Of COURSE this movie is supposed to be terrible, that is the whole point! The review of this movies is incredibly in accurate Trashploitation to it’s very finest. Don’t go into this expecting Oscar caliber performances kids. With a movie like this, you expect blood and guts, cheesy one liners and over the top everything, which this movie delivers in spades. Great fun.

It’s mind boggling how many reviewers completely miss the point. And on a site like this it’s particularly disappointing. What the fuck were you expecting!?

I gotta agree with NemesisBC, this movie rocks!

I wholeheartedly agree with Gunde and NemesisBC, this movie kicks ass, and kicks hard. I am too disappointed in you guys. This was the best movie the director could make. Even if it wasn’t, I was still satisfied 120% and watched the movie twice in a row. That’s how much I loved it!

The biggest shock if this year is how B-D gave Hobo a measly two star rating, and gave a crapfest like Incidious four stars. The ball has been dropped here, folks.

Although more action than horror, Hobo delivers one hell of a good time. This is a great film and lieu of Peter Jackson’s Bad Taste, it’s a campy feast of the the most delicious eye candy!

Hobo will quickly gain the covenant cult classic status and will be remembered and praised long after Incidious is lost and forgotten.

Ryan Daley, what where you expecting? This delivers on all levels if you’re going in expecting what you should expect. This movie is like a Troma homage of some sorts. The vibe is silly yet grisly and Rutger Hauer is extremely compelling as the titular hobo. Memorable (and downright BADASS) one-liners abound throughout the entire movie.

The movie also features some of the most evil bad guys in recent memory. The gore is plentiful, well made and at times, jaw droppingly brutal. This is not a goddamned cash-in of an ‘extremely popular fake trailer’, it’s a love letter to trashploitation cinema. Vulgar, pulpy as fuck, outrageous… DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!

One of the tastiest piece of trash ever comitted to celluloid and shown on a big screen.

Ryan Daley is absolutely wrong with his review. Hobo With A Shotgun is exactly the type of movie you’d expect with the title Hobo With A Shot Gun. It’s ridiculous on all fronts as it should be. If you’re a fan of over the top insanity then you’ll enjoy this.

Very disappointed in you BD for snubbing what is a great Grindhouse flick. Wheres Mr D’s review??

For those who havent seen it, it delivers on all measures – its a real nihilistic thrill ride into violent depravity. Real great fun, I was grinning the whole way through it.

Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Totally siding with Ryan on this one sadly. Hobo with a shotgun missed the mark. Obviously it’s supposed to be “so bad it’s good,” but the film got too caught up in forcing itself to reach this level, and settled somewhere around just bad. Then add atrocious writing? Again, the vulgarity just seemed fake and forced, trying to be so badly good it just flat out was bad. There were practically no memorable one liners, or dialogue for that matter. As for the violence, I wasn’t totally let down. Hobo had its splatter house moments that kept me content, but honestly, it could have had a ton more. I feel like the action lacked a lot of creativity (minus a scene or two), which is what the grindhouse genre is all about. Hobo With A Shotgun was exactly what it was trying to be: cheesy writing, overplayed acting, and buckets of gore. Except for the fact that it didn’t have any cohesion to make them all come together. I wanted Hobo to be so much better, not eye rollingly hammed up.

I’ve been wanting to see this movie for a long time, and I finally watched it with some friends, and all I have to say is…wow! This movie was so incredibly and insanely violent. People lose their heads, get ripped open with a baseball bat covered in razor blades, and get shot to death by an ass-kicking hobo. This movie based on the trailer from Grindhouse has more action than Machete. If you are easily offended by children being burned alive or being watched by a pedophile Santa Claus, you should stay away. This was a fun movie to watch, and all the gore scenes are hilarious and epic.

Rutger Hauer stars as a Hobo who comes to a new town, overrun with corruption. He befriends a hooker named Abby. While a Pawn shop is getting robbed, the Hobo can’t take it anymore and decides to shoot the robbers down with a shotgun. He becomes a vigilante and goes around shooting anybody involved with crime. Never ever cross a HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN!!!

Magnet releasing has picked up another oddball here in the form of Hobo with a shotgun. There was a bit of hype boiling around the film and now it’s released. You’d expect some funny one-liners, alot of gore and some memorable moments and characters. You get the gore for sure, but all other elements are no where to be found. It could’ve been really fun. Instead you get 80 minutes of continues yelling and crazy camera movements. It’s a pretty terrible, mess of a film. I understand that that is the point. Bit it’s supposed to be a fun mess of a film, not an annoying one. There’s nothing to recommend it for.

The BD review has this spot on, loved Rutger, hated everything else- just watch 70s exploitation, not many of these new throw back ‘grindhouse’ flicks really work and this is a particularly poor example- the first scene with the guy in a man hole was a great set up, got me excited for a min, then by the time i had sat threw what felt like 10 mins of shity dialog and bad acting (although I agree intentional) by the time the terrible gory effects (probably intentional) came around I found my self drifting… 20 mins in I was surfing the net while watching- just dont bother!

I have to disagree with both Ryan Daley and Accident with power tools as it seems that both of you in fact of suffered the fate of actually being hit by power tools to come up with these lame ass reviews. Hobo with a shotgun is a fun film that gets the adrenaline going and the heart pounding, I’ve never had so much fun watching a movie in a long time. This is a man’s film and you don’t see that anymore in horror or action films, No in today’s films were are stuck seeing women acting like men and always surviving, guy films have changed but yet chick flicks haven’t. This is a true guy flick. It looks like you two are out numbered as well, all the reviews coming in have been positive for this film. This is coming from an actual filmmaker not that of an arm chair critic who obviously did really see this film, pathetic.

*derp* This is basically a Troma movie, with the intention of being as Tromatastic as possible. Maybe thats why people didn’t get it. If you don’t like Troma flicks you won’t dig this movie. The script was great too- taking plot points from the Dark Knight like by making the town turn on the Hobo. Had a lot of fun with this one. Great, Great movie.

This is one of the most bat shit crazy movies you’ll ever see. It’s basically a Troma film not made by Troma. The blood and gore is outrageous, the script is filled with sleaze and hilarious one liners and then there’s Rutger Hauer. Don’t try and take this film seriously at all. Just relax, go with it and have a great time.

    OHMIGOD! OHMIGOD! OHMIGOD!

So, my faith in Canadian made movies has been revived by Jason Eisener’s Hobo With A Shotgun!
I have not watched a horror movie proudly made in Canada, with the exceptions of the original Prom Night(1980), My Bloody Valentine(1981) and Black Christmas(1974), all filmed over 30 years ago! But HOBO has made me a proud Hoosier, once again!
I loved every minute of this flick. The story, the characters, the actors, the effects; it all added up to an unforgettable movie going experience!

Not going to lie, as a huge gore fan, I watched some of this movie through my fingers. Old school effects were in full force. It was a complete bloodbath! The first decapitation shocked and awed me in the first 20 minutes!! It was an assault of non-stop action, laughs and gunshots in each of Hobo’s glorious 86 minutes!

Now let’s get down to the nitty gritty. Hobo With a Shotgun is about … you guessed it, a hobo with a shotgun. Rutger Hauer, plays the homeless man who has has been privy to one too many obscene criminal acts on his streets. Keep the coins, this hobo wants change.

This poor guy is just chasing the dream of a fresh start for himself. All he wants is to buy a lawnmower so he make a bit of cash the good ol’ fashioned way, but unfortunately for him, life’s not that easy. Needless to say, making living the honest way doesn’t fly in Scumtown, which is under the rule of a sadistic family, led by daddy, Drake and his two sicko sons, Ivan and Slick.

The Drake and Sons trio get a kick out of torturing the general population of their little town in the most gruesome ways possible! Ivan and Slick, are trying to follow in their psychopathic father’s footsteps and make daddy proud by outdoing his already unbelievable extra curricular activities, with superbly bloody scenes.

The characters were so over the top in this movie, they really did make it a winner.
A honorable mention goes out to the small yet AMAZING part of “the Plague”. The bounty hunters from hell who are charged with the duty of apprehending the Hobo when he proves to be a thorn in the side of the Drake. The demonic duo had me chilled to the bone and yet cheering for more!

Hobo With a Shotgun was epic on so many levels. It is like watching a 80′s Action/Horror B-movie in all it’s cheesy glory but with a heartfelt message somewhere in between the pedophile Santa’s and burning school buses.

I would definitely recommend this flick to anyone who enjoys the Grindhouse movies and general gore flicks. I walked out of the theater with 8 friends, 7 out of 8 loved it, the other was nauseous and absolutely hated it, he of course, is a pussy and shouldn’t have been there anyway. Point of my review, go see it and remember… it’s 100% Canadian made.

    Happy Hunting Hobos.

This is just a fun flick right here. Lots of gore and crazy mayhem ensues. Rutger Hauer’s performance is just amazing… he was born for this role.

In fact, his acting is so good that I had to knock a half a skull off of the total score because there is so much missed potential in this movie. Although I love the product they delivered, I can’t help but think of the impact this movie could have made as a more serious / less goofy movie with small spurts of black comedy. His monologue to the babies towards the end is epic. Must see.

Wow BD! Thats pretty harsh isn’t it? Two Skulls? See, what people don’t get is this movie is supposed to be trashy and insane. Its definitely not for everybody, but if you can handle it, its a really good time. To make a long story short this movie is pure mayhem! Rutger Hauer is as awesome as ever, its weird seeing him as the good guy cause he always plays bad ones most of the time, but he did great. Not much of a story but who cares, here it is in a nutshell, Hobo with a Shotgun VS. The Drake, thats all you need to know. At least somebody has the balls to make a real no holds barred splatter fest, thats what the horror genre needs, people that will push the envelope and not play it safe. If your a gorehound like myself, I urge you to watch this film at least once.

What a stupid, stupid movie. Tries to ape a shitty 1980′s Troma movie and falls flat on it’s ass. I understand this won some sort of contest where the film-makers come up with a trailer a’la Grindhouse’s Machete and Werewolf Women of the SS. Great title but terrible execution. You’d be better off renting a vintage 80′s direct to video exploitation flick. The real deal not this artless concept movie. See Machete for a film of this ilk that actually works…barely. Yeah it’s got lots of gore, but it’s of the Herschell Gordon Lewis variety. Terrible

I’m usually repulsed by movies that are amongst some of the most violent I’ve seen. But that’s because most of them are misogynistic, racist, or whatever-else, in their violence. “Hobo With a Shotgun” is one of those movies (that ranks amongst one of the most violent I’ve seen), but at the same time, it is different than most of the other films that would make the cut. Unlike the rest of them, it’s not violent to induce fear or helplessness; it is violent for humorous reasons. But also, maybe, to sicken us…I wasn’t too sure.

That right there is the film’s only real flaw. Sometimes, it doesn’t make it too obvious that we’re supposed to be laughing. Consider the scene where a villainous character unleashes a flame-thrower on a school-bus filled with helpless, screaming children. It’s hard to laugh at things like that, but otherwise; “Hobo With a Shotgun” is pretty darn funny and pretty darn awesome, in a guilty pleasure sort of way. I enjoyed it as much as I could, and cringed whenever possible. It was disgusting, vile, sick, and you know what; I freaking ate it up as if it were Alphabet Soup.

A homeless man (Rutger Hauer) enters a big city in hopes of starting his life out new. He arrives and discovers that the place has been riddled with junkies and violence. I’m sure we realize this pretty quickly too; especially when the local “top criminals” heartlessly decapitate a man by placing him in a pothole, placing a barb-wire noose around his neck, and putting the pedal to the metal.

The hobo resumes going through his daily life; looking at people, looking inside stores at stuff he can’t afford, such as a lawnmower, which costs the fifty bucks that he just doesn’t have. But he tries to save up as much as he can. When he finally does, he goes into the store, only to be at the scene of an attempted robbery. He then plays hero; and instead purchases a shotgun, which he uses to shoot the living hell out of the robbers, as well as anyone else who dares shoot dope, kill the innocent, or humiliate the homeless. The hobo also tries to save a young prostitute (Molly Dunsworth), a woman who the hobo believes might have a future, as she is a potential dreamer.

But of course, the hobo can only go around shooting pedophile Santas, druggies, and criminals for so long. The man who “runs the (crime) show”, Drake, has his eye on the hobo after his deeds inspire some city-folk. And he’s bound to take down the homeless rebel in any way he can.

The bad-assery doesn’t take too long to start. The film is a bloody mess, but a beautiful (if not lovably dumb) one. This film is the very definition of insane. It can be anything but morally redeemable at times, but heck, it’s a fun ride even with those sickeningly brutal scenarios. It’s not necessarily funny to watch high-class criminals bash people’s heads between two bumper-cars, but it’s very, very fun to watch them get their just deserts afterwards. Also, the best scene in the film is, without a doubt, the one where the prostitute character’s arm is cut off with a lawnmower. But the best part about the scene is this: she turns around soon afterwards, and stabs her attacker (or…forcer, if you will) with the bone that’s hanging out what’s left of her arm! There are things within the film that cannot be found elsewhere, because the brilliant minds behind this film go where few filmmakers have gone before. They must have visited slaughterhouses to get so much blood and gore! I mean, scene-after-scene; it’s all blood…but it’s as tasteful as it is tasteless. Say it ain’t so; but I think such a thing is very much possible.

And then there’s Hauer, the Hobo with a Shotgun. How can you not find his over-the-top, intense, bloodthirsty performance endearing? Why, you’d have to be as tasteless as this movie is! I mean, he makes for a convincing Hobo. That’s something that no man can deny.

“Hobo With a Shotgun” is likely one of the wildest rides of 2011, when it comes to film. It is shot like a bad acid trip, presented like an out-of-this-world-insane amusement park filled to the top with blood and guts, and directed with skill and passion for pure, old-fashion exploitation. The film originated from one of the fake trailers (of the same name), which was attached to the Tarantino-Rodriguez “Grindhouse” collaboration, and it shows. This movie is crazy, but endearing in its sense of sheer brutality. You’ll have a difficult time finding a movie this insane, but that’s a good thing. Not for the faint of heart, not for the child of ANY responsible parent, and not for anyone who doesn’t have a barf-bag at their side whilst watching it. My last word of advice is this: don’t eat before you watch it. Your meal might be someone else’s, or even yours, to clean up.

This was a trip to watch. Though my interest never peaked with the Grindhouse films enough for me to see them this one was set aside from that and made me interested. To be honest i didn’t really know what to expect. For me it started off slow but the chaos and carnage were quick to deliver.

For me the movie got better as it progressed and I’m sure we all have to admit that the Hospital scene was some of the coolest shit we have seen. The film isn’t supposed to be serious and i like that occasionally. The cinematography wasn’t bad and i liked the filters with the colours, it made for an awesome experience (again the hospital scene.)

This was a fun, crazy and twisted ride but i had fun all the way though it. This is a big splatterfest and I find it rather funny that horror fans complain that this film was too bloody and violent. This makes for an excellent 80′s B-movie style vision and I enjoyed this film. A good watch and even better with a some good friends. Great, funny stuff!
