The Ritual of Chüd and the Novel’s Weirder Elements Will Play a Role in ‘IT: Chapter Two’

With filming close to wrapped on Andy Muschietti’s IT: Chapter Two, writer Gary Dauberman has been spilling some beans about the sequel in various interviews, recently teasing that the ending may break our hearts while also noting that the Chinese restaurant reunion scene is included. Next year’s film will also be delving into the novel’s more bizarre aspects.

Speaking with Cinema Blend, Dauberman talked The Ritual of Chüd.

The Ritual of Chüd is challenging, but it’s such an important component to the book that we had to address it,” he told the site. “That stuff is difficult to balance, but because [director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and I] worked with each other before, when I’m writing pages and all that stuff it becomes more of a conversation and less like, ‘Hey, here’s what I did.’ It’s sort of organic; it’s really kind of just chipping away at the stone and trying to find the most focused, accessible way into some of more metaphysical aspects of that book.”

The writer added, “Andy would kind of go off and think about Chüd and how he wants to visually represent all that stuff. He just came up with some brilliant, brilliant stuff… It really is going to be amazing.

So what the hell even is The Ritual of Chüd, you ask? Long story short, it’s a physical battle of the wills between the Losers’ and IT, explained in further detail by the video below…

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
