It’s been just over a year since the Hamburg, Germany-based developer StrixLab announced Ad Infinitum, a promising student project the studio is turning into an Unreal 4-powered single-player horror game set in the trenches of World War I. The team of eight is working to complete a demo build for a closed alpha they hope to launch on PC in the next couple weeks. A PS4 and Xbox One version of the game are also planned, but neither have been confirmed.
Ad Infinitum has a lot in common with another student project called 1916: Der Unbekannte Krieg — you can play it here — with its focus on exploration and stealth over combat set inside a labyrinthine series of WWI-era trenches populated by “vicious creatures.” And while it is a first-person game, it is not a shooter. Apparently, it won’t feature a single gun.
