Stitches (2012)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2126362/?ref_=sr_1
Scale of Horror 1 to 10
Gore: 9
Scary: 5 (Clowns are Freaky)
Comedy: 6
Movie overall: 6 outta 10
Clowns, teen party, gore galore and a few laughs. That pretty much sums up Stitches. I would definitely categorize this one as a teen scream, it still gets major points for originality and the gore is not just disgusting, its also funny. But seriously, its extremely gory, like jaw dropping, stomach turning gory. For example, there is a scene where a clown rips of a student’s genitals, ties it to a balloon and lets it float away… Enough said. So I’ll give a warning for the gore and an FYI for Irish accents. I think that most will enjoy this movie knowing ahead of time that it’s a gory teen slasher comedy. Overall its pretty goofy and gory.

This movie isn’t scary and it’s not supposed to be. It’s pure fun and everyone obviously had fun making it. Awesome gore, awesome kills, and funny as hell. I was having too much fun watching it to remember anything to criticize. One of my favorite movies of 2012 and WAY better than Cabin in the woods. If you liked Hatchet, you will love this! And if you love this then make sure you check out the movie Adam Chaplin.
To sum it up: “Stitches” is a pretty entertaining movie. It is dumb as f*ck, but in a smart way. so to say. The gore is unexpectedly strong, it contrasts a bit with the rather light-hearted comedy parts, but that contrast is part of the appeal. The acting ranks from great (Ross Noble as “Stitches”) to good (the teens).
Furthermore is it a slasher movie with a bunch of rather likeable leads for a change. I also love the goofy topicality of the killer: Stitches serves every clown cliche you can think of and perverts it into another creative gruesomeness.
Last thoughts: You could compare “Stitches” to a good punk rock song: Cheap, but creative, tough in parts, but still light-hearted and short but entertaining. PS: The soundtrack is very good too.

I really enjoyed this movie. It’s a funny non stop splatter fest. Good actors and good story. I really look forward to the sequel. It is destined to be a cult classic. I definitely recommend it!
