First Look: ‘The Town That Dreaded Sundown’ Remake!
The Blumhouse remake of The Town That Dreaded Sundown is premiering at the BFI London Film Festival on October 18th and 14th, we’ve learned thanks to Bloody reader ‘Alexander B.’
In addition, we’ve landed the first two images from the Alfonso Gomez-Rejon-directed reboot starring Addison Timlin, Gary Cole and Spencer Treat Clark.
“65 years after a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana, the so-called ‘moonlight murders’ begin again. Is it a copycat or something even more sinister? A lonely high school girl, with dark secrets of her own, may be the key to catching him.”

Drawing inspiration from the 1976 classic of the same name, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s striking debut is not so much a remake as it is a shrewd reinvention, resulting in a genuinely innovative and unexpected meta-horror experience. Set in a world in which the original film exists and is very much part of popular consciousness, this update sees the quiet streets of Texerkana plagued by a maniac who bears striking resemblance to the same Phantom Killer who wreaked havoc on the town decades before. Is history repeating itself? Or has somebody just seen the original film too many times? Perhaps the key to the mystery lies with a young high school girl Jami, who must uncover the truth if she wants to survive the carnage. Meticulously styled with an unmistakable 1970s genre vibe, but with an ultra-modern twist, this is that rare beast; a horror reboot that actually feels like it has been made with horror fans in mind.

We have an exclusive first look at A Man in the Woods With an Axe, a blood-soaked, genre-twisting homage to 1980s slasher films.
Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.
Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.
“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”
Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.
From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
