Time heals all things. For me, this rings especially true of film criticism and the public’s assessment of a film’s quality. When John Carpenter’s The Thing was released in 1982, it was rejected by audiences and critics alike. Meanwhile, MGM’s remake of The Amityville Horror grossed well over $100M worldwide upon its release in 2005. Who has even seen that movie in the past 7 years? READ MORE
We have heard your cries! MANY of you felt that the The Ultimate Horror Challenge wasn’t comprehensive enough! So we included an additional 20 films that round it out a bit more. Many of these are from your suggestions! But this still isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. And it still doesn’t contain every major work of every horror auteur (there’s still no John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). READ MORE

Sony Home Entertainment is lucky I didn’t review this film because I would have given it a zero, but if you click here you can read BC’s barely kind review for April Fool’s Day, the bland remake from Stage 6 Films. “All in all, there is absolutely no reason anyone should watch this movie. The “unrated” label means absolutely nothing – this film is BARELY worthy of a PG-13 (hell, they probably got a PG from the MPAA and were embarrassed by it), there is no actual gore or nudity, the twist is obvious (though to be fair they add a little extra bit of business to it, however it’s of no real consequence), the characters suck…” Click the link for the rest. One remake I’m very intrigued about is the Butcher Brothers’ April Fool’s Day, which is currently lensing in North Carolina. The originally, which is an awesome ’80s flick, is still one of the worst cop-out endings of all time. So the question remains, what will this duo to bring something fresh to an otherwise tainted original? I guess we’ll find out next year as Sony’s Stage 6 Films will distribute the film. Read on for the story and the full casting news. (more…) READ MORE
Bloody-Disgusting was tipped off and confirmed that Beau Garrett (Unearthed, Turistas) is IN TALKS for a role in The Butcher Brothers’ remake of April Fool’s Day, which will be released by Columbia TriStar sometime next year. We will let you now the second we hear it’s official. We broke the news (here) that Halloween star, Scout Taylor-Compton, will star in the film. When Muffy decides to invite her drama club to her isolated house for a “killer” weekend, nobody would of expected it to be taken so literally. Now the guest list is being trimmed and suspicions turn on each other. (more…) READ MORE
Bloody-Disgusting learned exclusively this afternoon that Scout Taylor-Compton will be playing the lead role in the Butcher Brothers remake of April Fool’s Day, which she calls “Mean Girls crossed with horror.” Scout also tell us the plan is to make the film rated R. She can be seen in Rob Zombie’s remake of Halloween on August 31 from Dimension Films. In the original a group of eight college friends gather together at an island mansion belonging to heiress Muffy St. John to celebrate their final year of school. They soon discover that each has a hidden secret from their past which is revealed, and soon after, they turn up dead. Yet, are they really dead? Or is it just part of some very real and cruel April Fool’s jokes? The hostess, Muffy, is the only one who apparently knows what’s going on. But then again, is it really her doing the killing?
