Joel Edgerton, pictured, is in negotiations to star in the thriller It Comes at Night, to be directed by Trey Edward Shults, writes Variety.
Edgerton will portray a man protecting his wife and son from a mysterious presence terrorizing them right outside their doorstep.
David Kaplan is producing the film with A24, which is also distributing.
Shults wrote and directed Krisha, which won the SXSW grand jury award for narrative feature last year.
Edgerton made his directorial debut in the tense indie The Gift, which he also wrote and co-produced. That film highlighted just how talented Edgerton is, not just as an actor, but also a filmmaker. I would have hoped to see him behind the camera again, especially on something like It Comes at Night, but maybe he’ll have a collaborative role with Shults?
