Today Pamela Mullin over at Vertigo comics released a press release detailing plans for a slick and downright cool looking variant cover for Scott Snyder and Stephen King’s new vampire-western monthly “AMERICAN VAMPIRE”, to be released on March 17th. The hotly anticipated new series from the horror legend and his past collaborator Snyder, marks Kings first fully original monthly comic book series that tells the story of the first American vampire set against the old west. Read on for the preview of the first issue as well as the full press release on the variant cover by newly appointed DC head Jim Lee!

Here’s what the press release had to say,

‘Today, I’m ecstatic to reveal the variant cover of AMERICAN VAMPIRE #1 . Not only is the story going to keep you captivated, so are all the covers. This is the first variant as the next 4 issues will also have variant covers by some of the top names in the industry.

I asked Jim Lee about working on the cover of this amazing new series and here’s what he had to say:

“One of the unique challenges of contributing a cover to a brand spanking new series with original, never seen before characters is obviously not knowing who the characters are: how they act, the way they hold themselves, the forces that shaped their personal histories. Luckily for me, American Vampire’s artist-Rafael Albuquerque-made it a non-issue. From just a single illustration, I could see the world he was creating, and it made drawing Pearl and Skinner for this alternate cover both a breeze and a hella lot of fun. The drawings are that good.

The fact there are words to accompany the pictures is pure gravy. Speaking as a fan, I can’t wait to read what Scott Snyder and Stephen King have come up with. They have a lot to live up to :)” –Jim Lee’

When asked about the cover here’s what Stephen King had to say.

“That’s one of the best comic mag covers I’ve seen since the days of my misspent youth, when I haunted the newsstands in Brunswick, Maine each month for the new Creepy or Eerie. Kudos to Mr. Lee.” –Stephen King

Aliens vs Avengers

Well, it’s finally happening. It was only a matter of time before Disney-owned Marvel characters and the Disney-owned Xenomorphs came together for an epic mashup, and Entertainment Weekly has announced this morning that Aliens vs. Avengers is coming soon!

The upcoming series from Marvel Comics comes courtesy of writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic, and Entertainment Weekly has shared cover art and details today.

Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel Comics…

“It’s all led to this: Xenomorphs reach Earth! The perfect organism meets a planet of superhumans. Who will be first to fall?”

“I’ve never worked on a licensed or ‘non-superhero’ property the entire time I’ve been at Marvel, so when all of this came together almost two years ago, I kind of jumped at the opportunity,” Jonathan Hickman tells EW. “I love the Aliens universe and the mythology, and obviously just how atmospherically and well-designed everything is has always gotten my creative juices flowing. It was tricky finding a way to make these two things work together, but I think Esad and I landed on something that works for fans of both franchises.”

“Probably one of the coolest things about the project is how we’ve found really fun ways to ‘Avengerize’ Aliens and ‘alien-up’ Avengers,” Hickman continues. “I think fans will be surprised at how elegantly some of those things fit together. It really turned out to be a chocolate-and-peanut-butter situation.”

Aliens vs. Avengers #1 will be hitting comic book shelves on July 24, 2024.

Check out the issue’s official cover art below, which features Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Captain America… and a Xenomorph! Note the clever twist on the iconic Weyland-Yutani logo…
