if full of great kills and are some of the best of the series. Skip, burn, and send The Final Destination to hell, THIS MOVIE can hold up to the series.
