‘Black Fly’ Fictionalizes Serial Killer Noel Winters
Shoreline Entertainment has acquired rights to backwoods thriller, Black Fly, and will introduce to international buyers at the EFM, says ScreenDaily.
Jason Bourque makes his feature directorial debut on Black Fly, which fictionalizes the story of serial killer Noel Winters. The film tells the story through the eyes of Winters’ estranged younger brother.
The film is inspired by Bourque’s experiences growing up next to a serial killer in rural New Brunswick.

Jake and Noel Henson are two estranged brothers haunted by a troubled past. Their father died in a hunting accident, their mother committed suicide and over the years they lost touch. After escaping from his abusive uncle, Jake seeks refuge with Noel who now lives with his girlfriend Paula in the old family farmhouse. Located on an isolated island, it’s the perfect place to find solace and re-connect after years of separation. Or so Jake thinks…
Soon after his arrival, Jake realizes his older brother has become a hard drinker with an explosive temper. A short fuse of paranoia and abuse has been ignited in the farmhouse and the days unfold with creeping unease.
It’s family versus morality as Noel’s psychopathic tendencies propel them all into a nail-biting nightmare. For Jake, he must question “the ties that bind”. Will he be strong enough to stop his brother’s terrifying rampage?

Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.
Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.
“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”
Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.
From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
