‘Happy Death Day’ Heads Home in January With Alternate Ending

Published

on

One of this year’s most fun horror movies was Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day, a creative spin on the slasher film that saw a young woman reliving the day of her death every single day, tasked with solving her own murder before she’s finally killed for real. If you missed it in theaters, you’ll be able to buy it on Blu-ray real soon.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release Happy Death Day on Digital in 4K Ultra HD and standard definition as well as via the digital movie app MOVIES ANYWHERE on January 2, 2018 and on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand January 16, 2018.

Bonus features, exclusive to Blu-ray, DVD & Digital, include:

  • Alternate Ending
  • Deleted Scenes
    • Cupcakes & Killers
    • You’ve Killed Me!
    • Tree’s Final Walk of Shame
  • Worst Birthday Ever – Filmmakers and cast discuss the challenges of executing the time-loop concept at the center of the film, including how to make each day feel different despite the fact it’s being repeated.
  • Behind the Mask: The Suspects – At the heart of any great murder mystery is a list of possible suspects. In this featurette, we explore all the possible identities of Tree’s killer.
  • The Many Deaths of Tree – Director Christopher Landon, star Lena Rothe, and producer Jason Blum recap the various ways in which Tree is killed, but also explain why we never actually see her die.

Blumhouse (SplitGet Out, The Purge) produces this original and inventive rewinding thriller in which a blissfully self-centered co-ed Tree (Jessica RotheLa La Land) is doomed to relive the day of her murder unless she can identify her masked assailant and hopefully stop the madness. If she can’t, she will be stuck in an insane loop, reliving a ghoulish nightmare that has become her death day. The thrills continue with an alternate ending never-before-seen in theaters.

Happy Death Day is directed by Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) and written by Scott LobdellIsrael Broussard (Fear the Walking Dead) and Ruby Modine (Shameless) also star in this seemingly unsolvable mystery that will keep you guessing over and over again.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

With fiendish followers invading suburbia, it’s now up to the kids to discover the secret that can lock The Gate forever . . . if it’s not too late.
