This movie was all over the place. Characters seemed to slip into other personas for no apparent reason, and are generally unlikable (aside from the protagonist, kinda sorta). There is very little gore. The concept of the “smiley” conjuring could have been handled a lot better. The only reason I’m not giving this a big fat goose egg is that, for me, the jump scares worked pretty well… especially considering that I watched this on my tiny phone screen at 35,000 feet. Or maybe it was the $6 airline gin and tonics coupled with rarified cabin oxygen. Oh, and I think that Caitlin is kind of hot!
This movie is god awful. This is one of the worst horror movies I have seen in awhile. The plot has such promise and the killer is cool looking but this whole film is a mess. The dialogue and writing and the acting are the worst things about this film. It really is bad and all of the characters are annoying, assholes, and really weird. There is little to know gore and the ending is so stupid. Stay far away from this and really don’t bother.
As I started watching the movie Smiley, I started to think it was going to be a fun new slasher. It had cool premise and creepy killer, idiot youngsters, etc. As the film progressed, the acting became more atrocious, I wanted to kill the main girl, and the cheap scares became so annoying. I still wanted to keep some hope up because I loved the premise so much. My hopes were becoming shot…until the ending. I loved the ending. It was so fricken mean spirited I couldn’t help but love it. And the last twist of the movie was satisfying. So despite the bad acting, lame main girl, and cheap scares, I thought the story was fun and the ending was a savior (at least for me). There is a scene at the end of the credits that I was satisfied with, but I could have lived without it too.
Can you say HOT MESS? I hate writing bad reviews because I think people who make horror movies are awesome, but this one was just painfully bad. The main actress was just horrible and the script was unintentionally funny due to it just being awful. It’s tragic because the killer’s face was really scary and the idea of being killed on the internet could have been interesting, but sadly, the story was executed poorly. I would definitely pass on this one unless you and a group of friends like to get together to watch really bad movies.
My Rating: 3 out of 10 (Only cause the killer’s mask was super creepy!)

While the mask was suitably disturbing, the low production values really hamper the movie.
