THE UNBORN

Summer is officially here, which means the clouds have parted and nobody but us dedicated horror fans are thinking about horror – at least until The Conjuring 2 comes out.

It’s going to be nearly 100 days before Netflix starts ramping up their genre selection, but until then here’s the handful that will be streaming in the month of June.

June 1

The Fear of 13 (2015)

Directed by David Sington.

A Death Row inmate petitions the court asking to be executed. As he goes on to tell his story, it gradually becomes clear that nothing is quite what it seems. THE FEAR OF 13 is a stylistically daring experiment in storytelling that is part confessional and part performance, Nick, the sole protagonist, tells a tale with all the twists and turns of classic crime drama. A final shocking twist casts everything in a new light.

Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001)

In Jurassic Park, genetically engineered dinosaurs run amok at a tycoon’s island amusement park. Directed by Steven Spielberg, it’s based on Michael Crichton’s novel.

In The Lost World, a research team is sent to the Jurassic Park Site B island to study the dinosaurs there while another team approaches with another agenda.

In the third film, adventure runs wild when renowned paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) agrees to accompany a wealthy adventurer (William H. Macy) and his wife (Téa Leoni) on an aerial tour of Isla Sorna, InGen’s former breeding ground for prehistoric creatures.

June 6

Dark Web (2015)

Directed by Bruno Vaussenat and starring Petra Silander, Olivier Gruner, and Kendra Waldman.

A mysterious group has created a sadistic venture. Kidnapping young women, they auction the rights to hunt them to millionaires with a thirst for blood – and broadcast the hunt on the dark web for the world to see.

June 16

The Unborn (2009)

Directed by David S. Goyer and starring Odette Annable, Gary Oldman, and Cam Gigandet.

In the film, a young woman fights the spirit that is slowly taking possession of her.

June 22

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)

Directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez.

Starring Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, and Josh Brolin, some of Sin City’s most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with a few of its more reviled inhabitants.

Horror movie fanatic who co-founded Bloody Disgusting in 2001. Producer on Southbound, V/H/S/2/3/94, SiREN, Under the Bed, and A Horrible Way to Die. Chicago-based. Horror, pizza and basketball connoisseur. Taco Bell daily. Franchise favs: Hellraiser, Child's Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Scream and Friday the 13th. Horror 365 days a year.
