I’ve been waiting for a movie like this since I was a kid. I knew this was a movie I just had to see from the first time I saw the trailer. It felt like it was a movie made just for me because I have always wanted telekinesis. This was more than I could ever ask for from a film like this. I was blown away by the visuals, sound, story, and the acting. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I love how much they fleshed out the “villain” character to tell the audience exactly why he is who he is and why he’s doing these things. The final 20 minutes blew me away. It was unbelievable what I was seeing and how happy it made me to see everything unfold. Those minutes made me feel like I was watching a bigger, badder, and darker superhero movie. I felt so bad for Andrew and I can relate so much. One of the first deaths in the film shocked me so much. I wasn’t expecting something like that to happen. It just goes to show how far somebody can go. I was emotionally attached to all the main characters and actually made me tear up at times. You know that’s when the writer, director, and actors are doing something right. I hope this movie makes it big at the box office. I’d love to see where they could go next with this story. I know it’s really early, but this is my favorite movie of the year and I believe it’ll stay that way. I loved it.

Chronicle is AWESOME. This is definitely the best superhero themed movie since Kick-Ass. The acting was great and the effects were really good. This is also one of the best (maybe the best) “found-footage” movies ever made mainly because it never feels like an “in your face/shaky cam” movie. I also really liked the fact that you get to see many points of view in the movie (different people filming in various areas/security camera footage) as opposed to just the camera owner’s point of view (Paranormal Activity/Cloverfield). This is definitely one of the best movies of 2012 so far.

Loved the action in this movie. It was a fresh take on the whole superhero thing. But by the end it seems like they’re trying to hard with the found footage thing.

When the first trailer for a mysterious little film called “Chronicle” made its debut via Youtube and the rest of the worldwide web; I was left dazed and confused upon viewing it. This appeared to be a film of ambition; in the sense that it was attempting to blend elements of both a frat comedy and a superhero origin story filled to the top with tropes and clichÃ

freaking great.. never lets up.. and andrew is a character that I felt had an actual reason to explode on screen.. sick mom, horrible dad, bullied at school.. i just loved this movie.. i wish I could fly and throw cars around..

This movie is very different and very sick. Don’t go in expecting an action pack film, nor a horror story. But a very touching story of death, power, and bullying, and how teens would react if they came across super powers. I know things felt kind of rush but think about if this was playing out all in real time and all it wouldn’t be all slow it would be bam boom fast. Actors were all awesome too. And the last 25 minutes were pretty crazy. My favorite part was the middle. I will be seeing this movie again for sure. This does for foundfootage films what cloverfeild started :) glad to see this wasn’t the same old retread. Can’t wait to see what Josh Trank does next :)

I’m so glad I was wrong about this movie. I almost didn’t see it due to the trailer. It painted the characters as self involved assholes and I just wasn’t interested in watching that. After hearing good word I went and wow. Mindblowing. SO much rich characterization, tragedy, twists and turns. Seriously I can’t reccomend this to sci fi fans enough.

Very, very good. I am extremely happy I forked over the cash to go see this, great movie going experience (aside from the women laughing [more like cackling] next to me at all of the wrong parts). I thought the characters were great, and while I am completely shot out on the found footage sub genre, the third act found a very creative way to pull it off. *MINOR SPOILER* I loved the fact that due to what was happening, the entire public was filming it, so I was not asking myself “why are they still recording” because lets be honest, who the hell wouldn’t record that sh!t.
Although most of the first half was shown in the trailers, it was still entertaining as hell (and some really funny to boot). I cannot say enough good things about this, cannot wait to see it again! JOB WELL DONE!

The most provocative and innovative super human film in years that raises the bar for the up and coming of its kind, The Dark Knight Rises better bring its A game. This one of a kind film was surprisingly emotionally deep having sympathy for even the darkest of characters because their motivations run deep and you have a deep connection with them that the experience becomes enthralling. The three newcomers were charming and gave depth to their roles and most notably from Dane DeHaan who gave a devastating and quit, intense and emotionally riveting performance as Andrew Detmer who has a broken like with his mother on her death bed and his father who got injured on the job as a firefighter is now without a job and becomes an abusive alcoholic and when he gets out of control with his new found powers all hell breaks loose. The special effects in this film was just astonishing to me and so raw with the crew not overdoing it but to focus on balanching character developement, story, thrills and suspense than over the top explotions kind of like how Super 8 did it but to me this film was more effective in its overall execution, this was visually exhilerating. This film went to pretty dark and chaotic places towards the end and amped up the violence that was shattering and a surprise in some of its turns to the dark side but when the last act proceeded and completed it just was all too fast and the film could of been way longer but I’m very happy and impressed of what I saw, they better go through with a sequel because this entertaining thrillride is far from over just please don’t leave us still waiting for years like they are still doing with Cloverfield which I’m still dying to see a sequel for. Overall this is why people go to the movies for because it has that something special, genius quality about it that reignites a genre and that you will be remembering it and rewatching it for years to come. Highly recommended. GET STARTED ON THE SEQUEL AND DON’T HAVE US WAITING FOREVER FOR IT.

I really enjoyed this movie, but I have to agree with do-nothing congress on this one. The found footage approach just got a little too outrageous at the end. And while I can appreciate Andrew’s descent as the film progressed, I just didn’t quite buy into his withdrawal from his friends. Otherwise it was a dark, fantastic approach to a superhero story!

Absolutely awesome film. Great story, great characters, filmed brilliantly. I’m sure some people will whine about the special effects not being the greatest, but working with a less-than-Avatar budget, they were well done, and actually fit the whole atmosphere of the film very well. Another issue I’m sure some people have is how they managed to keep the found footage aspect in the climactic battle, but frankly, I think it was a genious move. Chronicle is sure to remain among the best films to come out this year.

This movie got better as it went along. Even though I am not a fan of the “documentary” style of filming I thought the way they ended up filming it really worked out well. Without giving too much away I will say that the entire movie gave me a very strong vibe of a male version of Carrie also while during one of the major battle scenes I couldn’t help think of Superman 2.

I liked this movie mainly because it seems real. If you and a couple of friends could do what these guys can, you would do probably something very similar to that. In the case of being emotionally unstable and bullied, I would suppose this would be the result as well.
I could not stop myself to compare the story with Carrie, because the parallel is very clear. Carrie is much darker, probably because she was all by herself and never had fun with her powers, but the results were the same. It makes clear that it is a damn good thing bullied kids don’t have superpowers!
I liked the found-footage style in the beginning, but I would prefer it to have been put aside in the climax. They try to stick to that point of view, when it clearly can’t be true in certain scenes.

Official Score: 3.5 / 5
